For many runners, swiping on deodorant is a crucial part of the pre-run routine, and no list of race essentials is complete without a stick, spray, or tub of the stuff. But it’s easy to get stuck on one brand and scent for so long that you lose sight of how well it’s keeping you fresh during those sweaty summer runs when you need it most. We put a list of new-to-us deodorants and antiperspirants through the paces to find the best deodorants and antiperspirants for running—whether that means they’re more natural, more effective, longer lasting, or just more reminiscent of aloe, rose, cucumber, and sandalwood (though hopefully not all at once). Read on for full reviews of our picks and buying advice.

What Do Deodorants and Antiperspirants Do?

Running hard means sweating hard, particularly for those of us who live in the southern half of the U.S. But sweat in and of itself isn’t what causes B.O.—body odor kicks in when bacteria from your body starts breaking down accumulated sweat from your apocrine glands, which are clustered in areas with hair like the armpits. Deodorant’s job is to prevent body odor before it even happens by killing that bacteria. Antiperspirant’s job is to take it back one step further and prevent body odor by blocking your sweat glands through the use of aluminum. Antiperspirants that claim “clinical strength” have a higher concentration of the active ingredient aluminum zirconium tricholorohydrex to block sweat for up to 24 hours, though effectiveness can vary based on when you put it on. The majority of us don’t need that level of protection, though, and can get plenty of odor protection from a basic deodorant or standard antiperspirant.

How We Tested

Every deodorant on this list has been evaluated and vetted by our team of test editors. We research the market, survey user reviews, speak with product managers and designers, and use our own experience sweating through our summer mileage to determine the best. We started with a list of 15 deodorants and evaluated them all on scent, ease of use, comfort, longevity, effectiveness, and value to come up with this list of the best options to spray, glide, roll, and smear into your pits. If a deodorant can pass the runner test, that deodorant is worthy of high praise indeed. Here are the standouts.

Secret Clinical Strength

Secret Secret Clinical Strength $7.89

  • Cuts way down on underarm sweat
  • No need to reapply throughout the day

Clinical strength antiperspirants are essentially the “nuclear option” when it comes to sweat protection. Here’s how they work: If you apply the products at bedtime, they’re designed to settle into your pores and block sweat for up to 24 hours or more. The claim is that they’re more effective because of a higher concentration of the active ingredient aluminum—for example, this bar of Secret Clinical Strength has 25 percent more aluminum than a standard Secret antiperspirant, and boasts its power to protect pits for up to 48 hours. “Forty-eight hours” is a bit bold, but we did find this standard roll-on bar to be the most effective bar we tested. Photo editor Kristen Parker said it reduced her sweating all day, didn’t need to be reapplied after a workout, and caused no adverse reactions. “It’s not a magic cure to stop all sweating, but it does provide me with strong enough protection for daily use,” Parker said. As for the bar’s smell, we found it to be clean and fresh, without being overpowering.

Degree Clinical Protection Summer Strength

Degree Clinical Protection Summer Strength $6.72

  • Lasts all day without reapplication
  • Keeps underarms dry in the heat
  • Can leave marks on clothes if not careful

Like the Secret Clinical Strength, this Degree Summer Strength roll-on stick aims to provide 24 to 48 hours of protection if you put it on right before bed. While we found it had to be reapplied every 12 hours to maintain the same level of odor protection, within those long time windows it was effective in combating stress sweat and sweat from our workouts. Testers with sensitive skin had no reactions to this powerful antiperspirant and liked the fresh, fruity scent for summer use. Our only complaint is that it left marks on clothes if we weren’t careful when we were applying. “This is a perfect deodorant for anyone who loves exercising outside on those hot summer days when most people would just hide inside an air-conditioned gym,” said social media editor Katie Fogel.

