Britney Spears Workout Routine: Week 2

It’s time to make the Britney Spears workout routine your own. Let’s take a deeper look at Britney’s workouts.

At-Home Cardio Workout

Britney Spears uses her at-home cardio workout when she doesn’t feel like leaving the house. She says:

Heading to my home gym to kick off the week right. I like my workouts to be effective in a short amount of time. I start with 20 minutes of intense cardio, usually running. then I move onto light weights; bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, squats and situps; then finish it off with a stretch.

Whether she’s busy with the kids, or just doesn’t want to make it out in public, it’s nice to have a method of doing cardio in your own home. On the final day of her workout journal, Britney showcases the utility of having an at-home cardio routine, saying:

I let myself sleep in this morning. the busy week and hot sun kind of took it out of me. Looking forward to the peacefulness of my workout.

If you don’t have a treadmill or other exercise machine, you can always use a workout DVD. Turbofire and Insanity are two of the most popular at-home cardio workouts for women.

Drenched Fitness: HIIT & Circuit Training

Drenched Fitness is a class Britney takes where they alternate every 15 minutes between HIIT cardio and circuit training. By switching the routine up every 15 minutes, it keeps the routine fun. Even if Britney isn’t feeling 100%, the group atmosphere often compels her to go.

Hit a wall this morning…I’m tired! But I powered through the class, and I feel great!

See the Britney Spears Workout here to learn how to do the HIIT and circuit training routine that she uses. Britney Spears talks about the benefits of going to a workout class. Being in a group atmosphere, it pushes you to work harder. Britney talks about her fitness class, saying:

I love this class. It’s high-energy and combines treadmill work with circuit training. Being in a group setting pushes me to work harder.

So, on the Drenched Fitness days listed above, Britney Spears does a HIIT & Circuit training workout.

Swimming: Britney Spears Workout Routine

Swimming is another key activity used in the Britney Spears workout routine. She likes to swim laps to keep track of her progress. Britney tends to swim for 30 minutes. Britney says:

Forty laps down! Swimming always gets my heart rate up.

Sometimes, she adds a Drenched Fitness class or hiking to her routine. Combining a day of swimming with hiking, Britney says:

Hitting the pool to get in my laps, then a hike in Malibu. The scenery makes the time go by quickly. I always forget what a great workout hiking is until i get home and my legs are sore!

Besides hiking, Britney recently went birthday horseback riding with new boyfriend Charlie Ebersol.

Britney Spears: Dance Rehearsals

Even if she’s on break from her live show in Las Vegas, Britney still puts time in doing dance rehearsals. This way she gets to work and work out at the same time. Britney loves dance workouts, and says:

Dancing is a great cardio workout–tough and fun at the same time.

Britney calls some of her dancers over to exercise along with her. By committing to group with her dancers, Britney has added workout motivation to exercise for the day:

We’re on a break from my Vegas show. I like to run through the choreography to keep it fresh in my mind.

Britney Spears: HIIT & Swimming Workout

When in California, Britney does a combined circuit training & swimming workout. For details on the circuit training routine, see the Britney Spears Workout. Doing a double routine of circuit training and swimming, Britney says:

Time to kick it into overdrive: two workouts today. I feel amazing. Swimming really relaxes me after doing that super-high energy workout at Drenched. I’m going to sleep well tonight!

“Switching up my workout routine in the gym as I get ready for my #PieceOfMe tour,” the singer captioned the video. Apparently, “switching up” means adding in butt exercises, and lots of them (with a some extra core work, of course).

In the video she does jump squats, single leg bicycle crunches on a BOSU ball, rapid lateral leg lifts, kettlebell swings, glute kickbacks with a resistance band, classic glute kickbacks, one-leg downward dog with some crunches, and then seated split stretches. (Phew!)

Brit’s been posting a lot of gym content these days, especially during her wildly successful Britney: Piece of Me Las Vegas residency. With all the complicated acrobatics involved on-stage, the 36-year-old clearly doesn’t skimp on gym time—although she did take a brief hiatus in January, telling her Instagram fans that “overdoing anything just isn’t good.”

