There’s the air fryer craze. And then there’s the keto craze. Combine the two, and it’s bound to be an earth-shattering pairing that everyone wants in on.

In case you need a refresher: The air fryer has been touted as the miraculous kitchen appliance that slashes fat and calories off your favorite fried foods without diminishing that greasy, crisp texture.

The keto diet is a super-popular (and super-restrictive) eating plan that calls for lots of fat and very few carbs, the goal being to keep your body in a fat-burning mode known as ketosis.

Subscribe to Men’s Health

While it may seem odd that someone on the keto diet would want to use a cooking technique that diminishes fat count—after all, the whole point of keto is to increase fats—air frying is actually a great way to enjoy traditionally-friend recipes that are high in carbohydrates, explains Dana Angelo White, R.D., author of the Healthy Air Fryer Cookbook.

For example, you can cut out the typical breadings in fried food and opt for keto-approved breadings like nuts and seeds, which also lend more nutrients to the dish.

The air fryer is also a convenient and easy appliance for keto dieters who meal prep, she adds.

Give these keto air fryer recipes a shot, and you won’t be sorry. Even if you’re not in ketosis.

1. Buffalo Chicken Bites

This 3-ingredient recipe could not be easier, and it has less than 1 gram of carbs per serving. “Just season diced boneless, skinless chicken thighs with salt and air fry at 390°F for 10 to 12 minutes. Once cooked, remove from the fryer basket and toss immediately in 2 tablespoons of your favorite hot sauce,” says White.

Dana Angelo White

2. Keto Buffalo Wings

These wings taste just like those you’d find at your favorite bar. All you need is about 1/4 cup keto-friendly hot sauce, 1 tablespoon ghee/grass-fed butter, 1 lb. chicken wings/drumettes, and a non-stick oil spray, like Primal Kitchen avocado oil, says keto coach, Karissa Long.

Pre-heat the air fryer to 400°F. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add in the hot sauce and whisk until fully combined. Turn the heat down to low and keep the sauce warm. Add the wings to the air fryer and spray lightly with the non-stick spray. Fry for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, open the air fryer, and rotate the wings using tongs. Continue cooking for another 10 minutes until the wings are fully cooked and crisp. Remove the wings from the air fryer. Place the wings in a bowl, cover with the warm buffalo sauce, and toss to evenly coat.

3. Kale and Feta Frittatas

“Scramble up 4 eggs, 1 cup chopped kale and 3 tbsp of crumbled feta cheese with some salt and pepper. Air fry at 360°F in a baking pan or egg cups,” says White. This recipe serves two people and has five grams of carbs per serving. You can also make a bunch at once and save for easy breakfasts or protein-packed snacks.

Dana Angelo White

5. Sesame-Crusted Fish

Sesame seeds offer some nice crunch for a more fried texture. “Brush fillets of salmon or cod with 1 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce mixed with 1 tsp honey and then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Air fry for 7 to 9 minutes at 360°F,” says White. Enjoy this high-fat and excellent source of protein for a mere five grams of carbs per serving. You can also cook up some cauliflower rice to sub for white rice and consider it takeout.

6. Jalapeño Poppers

Spice, cheese, and bacon—are you drooling yet? “Fill hollowed-out jalapeños with a mixture of cream cheese and shredded cheddar, then air fry at 360°F for 10 minutes. For a meatier spin, wrap in bacon before air frying. Each popper has less than 1.5 grams of carbs,” says White.

7. The Best Bacon Ever

Gather six slices of no-sugar-added bacon and place them in the air fryer basket. Set the temperature at 400°F. Cook for 5 minutes and then check the bacon slices. Cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until it reaches your desired doneness, and you’re set, says Long.

8. Keto Meatballs

Add these to some zoodles for a keto-friendly Italian dinner. The recipe calls for one pound ground beef, 1/4 cup no-sugar-added marinara sauce, 1 teaspoon dried minced onion, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning, 1/3 cup parmesan cheese, finely grated, and one egg.

