Blake Lively shows off 27kg weight loss after pregnancy

HOLLYWOOD actor Blake Lively has shown off her dramatic weight loss, revealing it’s taken her 14 months to drop 27kg after giving birth to her second daughter.

Taking to Instagram, the 30-year-old showed off her body alongside trainer Don Saladino, who she credits as helping her shed the weight.

“Turns out you can’t lose the 61 lbs (27kg) you gained during pregnancy by just scrolling through Instagram and wondering why you don’t look like all the bikini models,” she wrote in the caption.

Blake Lively has shed 27 kilos over 14 months.

“Thanks @donsaladino for kickin my A double S into shape. 10 months to gain, 14 months to lose. Feeling very proud.”

According to Diabetes Australia, the recommended amount of weight gain in pregnancy depends on your BMI before becoming pregnant. Generally, you should aim for about 11.5kg to 16kg.

Trainer Don Saladino posted his own message to the actor, saying he “couldn’t be more proud” of her staggering loss.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2015, Mr Saladino said that Lively ate a good mix of foods, and didn’t punish herself for cheat meals.

“I think the beauty of the approach she took is the approach I’m trying to get most people to take, is that shorter is sweeter,” he explained.

Former Biggest Loser trainer Tiff Hall recently shared her weight loss journey, following the birth of her first child Arnold in September.

Hall gained 30kg during her difficult first pregnancy, and admits to being “sick the whole time right up until my last contraction”.

In January, the fitness guru revealed she’d lost 21kg – just four months after giving birth.

“I couldn’t do a full squat. I had to use the couch. The fact that I couldn’t do a push up … It’s so strange. My body collapsed because my core was so weak,” Hall said.

“I’ve had to start on the lowest fitness level. I have a long way to go. My goal is to get up to five push ups on my knees. I’ve had to really work hard and it’s given me a greater appreciation for others who start from scratch with no strength.

“I have so much more empathy now, because I could deliver the exercises before but now I really understand how frustrating it is for new mums.

“What we actually did was no gluten and no soy,” Lively told Australian radio show, The Kyle and Jackie O Show, as reported by the Daily Mail. Lively revealed that she initially thought cutting out soy would be easy. She quickly realized, however, “there is soy in everything,” including healthy and organic foods.

“But once you remove soy, you realize you are eating just like no processed foods,” Lively said. “That’s basically what I did: No processed foods and then working out.”

She never counts calories.

Saladino told Cosmopolitan that training your metabolism to be more efficient means that you need to eat enough food — so Lively doesn’t concern herself with creating a caloric deficit.

“I don’t think putting someone into a caloric deficit, meaning restricting their calories, is the right thing to do,” Saladino said. “This is why a lot of coaches and a lot of people are unsuccessful.”

Indeed, without calorie-counting, Lively is able to listen to her body and keep herself properly fueled, which means she rarely overeats.

“The one thing she’s always done a good job with is that she doesn’t overeat,” Saladino told Cosmopolitan. “She’s not shoving big meals on her throat. She’s never really in the mood to, because she’s keeping herself properly fueled throughout the day.”

She focuses on protein-packed, nutrient-dense foods.

According to Saladino’s interview with Cosmopolitan, Lively’s general eating plan is focused on “organic, balanced meals consisting of proteins, vegetables, fruits, slow-burning starches like sweet potato, and getting healthy fats like avocado, coconut oil, and grass-fed butter.”

Even when training for “The Shallows,” Lively still allowed herself sugar and indulgences “in moderation,” as she revealed on The Kyle and Jackie O Show. She told Vogue her favorite foods are melted cheese and chocolate soufflé— and that she bakes so often it inspires her husband, Ryan Reynolds, to call their home kitchen “The Blakery.”

It certainly seems Lively has a special affinity for chocolate — particularly hot chocolate and homemade hot fudge sundaes.

For upper body, Saladino gives her 3-4 exercises targeting her shoulders and arms that will be repeated for 3-4 rounds, completing 8-10 reps. She finishes with a quick burst of cardio or 20-30 minutes on the elliptical, treadmill, or Stairmaster.

To tone and strengthen her lower body, Lively does 3-4 exercises, like the kettlebell deadlift, lateral lunges, and split squats for 3-4 rounds, completing 8-10 reps, finishing with cardio. Lively hits the pool on day three, focusing on interval workouts like treading water and long-distance swimming. When traveling, she’ll go outdoors and do bodyweight exercises. She’ll begin with 3-5 dynamic mobility exercises like single-leg glute bridges. Next is strengthening exercises like walking lunges, push-ups and planks. On her active recovery day, the only instruction Lively has is to move, whether it be a walk with her children and husband or a bike ride.