Schmidt’s Rose and Vanilla Stick

Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant Rose and Vanilla $18.20 $9.46 (48% off)

  • Natural and aluminum-free
  • The smell is lovely and without that chemical tinge
  • Some testers needed a more powerful sweat-stopper
  • Need to reapply throughout the day

Natural deodorants get a bad rap for not holding up their end of the anti-smell bargain. But while that might be true for runners who need more long-term odor control, for those who don’t need as much, the ingredients and scents of natural deodorants are often preferable. That’s definitely the case with the Schmidt’s Rose and Vanilla Stick—everyone who tried it praised how well the two scents worked together and left their pits smelling like some type of hip, modern cafe that overlooks a rose garden and serves great cookies. Available in both a stick and (a less-convenient) little tub, the deodorant goes on slightly sticky (the brand recommends “softening” it first by holding it against your skin for a few seconds) but quickly rubs in, where it left no marks on our clothes. We set our expectations low for longevity, but ultimately the plant- and mineral-derived deodorant held up—after application, the Rose and Vanilla Stick provided hours of protection from odor, even during and after our runs. “Consider me a convert—I will be buying Schmidt’s in the future,” said test editor Adrienne Donica, a former natural deodorant skeptic.

Dove 0% Aluminum

Dove 0% Aluminum $5.99

  • Aluminum-free
  • Refreshing smell that isn’t overbearing
  • Costs less than most natural deodorants

Although aluminum is the only effective ingredient in antiperspirants to slow sweat by forming little plugs in your pores, it’s also deodorant’s most controversial ingredient. Several very limited studies have shown a link to the aluminum in deodorant and an increase in breast cancer, though both the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society have found the results backing those claims to be inconclusive and flawed. Runners who are nevertheless concerned about aluminum and other ingredients now have more options, including natural deodorants and Dove 0%, which is alcohol-free and aluminum-free. We found the Cucumber & Green Tea-scented roll-on stick to be clean-feeling, refreshing, and effective. “Before this deodorant I was using a natural deodorant because of health safety reasons,” said senior designer Eleni Dimou. “After using this Dove 0% I immediately noticed a difference and overall felt more refreshed and clean without having to worry about it being visible on my body or clothes. It is way more effective and costs much less than most natural deodorants.”

Ursa Major Base Layer Deodorant

Ursa Major Base Layer Deodorant Unscented $18.00

  • Scent-free so it doesn’t harm those with allergies
  • Natural and aluminum-free
  • Goes on a little wet
  • Needs reapplication

The effectiveness of this natural roll-on came as a jolt to our testers—particularly because it smells like nothing at all. “I generally don’t like natural deodorants, since I find they just don’t work that well and often have really strong scents to them,” said associate features editor Taylor Rojek. “But I was pleasantly surprised by this one—it outperformed many others I tried.” Although the round roll-on bar feels wet against underarms upon application, it dries quickly and doesn’t leave streaks on clothing. This would be a good option for runners with scent allergies or sensitive skin, as it’s baking soda- and aluminum-free. However, some runners who tested felt like they needed to reply more often than they would have with a non-natural deodorant.

Native Deodorant Coconut and Vanilla

Native Coconut & Vanilla Natural Deodorant $15.00 $11.97 (20% off)

  • The smell is natural and chemical-free
  • No aluminum
  • Natural deodorants aren’t strong enough for some

Native’s natural stick gets bonus points for evoking (but not overwhelming the nervous system with) the warm scent of coconut and vanilla, which smells a little tropical and also a little like running past a fresh, handmade bakery in the last few miles of your long run. The deodorant goes on a little sandy and leaves the occasional mark on clothes, but it rubs off easily and never feels sticky. Runners with sensitive skin liked the natural aluminum-free, paraben-free formula, and the fact that it held up longer than expected and didn’t need to be reapplied throughout the day. If beachy coconut isn’t your thing, you can choose from almost a dozen other scents, including seasonals and even a custom blend tailored to your body.

Degree UltraClear Dry Spray Black + White Pure Clean Antiperspirant Deodorant

Degree Black and White Ultraclear Dry Spray $14.34 $7.77 (46% off)

  • Feels dry immediately
  • Long-lasting
  • Spray on means you can share it
  • Spray fumes can be a bit strong

This “dry” spray made of 20 percent aluminum goes on ultra-light and doesn’t leave any marks on your running or work clothes. The floral scent, which staff photographer Lakota Gambill described as slightly chemical but also refreshing, is a bit overwhelming at first but settles into the background, where it fights odor for a claimed 48 hours. We found it to be long-lasting and effective, taking us from a morning shower through work and a run to home, without needing to be reapplied.