“Pre-heat the air fryer to 350°F. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together all ingredients until fully combined. Take the mixture and form into 12 1-inch sized circular balls. Place the balls in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook in the air fryer for 10 to 12 minutes,” says Long.

9. Asparagus Wrapped With Crispy Prosciutto

Fancy. “Wrap stalks of asparagus with thinly sliced prosciutto and air fry at 360°F for 4 minutes,” says White. There are only 2 grams of carbs per serving.

Dana Angelo White

10. Steak

Chicken steals all the air-fryer thunder. So if you haven’t tried tossing a steak into the magical contraption, it’s time.

First marinate your steaks (rib eye, T-bone, whatever) overnight in a mixture of olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper. That’s it—you want the flavor of the steak to shine through. Then set the air fryer to 370°F. Put the steak into the fryer and check on it after 5 minutes. For medium-rare, the inside of the thickest part of the steak should register 135°F with a meat thermometer. Continue frying until you achieve your desired doneness.

11. Zucchini Fries

Because you’re going to need something to eat with your steak. On a large plate, dump some almond flour and season it well with salt and pepper. On another plate, beat two whole eggs. On a third plate, layer some shredded Parmesan cheese. Heat your air fryer to 370°F. Then dredged however many zucchini you’ve cut into fry-like strips into the flour, then the eggs, and then the cheese. Fry till crisp, at least 10 minutes.

12. Coconut-Crusted Shrimp

Who needs Red Lobster? Set up a breading station similar to the one in the recipe above, only swap the almond flour for coconut flour and the Parmesan cheese for shredded coconut. Set your air-fryer to 390°F and sizzle dredged large peeled and deveined shrimp till crisp, about 8 minutes.

Roy Hsu

13. Spicy Fried Broccoli Bites

They go especially well with coconut-crusted shrimp. Just set your air fryer to 380°F. Then add a handful or two of broccoli florets to the basket, spray everything with cooking spray, and drop them in. Fry until crispy, about 8 minutes, toss about halfway through. Transfer to a plate, season with salt, pepper, and a little cayenne.

14. Garlicky-Lemony Fried Cauliflower Bites

Maybe broccoli isn’t your thing. Totally get that. So, instead, follow the recipe above, but instead of using broccoli use cauliflower and instead of seasoning with salt and cayenne use garlic salt and freshly squeezed lemon juice.

15. Pork Rind Pickles

Saved the best for last. On a large plate, layer some almond flour and season with freshly ground black pepper. On another plate, whisk two whole eggs. On another crush up about a half cup of pork rinds. Dredge a large pickle slice in the flour, the egg wash, and then the pork rinds. Repeat with however many pickles you’d like, and then drop them into an air fryer set to 370°F. Fry till crispy, 5 to 7 minutes.

Wondering how to use your new air fryer? These delicious keto air fryer recipes are simple to cook and so satisfying. The air fryer makes keto diet meals easy!

If you’re following a keto diet, you may think your fried food days are behind you. After all, crispy food is often loaded with carbs when it’s breaded or battered before being deep-fried in oil, right? Well, these delicious keto air fryer recipes will change your mind!

If you’re new to the air fryer, here’s a little about what it is and how it works. First of all, air fryers don’t actually “fry” foods. They use hot air to cook the foods from all sides, similar to a convection oven. You just add your food to the “fry” basket and turn it on. Many air fryers also have accessories for grilling, or even baking in the air fryer.

This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. Please read my disclosure for more info.

Air fryers come in a variety of sizes and price points. I’ve compiled a helpful comparison of air fryers that reviews different features if you’re wondering which size air fryer will best fit your needs.

I use this Phillips Airfryer which is reasonably priced. It works so well for every recipe I’ve tried and I’m very happy with it.

Keep in mind, keto air fryer recipes often call for a small amount of oil. It’s much less than you would use in deep frying, but you still get a nice, crispy coating and wonderful flavor with the air fryer. I find browning in the air fryer is more even than in the oven, especially if you occasionally toss or turn the food mid-cooking. The air fryer is much easier to clean than a deep fryer. Most parts simply go in the dishwasher.