Her Diet

Saladino advises all his clients consume protein, healthy fats, and vegetables one hour before working out “because low carbs help with brain function.” Paying attention to the quality of food consumed was one of the biggest things Lively did, with Saladino sharing that he doesn’t believe in caloric deficits or going low carb. “Every meal has to be a protein, carb, and veggie,” says Saladino adding that Lively tries to avoid processed and junk foods.

As you can see, there are no gimmicks or fads in Lively’s routine. Just minimally processed foods and hard work!

Blake Lively filmed The Shallows wearing nothing but a bikini, mere months after giving birth to her daughter, James. Now, the actress is sharing the diet secrets that helped her get in shape so darn fast.

On the Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O In the Morning, Blake revealed that her pre-filming diet contained no gluten or soy. “Once you remove soy, you realize you’re eating no processed foods,” said Lively. “So that’s basically what I did. No processed foods and then working out.” (Should You Really Hate On Processed Foods, though?)

While limiting her diet wasn’t exactly an easy adjustment, she focused on the healthy foods she could eat. “It’s all in moderation,” she said. “You just have a balance of protein, carbs, and vegetables. And it wasn’t the worst. Like, I was eating rice and sushi.” (We’re assuming she excluded the soy sauce.) Blake’s trainer Don Saladino told People that she planned four small meals each day, which included a protein, veggie, and slow-burning carb (usually sweet potatoes or white rice, which is naturally gluten free).

The one meal that served up the most temptation for Blake was breakfast, as the actress shared The Shallows cast and crew would make fresh muffins every morning. “That was the hardest part,” she said. “They smelled so good!”

While nixing soy and gluten from her diet might have contributed to her successful weight loss-most likely by limiting her options-neither is actually unhealthy at face value. Gluten is found many whole grains, which are part of the foundation of a healthy diet. As for soy, research has shown that soy can improve overall cholesterol levels. It’s also been linked to lower blood pressure and better bone health.

The bottom line: Elimination diets aren’t for everyone, and you shouldn’t totally villanize soy and gluten. But to be fair, celebs like Blake often take a more extreme dieting approach for the sake of, say, a high-definition movie in a bathing suit. (That’s why we love her for turning some of the focus on what her body can DO-like give birth to a whole new life.)

However, Lively pointed out that just because she pushed herself to get fit, not everyone has too. She noted, “But, it’s also okay if you don’t. If that’s not a priority or a goal of yours, then that’s fine, too.”

4. She loved her body before losing the weight

Lively admitted that she loved her post-pregnancy body, even before losing the weight. In 2016, she confessed, “After I had a kid I thought, ‘Okay, this is what my body looks like. This is amazing — I earned this body.”

She added, “’And it’s not as good as it was before I had a kid, but, oh well.’”

Saladino sat down with E! News to reveal exactly how he helped Lively get into such incredible shape. We were shocked to learn that literally anyone can follow her diet and exercise regime, without feeling deprived.

It may have taken Lively 14 months, but she and Saladino agreed that they weren’t aiming for any quick fixes. He explained, “When it came down to her losing weight in a short amount of time, that wasn’t something we wanted to do. We knew if we could take our time and really focus more on how her clothes fit her rather than the scale.”

He also noted, “That’s the same approach I take with everyone. I don’t like quick fixes. Blake and I wish that people would be more realistic.”

6. Her diet is all about moderation

Lively’s diet isn’t ridiculously strict, and she isn’t depriving her body of calories or carbs. Instead, she’s choosing whole foods and better options overall. Saladino explained, “She tries to focus on good quality food. If she’s eating pasta, it’s a good quality pasta. If she’s eating cookies, its good quality cookies. She tries to avoid processed foods, and junk foods. There’s a list of foods that one can eat on any budget that isn’t garbage.”

He added, “This is a very attainable way to do things, and I think anyone can do it the way she does it. She doesn’t drink alcohol. She focuses on things in moderation and doesn’t deprive herself of a dessert if she’s at a party.”

7. Her exercise routine stayed very consistent

Saladino described Lively’s exercise routine as “very consistent,” but overall, it sounds like a pretty manageable training schedule. He recounted, “We made sure that she was in the gym 4-5 days a week. Certain days, we worked for an hour, and other days they only had 20-30 minutes because she’s on a tough schedule with her kids.”

However, “Other days, she had to hit it on her own. These are very attainable ways to go about doing things.”

Saladino shared Lively never had a goal weight to reach. Instead, it was all about feeling good. “She just said, ‘Listen this is the process, this is what we need to be doing and I have to enjoy it,’” he recalled.

“I don’t want to put a lot of pressure on myself,” Lively explained. “I’m going to have good days and bad days and let’s just let the process happen.”