type: A The Visionary

type:A The Visionary $13.95

  • Natural ingredients
  • Smooth and creamy to apply
  • Refreshing citrus smell
  • Has to be reapplied throughout the day

With a name that sounds like a fantasy book sequel or a personality quiz result, the Visionary has an air of mystery about it, coupled with the light smell of citrus in its “Clean Crisp Citron” scent. But there are no surprises, chemical or otherwise, on the ingredient list—the brand’s odor-fighting formula gets its power from organic vegetable-derived glycerin, aloe, zeolite, baking soda, and arrowroot powder. The cream is easy to apply using the squeeze applicator, and though it goes on pretty wet, we had no trouble keeping it off clothes. Test editor Riley Missel found that it worked better than other non-aluminum deodorants at preventing odor during a workout, but she had to reapply several times throughout the day to maintain the protection.

Secret Outlast Invisible Solid

Secret Outlast Invisible Solid Antiperspirant $4.97

  • Goes on smooth and clear
  • Long-lasting
  • Inexpensive

This antiperspirant stick goes on smooth and invisible and stays with you for a claimed 48 hours thanks to 19 percent aluminum (for comparison’s sake, the Secret Clinical Strength has 20 percent). The fresh and flowery laundry detergent scent is strong but not overpowering. After testing it over the course of a few runs, associate health and fitness editor Danielle Zickl found it to be a solid option for runners looking for a little more power from their deodorants. “It worked great for everyday use and after workouts, too,” Zickl said. “It says that it protects against odor for 48 hours. While I never went that long without reapplying it, I found that after sweaty and intense runs and strength workouts, I didn’t smell as gross as I thought I would—and could still even smell a faint hint of the deodorant.”

Lululemon Anti-Stink Deodorant Black Pepper Sandalwood

Lululemon Anti-Stink Deodorant $18.00

  • Testers loved the sandalwood scent
  • Quick-drying
  • Some testers felt it had to be reapplied too often

Whether you’re germ-averse, sharing deodorant, or just prefer spray-on application, this Lululemon deodorant has your pits covered in natural, animal-product-free odor protection. We tried the musky black pepper sandalwood and slightly floral aloe lotus, both of which had pleasant smells that weren’t overwhelming. The spray goes on easily and dries quickly, leaving zero marks on our running clothes. Assistant digital editor Jessica Coulon, who usually uses an aluminum deodorant, said the aloe spray worked for up to six hours, but reapplication depended on her sweat level. On running days, she had to reapply more often. Testers who used the black pepper sandalwood found it to be much more effective at blocking stink during and after workout and didn’t need to reapply as regularly.

Excessive Sweating in Women

Sweating is normal and healthy. How much you sweat depends on a wide range of factors, including gender, weight, genetics, environment and diet. Men and women both sweat, but men sweat 40 percent more than women, on average.

Some sweat much more than others, and with good reason. There are two causes of excessive sweating: hyperhidrosis and diaphoresis.

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that makes you sweat more than you should to regulate your body temperature. Nearly 5 percent of the population suffers from hyperhidrosis. While there are treatments for hyperhidrosis, there is no cure.

Diaphoresis, on the other hand, is extreme, all-over sweating due to a specific underlying cause. Common causes of diaphoresis include pregnancy, menopause, specific medical conditions and taking certain medications. Once the cause is treated, the excessive sweating stops.

There are many remedies to prevent underarm sweat. For most sweaty women, an effective deodorant or antiperspirant is an optimal starting point for reducing sweat.

What to Look For in Deodorant

There are two types of products that control odor and sweat: — deodorant and antiperspirant.

Deodorant and antiperspirant are actually two separate products. Deodorants combat body odor, while antiperspirants block sweat. Most of what is referred to as “deodorant” today is actually an antiperspirant/deodorant combination.

In this article, we’ll use “deodorant” to refer to antiperspirant/deodorant products.

When you’re choosing a deodorant, keep these questions in mind:

  • Sweating levels: Always dealing with pit stains? If you use deodorant daily and still struggle with sweat stains, try clinical or prescription-strength products.
  • Scent: Do you want something that smells good? Whether you like fruity, fresh, or natural, there are great smelling deodorants that actually work.
  • Skin sensitivity: Is your skin sensitive to chemicals? Do you develop rashes? You’ll want a deodorant that is unscented or includes moisturizers to lessen irritation.
  • Ingredients: Are you vegan, or looking for something with natural ingredients? While many concerns about toxins in antiperspirants have been disputed, you may still prefer natural options.