With air fryers, there’s really no limit to the amazing healthy recipes you can cook. If there are fried foods you’re craving, an air fryer is a great way to satisfy. These keto air fryer recipes are also paleo-friendly. Many are suited for Whole30 as well.

1. Fried chicken

This easy recipe is the epitome of why the air fryer is so darn amazing. Not only is this chicken perfectly crispy, it’s completely grain-free. The key to getting the breading just right is coconut flour, eggs, and—wait for it—pork rinds. Trust the process. This wildcard ingredient makes all the difference.

4. Crispy fish sticks

Just like how the air fryer can make chicken deliciously crispy, it has the same effect on fish, too. (Pork-rind panko is the key ingredient.) Because fish sticks taste best with a creamy sauce, this recipe includes one made with mayo and Dijon mustard.

5. Radish chips

Sure, you may have heard of people making healthy chips with kale or zucchini, but radishes are a totally underrated yet incredible option. Besides the starring veggie, all you need is a little olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. This just might become your new go-to summer snack.

6. Onion rings

Sometimes when a craving for a fast food favorite hits, nothing else will do the trick. That’s where these onion rings come in. With this recipe, you get all the flavor and none of the grease. Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

ON SALE: Two new eBooks! Visit the shop!

Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts come out so tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Those roasted edges are the best part and completely amp up the flavor of this easy air fryer recipe!

I’m curious how many of you have air fryers?

They got so dang popular so quickly that, of course, I jumped right on board. Love my air fryer!

No worries if you don’t have one yet…check out this keto Brussels sprouts recipe…basically the same thing but done in the oven!

The air fryer is super convenient for all of those frozen convenience foods that my kids always want to eat (hello, chicken nuggets) but I’ve been on a mission to use it for healthy options.

Enter these air fryer Brussels sprouts!

If you’ve only ever had grandma’s boiled Brussels sprouts, you’re probably not much of a fan of sprouts in general. I feel ya.

You just have to trust me that roasting Brussels sprouts completely changes the flavor and texture. Give them a try and see for yourself!

How to make Brussels sprouts in the air fryer:

This post contains affiliate links.

The first step is to chop the ends off the sprouts and peel off any outer leaves that are looking damaged or gross.

Cut the Brussels sprouts into halves for smaller ones and quarters for larger ones.

Toss the Brussels sprouts in a mixing bowl and drizzle with a little avocado oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt.

I like to use avocado oil for cooking because it has a neutral flavor and a high smoke point, meaning that you can cook it at higher temperatures than olive oil. The smoke point of avocado oil is 500 degrees!

The balsamic adds a touch of sweet tangy goodness that works so well with these Brussels sprouts.

Toss together your Brussels sprouts and add them to your air fryer.

Cook at 390 degrees for 10 minutes, shaking halfway through. Test your sprouts for doneness and cook a bit longer, if necessary. We like our Brussels sprouts to still be a bit firm, but they will soften up more if you cook them a bit longer.

What air fryer to use:

I did a lot of research before purchasing my air fryer, because I wanted one that held quite a bit of food. Some of them are tiny, which means that you’re cooking everything in batches.

I went with the OMORC 6 quart air fryer based on Amazon reviews, price comparison, and size. I LOVE it!

Haven’t had a problem yet, it’s a good size, and it’s super easy to clean. Highly recommend!

More easy low carb side dishes:

Roasted Turnips: Another air fryer favorite!

Instant Pot Spaghetti Squash: Spaghetti squash is another low carb veggie that we love!

Healthy Broccoli Rice Casserole: Like the classic, but somehow even better!

Cauliflower Mac and Cheese: I hate to brag, but this one really is the best!

  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  1. Trim the ends off the sprouts and slice into quarters.

  2. Add the cut Brussels sprouts to a large bowl with the oil, vinegar, and salt. Toss well to coat.

  3. Heat air fryer to 390 degrees.

  4. Add your Brussels sprouts to your air fryer basket and air fry for 10 minutes, shaking once halfway through.

  5. Test for doneness after 10 minutes. If Brussels sprouts are not as tender as you’d like, continue cooking and checking every 1 minute.