First and foremost, Blake Lively knows there’s no such thing as an overnight success when it comes to weight loss. In fact, it took her 14 months to get into shape post-baby. On top of that, the A-lister put in work five to six days a week with celebrity trainer Don Saladino.


Blake didn’t jump right into intense training sessions — she built up to them with warm-ups. Most days, Blake started her workout with foam rolling, activation mobility, and dynamic warm-ups to get her heart rate up and her body warmed up for training.

Upper body

To tone her upper body, Blake does three to four shoulder and arm workouts. Each workout consists of three to four rounds of eight to ten reps. In addition to the exercises, she also hops on the treadmill, elliptical, or Stairmaster for 20 to 30 minutes.

Lower body

As far as the lower body is concerned, Blake sticks to the same number of reps and rounds but trades her upper body exercises out for things like lateral lunges, split squats, and kettlebell deadlifts. Similar to arms day, she ends her workout with 20 to 30 minutes of cardio.

In between her resistance training, Blake switches it up with long-distance swimming and interval exercises such as treading water.

Recovery days

Blake knows recovery is just as important as working out. Once a week she treats herself to one full day of rest (aka, no workouts) and one active recovery day. On her active recovery day, her only goal is to move her body. Chasing her kids around or going for a bike ride counts as an active recovery.

Travel workouts

Like most celebrities, Blake has a demanding career that requires her to travel a lot. That said, she still keeps up with her workout routine. Instead of lifting weights and doing other gym-friendly workouts, Blake focuses on bodyweight exercises such as single-leg glute bridges and walking lunges.

Avoid processed food

While on her weight loss journey, Blake did her best to avoid things like processed and junk foods. Consuming these types of foods can not only have a negative effect on health, it can defeat the purpose of exercising.

Eat protein, veggies, and healthy fats before a workout

Knowing what to eat before a workout can make a serious difference in performance. Because of that, Blake did her best to follow her trainer’s instructions and eat protein, veggies, and healthy fats before each session. In addition, her trainer advised her to add carbs into her diet, as he doesn’t believe in low carb diets.

The 29-year-old actress is mum to three-year-old James and 1-year-old Ines. And, like any other mother, she’s the first to admit the struggle of getting that post-baby bod back after giving birth.

In the past, the American star has spoken out about the unfair pressure on new mums to lose their baby weight. She said, “I think a woman’s body after having a baby is pretty amazing.

“You don’t need to be Victoria’s Secret ready right away, because you just did the most incredible miracle that life has to offer. You gave birth to a human being. So I would really like to see that celebrated.”

But unlike the rest of us, Blake Lively had a film to shoot just eight months after giving birth. Blake has finally divulged how she managed to get into “the best shape of her life” for shark-thriller film The Shallows. And, surprisingly, the actress revealed that she did just two simple things to slim down…

Chatting on Australia’s Kylie and Jackie O radio show, Blake admitted that the film provided motivation for getting in shape.

She said, “I’ve never been in that good of shape in my whole life so to do it after having a kid was actually really nice,”

“Because you see your body after having a kid, and it’s beautiful because you just gave birth. But you also say, ‘Oh my god, this is not what my body looked like’. You feel like you’re never going to get your body back again. But you can and that was what was encouraging about it!”

So how did she get her body to look like that?

Well, in a tale as old as time, it was a combination of good old diet and exercise. But there were a few things she did have to cut out of her diet to make it work.

She revealed, “I did no gluten and no soy, which seems like, ‘Oh, that’s really easy to cut that out,’ but you realise there’s soy in everything you eat. And even if it’s healthy – whole foods, organic stuff – there’s always soy in it. So once you remove soy, you realise you’re eating just no processed foods.”

But get this – the former Gossip Girl star was still allowed treats, admitting that she got her film body despite still occasionally indulging her sweet tooth!

Blake said, “I was still able to have sugar and all of those things. It’s all in moderation. You just have a balance of protein, carbs, and vegetables. And it wasn’t the worst. I was eating rice and sushi and but just no soy and no gluten. And watch how hard that is.”

Well, she’s certainly convinced us!

But, of course, a healthy diet goes hand in hand with exercise, and you definitely can’t have one without the other. So Blake also admitted she did LOTS of working out in order to tone up. Speaking to E! News in 2016, she also revealed, “I worked out with an amazing trainer Don Saladino.

“He kicked my butt. It was also eight months after having a baby so my body was already completely different than what it normally was. Not just aesthetically but also your muscles are different, your body, everything is just shifted and changed.”

It’s not easy keeping up with your husband’s physique when he’s Ryan Reynolds.

AKA Deadpool. AKA Shredded. AKA Amazing…

But, if there’s a woman that’s up for the challenge, it is definitely the stunning Blake Lively.