Best women’s deodorants to help you stop smelling now the weather is heating back up

It may not be the most glamorous addition to your morning routine, but a deodorant is probably the most important step of getting ready for the day.

Pick the wrong one and you could find yourself with dreaded sweat patches and an iffy odour before you’ve even finished your first coffee. Whether you want a roll-on, a spray or an organic formula, there really is a type of deodorant that can tackle any of your underarm problems.

Here are eight best for banning both bad odours and giving you super-strength sweat protection from morning to night (and sometimes even the next night)…

1. Perspirex Comfort antiperspirant roll on, £8.77

If you’ve tried loads of supermarket deodorants and can’t find one that delivers on both odor and sweat control, this might be for you. Apply this at night and it should keep you fresh and dry for three to five days – no need to reapply in the morning! This sensitive formula promises to be gentle on your underarms, too.

*Know the difference: A deodorant neutralizes odor while an antiperspirant reduces sweat. If you do suffer from both excessive sweating and odor then you may want to opt for a formula that covers you on both, like Perspirex.

2. Nivea Black & White Invisible antiperspirant deodorant spray, £3

White deodorant marks are often impossible to avoid when getting dressed, but this spray dries quickly, stops your clothes from staining and reduces the powdery streaks down your clothes.

3. Dove Invisible Care antiperspirant deodorant roll on, £1.50

If you don’t want white marks but also don’t fancy using a spray, then this roll on is for you. The moisturising formula also contains no alcohol so is perfect for sensitive skin.

4. Soft & Gentle 0% Aluminium Dry Deodorant, £2

This spray on is made of 80% natural ingredients, contains no aluminium, and is suitable for vegetarians. It also promises effective odour protection for 24 hours.

5. The Body Shop Aloe Caring roll on deodorant, £4.50

If you prefer to use organic beauty products then this deodorants contains no fragrance, colour or alcohol. The aloe vera they use is also pure community trade from Mexico.

6. Sure Maximum Protection Antiperspirant Cream Stick Confidence, £3

Feel both fresh and dry with this creamy stick deodorant. It’s gentle on skin, delivers up to 48 hours of protection, and dries quickly so that it doesn’t rub off on clothes.

7. Sanex Dermo Sensitive antiperspirant deodorant, £1.58

If you often find your underarms get itchy after using a deodorant then you might need a gentler formula, like this one. It moisturises, balances and controls sweat and smells.

8. Weleda Sage Deodorant, £9.95

This natural deodorant counteracts unpleasant odours with a sage leaf formula. The fine spray doesn’t look like a typical deodorant but it dries quickly and doesn’t feel sticky.

9. Neal’s Yard Remedies Lemon & Coriander Deodorant Spray, £8.50

(Image: Neal’s Yard)

This all-natural spray from popular organic beauty brand Neal’s Yard Remedies is packed with eight essential oils and cleansing extracts to combat sweat and odor whilst being gentle on your skin.

How to Correct Excessive Body Odor

Millions of people struggle with body odor on a regular basis, and it’s certainly nothing to be ashamed of. However, it can pose certain challenges, especially if the person has to interact with friends or colleagues throughout the day.

To address this issue, we’ve compiled the following guide which will help people tame their body odor and help them feel more in control and confident.

Choose the Right Deodorant Or Antiperspirant

While we’ve listed a variety of deodorant in the above list that has shown themselves to be up to the task of handling underarm odor, not every deodorant on that list is going to be useful to everyone.

Now don’t get us wrong, we certainly believe there is a deodorant on that list for just about anyone, but the person still has to choose the one that’s appropriate for them. After choosing a deodorant, it should then be used according to label instructions for best results.

Shower Regularly

We’re not telling you anything new when we tell you to shower regularly, but we would like to reinforce the importance of a daily shower. We’d also like to take a moment that the soaps you use can either help or hinder your efforts to reduce body odor. When choosing a shower gel or body wash, try to buy one that not only deodorizes but also kills bacteria as well. If you can’t find a product that suits you, you can also try a homeopathic approach before you take your next shower.