If you don’t have an air-fryer, follow this recipe for keto brussels sprouts instead.

Some balsamic vinegars contain a lot of added sugar. Check for one that is around 3-4 carbs per tablespoon before buying.

11 Reasons to LOVE Air Fryers on a Keto Diet

Is an air fryer good for a keto or low-carb diet?

Absolutely! Air fryers are both a popular and helpful kitchen appliance to cook lots of different keto air fryer recipes. I’ve been using my air fryer just about every day since I bought it and I LOVE cooking with it so much!

Air frying is super convenient, quick, and EASY! In fact, the Power Air Fryer XL is my favorite kitchen appliance right now. It has for sure earned it’s spot on my kitchen counter because of how often I use it. In fact, it’s so easy to use my tween-aged kids can also use it to make bacon every day, and we all know: BACON IS LIFE! 🥓

Here are 11 reasons why air fryers are perfect for the keto diet –

1. Make crispy air fried chicken wings with very little effort.

It takes just 30 minutes and 2 ingredients to make fantastic tasting crispy keto chicken wings using the air fryer! These are the perfect keto appetizer or meal, and are so EASY to make. The texture and taste are PERFECT – super crispy and delicious! Check out this post for full directions.

This is one of my favorite things I’ve EVER made in the air fryer… way crispier than oven-baked wings!

2. Make PERFECT hard-boiled eggs every time!

I love that there’s no boiling water needed for this fail-proof way of making hard-boiled eggs. Just place eggs in the fryer basket and set the timer for 16 minutes at 260 degrees. Let the eggs cool for a minute and then remove the shells under running water! It’s so easy!

3. Make crispy keto breaded snacks in the air fryer.

The air fryer can help you make craveable crunchy breaded snacks that are also keto! For instance, I made these super easy crunchy air fried pickles by creating a breading out of grated Parmesan cheese and crushed pork rinds! Head HERE for the full directions.

Crispy parmesan asparagus fries can also be made using the air fryer! Use these ingredients, and then lay the stalks in a single layer, and set air fryer at 400 degrees for 7 minutes to cook.

4. Kale chips have never been so fast and crispy.

Crispy keto kale chips in less than 10 minutes? Yes, please! If kale chips are your thing, they turn out fantastic in the air fryer! Head HERE for the details and EASY directions.

Hip Tip: Zucchini chips also turn out crispy and drool-worthy! Check out the recipe for these easy ranch seasoned zucchini chips.

5. Quick keto snacks in the air fryer rock!

One easy and satisfying snack idea is to air fry salami wrapped mozzarella cheese sticks. Cut cheese sticks into thirds. Wrap each with a piece of salami and secure with a toothpick. Place in the air fryer and cook for 6 minutes at 360 degrees Fahrenheit.

What a yummy and easy snack or appetizer!

Hip Tip: Next, use these tips to make crispy melted keto mozzarella cheese sticks using the air fryer, too!

6. Meat turns out DELICIOUS and juicy.

The air fryer goes way beyond tasty fries and snacks. We recently cooked some pretty amazing burgers in the air fryer. Medium-sized patties can be cooked for about 9-10 minutes at 350 degrees, or until they reach desired doneness.

Hip Tip: I also tried cooking a whole chicken using the air fryer and it turned out juicy and fantastic tasting!

7. Make the BEST Keto fries to go with your burger.

Did you know jicama is an awesome alternative to potatoes for making keto french fries?! These jicama fries can be tossed in the air fryer for 20 minutes at 400 degrees, and then you’ll be in for the ultimate keto french fry experience.

8. Keto-friendly veggies crisp up like a dream.

I made brussels sprouts that are perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside in just 10 minutes! They taste amazing and are so easy to make.

Coat Brussels sprouts with olive oil, season, and then cook in the air fryer for 10 minutes at 400 degrees. Stop and shake the basket to turn sprouts halfway through cooking.

Hip Tip: I also LOVE how air-fried asparagus, cauliflower florets, and green beans turn out using the same method as described above for brussels sprouts!