She’s shown off her talent in Gossip Girl, but also movies ranging from Accepted, Savages, Green Lantern, and The Age of Adeline – all the way to The Town, and The Shallows.

Oh, did I say talent? (Well, I did mean talent..)

Most women (and more than likely men as well if you’re reading this) are out there saying “Uh, how about showing off her body……”!

So, let’s get to that!

Blake Lively Stats:

Height: 5’10

Weight: (approximate) 130 lbs.

Age: 30 years old

Blake Lively’s 5’10 is actually quite tall for a woman – and she comes in as one of the tallest we’ve seen at SHJ – standing along in the range with Gal Gadot, Zendaya, Sophie Turner, and Jennifer Lawrence.

The average is roughly in that 5’4-5’6 range, consisting of women like Jennifer Aniston, Katie Cassidy, Margot Robbie, Caity Lotz, Olivia Munn, and more!

And, we can’t leave out the short ladies like Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Emilia Clarke and others.

But, don’t worry.

If you’re not in that tall range, you can still use this routine; it’s made for anyone and everyone.

Blake Lively Diet and Nutrition

Blake Lively found a way to eat unprocessed foods by cutting a bit chunk of her diet out.

She says in an interview with People Magazine:

“I did no gluten and no soy,” she said. “Once you remove soy, you realize you’re eating no processed foods. So that’s basically what I did. No processed foods and then working out.”

Which she eventually follows up with:

“ seems like, ‘Oh, that’s really easy to cut that out,’ but then you realize, there’s soy in everything,” she said. “Like, everything you eat, there is soy in it. Even if it’s healthy, Whole Foods-organic stuff, there’s always soy in it.”

“Just try no soy and no gluten and watch how hard that is,” she added.

If this is sustainable for any of you, then I fully suggest trying it.

However, we know the Nutrition Classes (Monks, Samurais, Vikings, Hunter Gatherers, Minimalists) in The Academy promote sustainability first and foremost, and revolve around goals and needs of each person, WHILE making the transformations happen.

But hey, Lively was still able to get in a well-versed diet. She states:

“I was still able to have sugar and all of those things. It’s all in moderation. You just have a balance of protein, carbs, and vegetables. And it wasn’t the worst. Like, I was eating rice and sushi.”


That’s something we can live with, right?

Blake Lively Workout Routine Research

We’ve already heard Blake Lively state that she worked out to get her killer physique in the interview with People Magazine.

Taking that a bit further, we have Cosmopolitan to help us this time.

Cosmo tells us:

Five to six days a week, Blake can spend anywhere from 30 to 75 minutes working out. The routine usually begins with foam-rolling, then five to seven minutes of mobility work. After that, she’s doing a variation on a jump, throw, carry, and doing that for three to five rounds.

Which they continue with the help from her train Don Saladino:

“That gets her body temperature up, that gets her really athletic, and it’s my way of doing an upper body, a lower body, and a core movement,” Saladino says. From there, the days get broken up into upper body, lower body, arms, and an interval day, with a mobility or accessory day after that.

And, another thing I really liked that was from the Cosmo article that I need to share is:

Even if life comes up — she has work, or she’s traveling — and she can’t work out, it’s not the end of the world. Blake hops on the elliptical for 10 minutes, and that’s enough to “put gasoline on the fire, the fire being her metabolism,” Saladino says. “Very rarely can someone get in day in and day out religiously and be perfect on a regimen. We’re showing you right now that you don’t have to be. Blake’s being realistic.”

This is something that’s incredible for people to here.

Blake Lively Celebrates 61-Pound Weight Loss With Realistic Instagram Post

Blake Lively has revealed the results of 14 months of working out with personal trainer Don Saladino in an Instagram post celebrating her 61-pound weight loss. The former Gossip Girl star gave birth to her second daughter Ines in September 2016, and has spent the interim period devising a sensible approach to losing the weight she gained during pregnancy.

Writing on Instagram she said: ‘Turns out you can’t lost the 61 lbs you gained during pregnancy just by scrolling through Instagram and wondering why you don’t look like all the bikini models. Thanks Don Saladino for kicking my A double S into shape. 10 months to gain, 14 months to lose. Feeling very proud.’

Lively has been outspoken in the past about the pressure on women when it comes to losing weight after giving birth. After the birth of her first daughter James in 2014, she hired two personal trainers and a nutritionist in order to lose weight for her thriller The Shallows, which was filmed just eight months after giving birth.

Speaking at the time she said: ‘I focused on training and eating well. It took two different trainers and a nutritionist to help me get into that sort of shape because it’s not normal to look like that eight months after having a kid.

‘Women put pressure on themselves to look like a Victoria’s Secret model after having a baby. It’s absolutely absurd. It was my job to look that way,’ she continued.