Make a paste out of baking soda and lemon juice and apply it to your underarms for a few minutes before you shower. After this time has elapsed, you can then take a shower as you normally would. Why does this work? It works because the acidic solution makes it hard for bacteria to survive and the baking soda in it helps to absorb certain body oils. All of which means you’re going to smell a whole lot fresher after your shower.

Keep Your Body Dry

The two things that odor-causing bacteria need to thrive are darkness and moisture. Since you can’t help bring light to your underarms, your groin or other sensitive areas of your body, then you have to make an effort to keep these body parts dry.

This means drying off thoroughly after showering and using antiperspirant deodorant as needed. There are also a number of different powders available which can be used to control body moisture.

Wash Your Clothes Thoroughly

Sweat from working out and from other day-to-day activities can really soak into your clothing and leave you smelling bad, even when you’re clean and fresh. Make sure that you launder your clothes regularly and use a disinfect in your wash if necessary.

Fight Bacteria Directly

If the above measures just aren’t getting the job done, then you may have to take more drastic measures. One thing that can be done to fight body odor is to destroy the bacteria which causes it. If this step is necessary, then create a solution of 8-ounces of water and 2-teaspoons of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.

Mix it well and then use a washcloth to apply to the offending areas including your feet, your groin and your armpits. If you want, this solution can also be applied over the body to destroy any troublesome odor-causing bacteria.

Try Shaving

While this step isn’t for everyone, it can still be an effective solution for battling body odor. Body hair, particularly under your underarms, can trap body odor. It can then release this odor. In order to battle this problem, simply shave the areas in question.

Apply Deodorant Regularly

If you’re suffering from body odor, then you probably already carry deodorant with you for reapplication throughout the day, but it’s still something worth mentioning.

Depending on how effective the deodorant is, sweat and normal physical activity can lessen its effectiveness, so applying a fresh coat is a good solution to this problem.

Apply a Nighttime Antiperspirant

Some people have found it effective to apply an antiperspirant before you head off to bed. Applying antiperspirant right before bedtime allows the product to do its job while you aren’t sweating. If you decide to try this method, keep in mind that there is a difference between a deodorant and an antiperspirant.

Deodorants try to mask your natural body odor with a pleasant smell. Antiperspirants, on the other hand, reduces sweat and that can result in a reduction of body odor. After all, less sweat usually means less odor. Sure, antiperspirants often contain deodorants but not all deodorants have an antiperspirant, so be sure to check your product’s label.

Make Dietary Changes

Sometimes a person’s diet can contribute to body odor. Fragrant spices such as onions, curry, and garlic can come out of your pores via your sweat, and this can cause your body odor. Other foods which can cause body odor include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and asparagus. Fatty foods and some oils can also contribute to body odor as well.

Drink Plenty of Water

Believe it or not, not drinking enough water throughout the day can contribute to body odor. Always make sure that you’re well hydrated, and your sweat will almost certainly smell at least a little bit better.

Consult With Your Doctor

Certain medical conditions, such as hyperhidrosis, can result in either excessive sweating, body odor or both. If you suffer from one of these conditions, then it’s important that you consult with your physician to get the underlying condition fully under control.

If you don’t, then none of the above remedies is going to help you with your body odor. Many people simply have to deal with their underlying medical conditions, and then their body odor automatically resolves itself.

Body odor doesn’t have to cause you to withdraw from friends, family, and coworkers. As you can see from the above steps, it’s a condition that is extremely treatable. All you have to do is choose the right products, take a few preventive measures and take care of yourself. If you do all of that, then your body odor issues will resolve themselves.

15 Deodorants That Won’t Let You Down

Deodorant is an everyday essential for most of us, but the long and cluttered antiperspirant and deodorant aisle at drugstores can be stressful. With so many options, how does one choose the best deodorant for women?

Which is the best deodorant to stop sweating?

For starters, there’s antiperspirant versus deodorant. The first prevents sweating and wetness while the latter tackles the stinky bacteria that comes about via sweat. A simple deodorant works well for those who don’t sweat a lot, but if wetness tends to take over your underarm area, then an antiperspirant is the way to go in order to stay dry.