9. Make the BEST Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers EVER.

You may be able to buy the pre-assembled jalapeno poppers from your local grocer’s butcher or make your own following THIS easy recipe! Such a great low carb appetizer idea that’s always a total crowd-pleaser.

Hip Tip: Another must-try are these bacon wrapped onion rings!

10. Make mess-free bacon like a BOSS.

Cook times will vary based on the thickness of bacon, but I was able to make this traditional cut, crispy bacon in just 8 minutes at 390 degrees (thick-cut bacon may take closer to 10-11 minutes or even longer if you like really crispy bacon). The best part is that the grease drains to the bottom basket for easy cleanup!

I’m never making bacon in the oven or on the stove again. THIS method ROCKS!

11. Leftovers have never tasted better.

Seriously, you’ll never eat soggy leftovers again! I heated up this leftover Keto Pizza Quiche recipe the next day for just a couple of minutes and it was perfectly crisp again!

Leftover steak can often be tricky to reheat as it becomes tough using the microwave and dry using the stove. I always use my air fryer now to reheat steak, because it comes out juicy and I love the texture!

More reasons I love my air fryer!

    • My air fryer was so easy to use straight out of the box. It’s definitely not a complicated kitchen appliance.
    • It’s lightweight and SO easy to clean.
    • You can conveniently remove the air fryer’s basket to see if food is done cooking and then just place it back in to cook longer if desired.
    • Cook times are faster in the air fryer than in conventional ovens!
    • Cook times are also actual cook times, meaning no waiting for pre-heating or the machine to come to pressure as you would with a pressure cooker.
    • Cooking with an air fryer keeps kitchen temperatures cool, unlike a traditional oven.

Zucchini fries are a delicious nutritious low-carb alternative to potato fries and are great for EVERYONE. They’re a godsend if you’re on a low carb or keto diet because a cup of zucchini is only 3g net carbs. That leaves plenty of room for enjoying zucchini fries guilt-free and in no time thanks to an air fryer.

How to Make Crispy Zucchini Fries in Air Fryer

Breading: For low-carb and keto diets, we love using a mixture of almond flour and freshly grated parmesan cheese. The mixture is perfect and makes super crispy zucchini fries. For non-keto diets, panko bread crumbs work wonders. They are super light and crispy and are a must try.

Cooking: To get perfectly crispy zucchini fries all around, be sure not to over-crowd your air fryer. Place as many zucchini fries as you can into the air-fryer without overlapping.

Seasoning: These breadcrumbs are delicious on their own with just a pinch of salt and pepper but if you’d like to make them extra special, we highly suggest spicing things up! Adding a teaspoon or two of your favorite spice blend (Italian, taco, ranch, Cajun) to the breading mixture will take these fries to the next level!

How to make zucchini fries in the oven

These zucchini fries are delicious and quick in the air fryer but they can also be baked in the oven. To bake in the oven, simply place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes at 425F or until the zucchini fries are crispy and golden. Check out the full recipe for the oven baked version here!

Dipping sauces to serve with zucchini fries

These zucchini fries will go with just about any dipping sauce you have on hand or even ketchup or ranch. We served them with a creamy sriracha sauce. We’ve gathered our favorite dipping sauces that can be quickly whipped up in under 5 minutes while the fries are baking!

Creamy Sriracha: 1/4 cup mayo, sour cream, Greek yogurt or ranch dressing, 1 teaspoon sriracha, 1 teaspoon lemon or lime juice.

Avocado Cilantro: 1/2 avocado, 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek Yogurt, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup cilantro leaves, 1 clove garlic, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, a pinch of salt. Place in food processor and blend until smooth.

An air fryer double cheeseburger is a delicious, juicy cheeseburger that has been cooked in one of the “hottest” kitchen gadgets in the last century; the air fryer.

This double cheeseburger has tons of flavor and is super juicy, unlike a lot of burgers cooked in a skillet or on a grill.

To make this extra juicy and ultra delicious keto air fryer double cheeseburger, you’ll need to grab the following ingredients.

