Walking Dead star Alanna Masterson deletes Instagram account over body shaming

Walking Dead star Alanna Masterson has deleted her Instagram account after she was body shamed.

Some viewers mocked her weight after an episode from the latest series in November.

At the time it was filmed, she was six months pregnant and producers had been trying to hide her baby bump.

Her character Tara Chambler was missing for most of the final part of the sixth series and the beginning of the seventh season after going on a supply run.

Her baby bump was hidden behind props on set but some viewers thought she looked overweight.

Two days after the show was broadcast in the US, Alanna posted a photo of her daughter Marlowe on Instagram and addressed the criticism.

“Dear Instagram trolls, bodyshamers, and the men and woman who think it’s OK to comment on my weight,” she wrote in her comment.

“I hope that you don’t have children. And if you do, I hope you teach them about kindness and acceptance.

“I hope they learn that it isn’t OK to make fun of people or call people names. I hope one day YOU learn what it takes to be a parent.”

Alanna says she put on weight to breastfeed Marlowe and has no regrets.

“Before you decide to make a comment about my chest being ‘too large’ or how ‘fat’ I’ve become, just know that this little girl got the best start to life,” Alanna says.

“I wouldn’t have changed it for a second.”

She also revealed how she balanced her acting job with her new role as a mother while shooting her scenes.

“I would LOVE to see any man or woman give birth to a baby, nurse the baby, and then work 17 hour days and NAIL their own stunts,” she says.

The star is still active on Twitter despite deleting her Instagram account.

Alanna’s co-star Josh McDermitt quit social media earlier this month after receiving death threats from fans of the show.

His character Eugene has angered some fans after his alliance with villain Negan, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The 38-year-old deleted his Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages after holding a Facebook Live when the season seven finale aired.

The Walking Dead’s Alanna Masterson has deleted her Instagram account, only a couple of weeks after her co-star Josh McDermitt quit social media altogether.

Alanna, who plays Tara Chambler in the series, can no longer be found on Instagram, although her Twitter account still exists.

While it’s unclear why Alanna has decided to close her Instagram down now, it comes a few months after she shut down body shamers for their “trolling” comments about her weight after she gave birth to her first child.

In a post that has since been removed, Alanna addressed the “Instagram trolls, body shamers, and the men and woman who think it’s ok to comment on my weight”, telling them that despite their comments, she was a proud mum.

“I hope you teach about kindness and acceptance,” she wrote. “I hope they learn it isn’t ok to make fun of people or call people names.

“Maybe you can’t get it through your thick f**king skull, but nursing a baby for a year (and pumping in a van between takes, in the dead of summer in Georgia) is a lot of work…

“So before you decide to make a comment about my chest being “too large” or how “fat” I’ve become, just know that this little girl got the best start to life. I wouldn’t have changed it for a second.”

Josh McDermitt also quit social media earlier this month, after receiving death threats following the defection of his, y’know fictional, character on the show.

“Don’t send me death threats, because I will report all that shit to the cops,” he told fans on Twitter. “I’m just sick of it.

“You can hate Eugene, I don’t care. You can think whatever you want. But when you start saying you hope I die, I don’t know if you’re talking about Josh or Eugene.”

Man, the Hilltop just cannot catch a break. First, Maggie took off. Then Jesus was cut down by a Whisperer. And on Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead, the latest leader of the community was taken out, and in epic, terrible fashion.

Tara Chambler was one of 10 people who was killed by the Whisperers and then had their zombified heads put on pikes to mark a new border that the coalition of communities was instructed not to cross. It was a horrifying end for Tara, who first showed up back in season 4 as a fun and free-spirited soul that was part of the attacking party on the prison, but then became an ally to the survivors and eventually assumed the leadership position at the Hilltop.

We connected with Alanna Masterson over email to get her thoughts on Tara’s journey, as well as her final destination. (Also make sure to read our interviews with Katelyn Nacon, who plays Enid, and showrunner Angela Kang.)

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So how did you find out about Tara’s demise?
ALANNA MASTERSON: I got a phone call from about two weeks before I shot the episode.

What was your reaction when you found out?
I was caught off guard for sure, but also excited for what the future holds. Tara has been extremely fun to bring to life.

It’s never shown on screen, but how do you think Tara got caught and kidnapped, because she was a very capable fighter?
She was probably taking a power nap.

Tara really emerged as a leader after the time jump, and as a much more serious character as well. What was it like getting to play her at this very different stage in her evolution?
It was really fun to explore that side of Tara. I wish we had gotten to explore that more, but I’m excited to see where the story goes from here.

What was your last day on set like? What kind of stories can you share about your final day knowing this was the end?
The last day on set was really nice. It was freezing cold and we were all huddled around talking and laughing. The crew is my family, and I’m going to miss them terribly. But we got to get a few last-minute jokes in before I said goodbye.

Do you have a favorite scene or episode that you did in your time playing Tara?
My favorite scenes are still with Glenn. had such a good time filming together. We just shot a short film called Naysayer, so it was exciting to work together again.

What will you miss most about playing this character and working on this show?
I’ll miss the cast and crew the most. They’ve become my home away from home, and I will forever cherish the bonds we formed. This show is impossible to make, and day after day we did it. I did it for 6 years, and I will miss the heat, the hours, and the challenges.

Alanna Masterson (Tara) addresses weight critics; talks about being a new mother while filming TWD.

From her official Instagram:

“Dear Instagram trolls, body shamers, and the men and woman who think it’s ok to comment on my weight: I hope that you don’t have children. And if you do, I hope you teach them about kindness and acceptance. I hope they learn that it isn’t ok to make fun of people or call people names. I hope one day YOU learn what it takes to be a parent. A kind, selfless parent. A working parent. A parent that puts themselves in someone else’s shoes. Maybe you can’t get it through your thick fucking skull, but nursing a baby for a year (and pumping in a van between takes, in the dead of summer in Georgia) is a lot of work, determination, and scheduling. So before you decide to make a comment about my chest being “too large” or how “fat” I’ve become, just know that this little girl got the best start to life. I wouldn’t have changed it for a second. I would’ve gladly continued to eat enough calories to produce milk for her little bones to grow. Also, grow the fuck up. Your mother should be ashamed for raising such a judgmental bully. I’m sure she knows how “courageous” you must be for trolling and hiding behind your Iphone and computers. P.s. I would LOVE to see any man or woman give birth to a baby, nurse the baby, and then work 17 hour days and NAIL their own stunts. P.s.s. Be kind to each other. We need it now more than ever. ❤️✌🏼️”

Really disappointing that the weight critique got back to her. To go from being excited to see the reaction to your centric episode to seeing your body being criticised would be awful. Sad because those same people have probably never thought twice about Eugene’s weight (nor should they) and would probably never publicly criticise the actor for it. Sad that this fandom still has to keep adding to its already embarrassing track record of treating the female actors on this show like dirt because they dislike the characters they play.