Is antiperspirant or deodorant bad for you?

Many antiperspirants work by temporarily plugging sweat glands with somewhat controversial ingredients from aluminum salts. Though there is , there are several natural formulas on our list for women looking to avoid this ingredient.

What is the healthiest deodorant?

The healthiest deodorants are all about what’s left out rather than what’s included on the ingredient label. You want to avoid aluminum, parabens and phthalates. If you’re the sensitive type, look for ones without alcohol or baking soda. And you can always go vegan.

What is the most effective antiperspirant/deodorant?

The best deodorant for women has serious staying power. And despite portable pocket refreshers popping up on the market, you really don’t want to have to worry about reapplying your deodorant or antiperspirant throughout the day. You also want a scent you can tolerate that won’t overpower those around you. When it comes to delivery methods, it’s all about personal preference. You may be partial to the classic stick format (as long as it doesn’t leave any white marks) or prefer the spray-and-go approach. There are even cream options that absorb surprisingly quickly.

11 Best Deodorants For Sweaty People Who Want To Stay Dry All Summer Long

Whether you struggle with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), or simply sweat more than you’d like, investing in one of the best deodorants for sweaty people can help you stay dry during the hottest of days. But, there are a lot of deodorants and antiperspirants out there and it can get tricky to figure out which ones are really up to the task.

The Best Deodorants For Sweat

Firstly, the best deodorants for sweat will be long-lasting, aluminum-based formulas with clinical-strength ingredients. While there’s some controversy around aluminum-based antiperspirants, aluminum serves an important purpose in blocking your sweat glands from producing (or overproducing) sweat.

A little background: The aluminum compounds in antiperspirants perform dual functions — to prevent glands from producing sweat and to eliminate odor-causing bacteria from forming. For this reason, you’ll find aluminum in the ingredient list of most of the best antiperspirants for sweat. But, if you are looking for an aluminum-free deodorant, there are a few on this list that won’t block sweat quite as well, but which reviewers still love.

Secondly, be wary of labels. If you’re struggling with sweaty armpits (or sweat anywhere, for that matter), you’ll want to make sure you pick up a formula that’s clearly labeled as an antiperspirant. While the terms “antiperspirant” and “deodorant” are sometimes used interchangeably, deodorants prevent sweat-related odor, whereas antiperspirants actually block sweat. (Important note: Many popular formulas are both an antiperspirant and deodorant.)

Here are the 11 best deodorants for sweat that will keep your feeling dry and smelling your best. No reapplications necessary.

1. Certain Dri Everyday Strength Clinical Deodorant & Antiperspirant

Certain Dri Everyday Strength Clinical Antiperspirant (2-Pack) $15, Amazon

Not only is this fan-favorite deodorant powerful, but it comes with the backing of doctors who say this long-lasting antiperspirant is great for heavy sweaters. Hundreds of reviewers with excessive sweating (or heavy sweating), say this deodorant has worked wonders when nothing else would. At just $6, this is a fantastic buy. Word to the wise: Reviewers say less is more with this formula, so apply carefully.

What fans say: “I’ve always had a lot of trouble with sweaty arm pits. I always had to watch what I wore and was always scared in public I’d have pit stains. Which I did a lot of the times. I tried the Thompson tee shirts that have all the padding at the arm pits to reduce sweat, but I was embarrassed when someone saw me with the shirt on and it was weird wearing an undershirt all the time. But it’s a whole new story with Certain Dri. I use this in the morning before I start my day and the clinical prescription strength roll on before bed.”

2. ZeroSweat Antiperspirant & Deodorant

ZeroSweat Antiperspirant, $19, Amazon

I know what you’re thinking: Spending $19 on a 1-ounce roll-on deodorant is outrageous. But, this deodorant packs clinical strength sweat-fighting capabilities, and is even advertised as a great treatment for hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. This strong (and FDA-approved!) formula touts a seven-day lasting power, and fans have flocked to the review section to say that this is the best deodorant they’ve ever tried, with some calling it, “career changing,” and others saying after trying this formula, “I got my life back.” Enough said?