  • 1/2 lb ground beef (or two pre-made beef patties)
  • 2 slices cheese of choice
  • 1 pinch pink Himalayan salt
  • 1 pinch fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch onion powder

After you have these together, grab your air fryer and get ready to make magic happen!

  1. Form two 1/4 pound hamburger patties (if not using pre-made ones)
  2. Lightly salt, pepper, and onion powder the hamburger patties
  3. Place into your air fryer and set to 370°F for 12 minutes
  4. At the 6 minute mark, flip the hamburgers
  5. When the air fryer finishes, place the cheese onto the hamburger patties and shut the drawer for one minute
  6. Remove the patties, stack, and devour!

Ideally, for a keto diet, you want to aim for using higher-fat meats. Generally, a 70/30 ground beef would be the best for a recipe such as this.

However, since fatty meats and an air fryer don’t always play well together (this is discussed towards the end of this post) it is better to use slightly more lean ground beef.

Having said this, 80/20 will work just as well as 70/30 and won’t splatter as much onto the air fryer heating element.

Well, yes, you sure can. I was simply conveying that 80/20 will splatter less inside the cooking space and cause less of a smoke factor.

Again, this is discussed in more detail below.

By definition, an air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks food using the idea of convection cooking.

In case you don’t know, convection is where a fan circulates air around the food at a high speed to cook the food. Before air fryers, convection ovens were found in commercial kitchens, and more recently, in residential homes.

Air fryers have become increasingly popular over the past several years and have made their way into millions of homes.

Their precise temperature control and “crispy” cooking preset have made them extremely popular.

They are most commonly used to cook fries and breaded foods. However, their use easily extends to all kinds of other foods such as cakes, meats, and even eggs.

If you’ve never used an air fryer before, you might be asking yourself “why should I use one?” There are several reasons to use an air fryer instead of a grill, skillet, griddle, or another cooking utensil. Let’s take a look…

Due to the way they are made, air fryers make the cooking of many foods incredibly fast, easy, and convenient.

Thanks to their design of circulating hot air around the food, they heat evenly and more efficiently than if the food were simply laying on a hot surface cooking.

The heating element in the fryers heats very quickly and you’ll find the air temperature will meet the setting in no time. Even in comparison to electric stoves, the air fryer will heat much faster.

Faster heat means quicker eat! It’s a win, win!

While true, eating keto is based around the consumption of plenty of fat, there can definitely be too much fat in something.

How many times have you ever had a bowl of chili or other food that is just swimming in fat? We’ve all (unfortunately) had too many.

These cheeseburgers, for instance, will produce a fair amount of fat rendered into the bottom of the air fryer basket after cooking. Normally, in a skillet or on a grill, fat loss equals dry meat.

However, these keto air fryer double cheeseburgers will still be juicy, have plenty of fat, and be unbelievably flavorful.

In this case, we are exchanging fat loss for fat loss, right?

Sure you can. Depending on how “clean” you are trying to eat, however, make sure you take a hard look at the ingredients on frozen beef patties.

Not all pre-made beef patties are made the same. Some will be simply beef (as they should be) and others will have extra added ingredients and fillers.

Be cautious of any patties that aren’t 100% beef and contain anything except salt. Some might even hide ingredients in a label of “other spices.”

There’s nothing wrong with pre-made, frozen patties, but just be sure to do your homework before buying a box.

Of course, you can. In fact, the recipe itself already calls for salt, pepper, and onion powder, our three favorites.

However, you can easily add any number of other spices to make this recipe your very own.

Here are a few ideas for some seasonings you might add to this delicious keto air fryer double cheeseburger:

  • Garlic; minced or powdered
  • Paprika; smoked or regular (we vote for smoked!)
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Crushed red pepper
  • Ground jalapeno (for a nice kick)

Have some other delicious spices or seasonings you love on your cheeseburger? Let us know in the comments!

There are plenty of great sides that pair well with this to make an absolutely delicious meal.

Here are a few we love:

  • Low-Carb Fries
  • Baked Zucchini Rings
  • Low-Carb Spicy Roasted Broccoli
  • Keto Candied Bacon (would also be delicious to put on top of the cheeseburgers!)
  • Keto Garlic Butter Brussel Sprouts

For more ideas, you can check out our recipe index, or check out all of our side dish recipes.