What fans say: “This product saved my life! I was struggling with sweat and extreme odor for several months. I tried almost every antiperspirant and deodorant on the market and nothing worked. I could barely make it through half the day without having to freshen up and reapply deodorant. I was frustrated, embarrassed, and ready to give up. I’m glad that I took a chance on this product and will definitely purchase more when it’s time to replenish my supply. It is very strong so a little goes a long way.”

3. Duradry Prescription Strength Deodorant/Antiperspirant & 3-Step System

Duradry 3-Step Protection System, $35, Amazon

This three-step system is recommended by both dermatologists and people who have hyperhidrosis. While $35 may seem steep, hundreds of Amazon fans have said this deodorant worked when nothing else would.

What fans say: “I have suffered from hyperhidrosis for going on 8 years now, since I started high school.. I could never wear t-shirts, cause I would sweat through them as soon as I got into school. The only thing that worked was botox, which was $200-$300, and only lasted 6 months. I’ve been using Duradry for a week now and it has done way more wonders than botox ever did.”

Reviewers say they’ve had luck using it on their armpits, their feet, and even their hands to help curb excessive sweating. Best yet, at $19 for six roll-on deodorants, this is a superb value.

What fans say: “This antiperspirant / deodorant is perfect for someone with sensitive skin. I have used many other products that have caused skin irritations and this one has not failed me yet. It is both the strongest product on the market to prevent sweating and mask odor, but is a good balance for those prone to skin irritation.”

5. Vanicream Clinical Strength Antiperspirant / Deodorant

Vanicream Clinical Strength Antiperspirant/Deodorant, $8, Amazon

It also offers 24-hour protection against odor and sweat, and has won over hundreds of Amazon fans. It’s even gluten-free, cruelty-free, and vegan!

What fans say: “This has had to be some of the best deodorant I have ever used! I found out about this deodorant through my mom via the dermatology clinic she works in and I regret not using it sooner. I always thought that it was prescription only, but now that I know that I can buy it online, I most definitely will be. As someone who sweats heavily, this is a godsend!”

6. LAVANILA Sport Luxe Deodorant

Lavanila Sport Luxe Deodorant, $14, Amazon

Aluminum-free deodorants tend to not always get the job done. But, this aluminum-free deodorant from Lavanila is a fan-favorite amongst people who sweat, and has the Amazon reviews to back it. The formula has a light vanilla scent that people love, and is even paraben-free and made with 100 percent natural ingredients. It might not pack quite as great a punch as others on this list, but if you’re looking to avoid aluminum, this deodorant is the way to go.

Not only does it offer 24-hour protection against odor and sweat, but it dries quickly so you won’t end up with any of it on your clothes after you apply. As with other aluminum-free deodorants on this list, it doesn’t perform quite as well at minimizing sweat as the aluminum-based antiperspirants on this list. But reviewers say it does a great job eliminating odors, and works fine at controlling sweat under non-extreme heat conditions.

What fans say: “If you are really concerned about aluminum in anti-perspirants, this is for you. If not really that big on going no aluminum, aybe not. I am a heavy sweat-er and this works okay for me around the house, but if I go outside and really sweat, it’s not so good, I sweat heavily and this doesn’t cover it up.”

11. SweatBlock Antiperspirant

Sweat Block Deodorant, $20, Amazon

These antiperspirant towelettes have racked up thousands of Amazon reviews because they get the job done. Providing clinical strength protection, each towel is designed to help you stay dry for up to seven days. How they work: Before bed, rub a towel under your arms when they are clean and dry. Allow your underarms to air dry and then go to bed. During the night, this antiperspirant will go hard to work on your sweat glands, and help provide extra protection during the days to come. Even better, these towelettes can work on any skin, if excessive sweating affects you in other areas of your body like your hands, forehead, or feet. But, don’t take my word for it: Over 5,000 Amazon fans sing their praises.

What fans say: “I am an excessive sweater. I tried just about every antiperspirant available, even “clinical” strength. I have canaried every white t-shirt and ruined countless dress shirts. I started using this and that has all ended. As a routine, I put this on Sunday night after a shower and let it dry (as directed by the instructions). The next morning I put on deodorant and go through the day with extremely little to no sweating. I typically shower every morning before heading to work. I work two to five times a week and shower after that. Even with all that, I go a whole week with one application and it works great.”