Of course, there are! You can easily dip it in some no sugar added ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise.

Two of our favorites are our Keto Dipping Sauce and Keto Chipotle Sauce.

They are both creamy, tangy, and ultimately delicious with a double cheeseburger!

The chipotle sauce adds a nice smoky kick!

When choosing a cheese to go with this air fryer double cheeseburger, be cautious of the highly processed cheeses that can be readily found in your grocery store.

Highly processed cheeses are those that are manufactured to have a long shelf life and look like real cheese. Two of the most popular versions are American Singles and (although not sliced) Velveeta.

These processed cheeses are actually considered “food products” made from cheese. They also contain emulsifiers, saturated vegetable oils, extra salt, food colorings, whey or sugar.

As a result, many flavors, colors, and textures of processed cheese exist.

The better question here is why should you eat it? It’s not real and it has no real nutritional value.

Missing out on all of the added ingredients definitely won’t hurt. And, regardless, you’ll be leaving behind plenty of useless added sugars in each slice.

Instead of processed cheese, opt for real cheese. You can get it pre-sliced or in blocks and slice it yourself.

Most grocery stores now have artisan cheese sections as well that have all kinds of different, exotic, and tasty cheeses in them.

Your keto air fryer double cheeseburger begs you for a delicious (and real) cheese that is full of flavor and fats.

Want something that will really light up your taste buds? Give a couple of slices of smoked gouda a try. It’s amazing!

Well, that answer is totally up to you. The bad news, at least in our experience, is that it’s a trial and error operation to find the “expensive” cheeses you like.

The result, however, of finding a delicious cheese you love, is a strengthened flavor palette of your cooking.

When you find a cheese you love, even though it might be more expensive than the mass-produced store-bought variety, you will want to use it all the time.

The other good news about these cheeses is that they are (generally) free of any extra ingredients or additives. They also are “real” cheeses that have a good amount of fat to very low carbohydrate content.

Having said that, using a delicious artisan cheese for this keto air fryer double cheeseburger is a wonderful idea.

If you are interested in exploring the world of adding these delicious cheeses to your cheeseburger, here are some delicious (though maybe unorthodox) ideas for you.

  • Feta cheese
  • Gouda
  • Smoked gouda
  • Fresh mozzarella
  • Parmesan (trust us on this one; a drier cheese, for sure, but also delicious!)
  • Muenster

Yes, of course! I think the better question here is, why wouldn’t you add bacon to this?!

The great part about this is, you can cook bacon in the air fryer too! Just be careful about how much fat builds up in the basket.

Since you’re cooking meat in your air fryer, be sure to take a moment to read our word of caution below.

Of course! A delicious addition! Sunnyside up is a favorite of ours. Just keep in mind, more additions equal more calories and other nutritional content.

If you are keeping track of calories, you might want to amend the amount of ground beef or cheese you use, if you also add an egg.

Add all the extra cheese you want! Add multiple kinds of cheese! Stack cheese an inch high!

Adding extra cheese is easy and simple. Make this keto air fryer double cheeseburger your new favorite by using whatever your favorite cheeses are.

Just keep in mind, the more cheese you add, the more calories and (potentially) carbs you are adding as well. Make sure to keep track of this as you cheese it up!

Since you are cooking meat in your air fryer, we’d like to offer a word of caution…

We have found that anytime cook meats in our air fryer, the fryer will begin to emit a fair amount of smoke from the rear ventilation. I think the cause is fat popping from the meat and hitting the heating element above.

Very fatty ground beef (such as 70/30) and bacon will be the two worst culprits.

While this is not a huge deal, how fatty your meat is will determine how much smoke your air fryer may emit. And trust us, after a while, the smoke can really begin to fog up a room.

Ventilation nearby is a must!

To be clear, it’s not a hazard by any means, but the amount of smoke sometimes emitted can be alarming at first. Just be prepared and understand that an open window in your kitchen might in fact be your best friend when cooking meat in an air fryer.