But as she told Women’s Health in 2015, having two sons made it even more important to her to maintain a fitness routine: “After I had Jayden , it was real easy for me to get back in shape. But five years later, I started noticing changes in my body. My hips are a little bit wider because I’ve had kids. So it was crucial for me to be continuous with my exercise. Consistency is key.”

Britney Spears Breaks Down Her Summer Exercise Routine: ‘The Key to My Workout Is Repetition’

Britney Spears knows how to work!

The pop star shared a workout video to her Instagram on Monday, revealing to fans that she usually avoids cardio in favor of isolated, repetitive exercises.

“Hi guys, it’s such a beautiful day, I had to come out side and do a little workout. I wanted to share with all of you,” Spears, 37, says in the video, which then launches into the song “Booty” by Jennifer Lopez. The “Work Bitch” singer works on bicep curls, squats and shows off her impressive high kicks.

“I’ve been working really hard to loose weight …. and for me 3 pounds is like 7 pounds it’s a lot,” Spears wrote in her caption before further explaining her workout methodology.

“I don’t like doing too much cardio,” she added. “My body has muscle memory, cus I use it be gymnast and I can bulk up …. so I like isolated movement. The key to my workout is repetition, but that gets boring so I have a booklet I’ve made with all my favorite exercises. I usually wear headphones …. music takes me away .”

“I know I don’t look perfect here, but I’m working on it,” she concluded. “Hopefully one day I can give my boyfriend’s abs a run for their money !!!!”

Spears’ workout video comes a week after she accused paparazzi of altering photos to make her look “40 pounds bigger.”

“A lot of fans in our world today, they always are subject to really criticize people and say that the pictures and videos that they’re posting are either not on time or they’re fake. But no one ever really asks, ‘Are the paparazzi pictures fake, and do the paparazzi people do stuff to the pictures and is the news really real?’” the pop star said in a since-deleted video.

“It’s a conspiracy theory that I’m actually interested in,” she added. “Yesterday, I went swimming. I look like I’m 40 pounds bigger than I am today. This is how I am right now, and I’m skinny as a needle. You tell me, what is real?”

The images in question showed Spears on vacation with her boyfriend Sam Asghari in Miami, who commented on her post in support, writing, “The realest 💯 #lioness.”

Spears has been working on her health since checking out of an “all-encompassing wellness treatment” facility in April after spending several weeks there, according to sources close to the situation. She has been receiving outpatient therapy and has appeared in good spirits in her social media posts.

In the caption for one video posted at the end of May, Spears wrote that “after therapy and being too serious it’s so nice to be silly!!!!!” In another recent Instagram post, the mother of two said that she felt “blessed” while on a bike ride with Asghari, 25.

A source close to the Spears family told PEOPLE in May that they are concerned about her mental health.

“Britney is dealing with debilitating emotional issues that need to be treated with medications. It’s like she isn’t in control over her emotions right now,” the source told PEOPLE. “Everything is very up and down.”

By any measure, Britney Spears is a superstar. She’s performed at the Super Bowl, headlined a Vegas show, earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and sold 100 million albums and singles along the way. With her new album Glory due out later this month, we wanted to highlight some of her best songs for working out.

The list kicks off with the the track that launched her career and winds down with a recent collaboration with Iggy Azalea. In between, you’ll find signature hits like “Toxic,” her latest single “Make Me,” and a club-worthy remix of “I Wanna Go.” Lastly, we’ve included a couple of the rare times Britney’s guested on other folks’ records–like Will.I.Am’s “Scream and Shout” or the title track of Miley Cyrus Bangerz album. More than anything, the virtue in these songs is their kinetic energy. Put simply, Brit’s tunes make you want to move. Of all the workout music playlists I have ever shared, there is one artist I haven’t highlighted nearly enough: Britney Spears. Back in my running days, I had a Madonna-Britney hybrid playlist that I’d listen to a lot, and since that was lost with an old iPod that died, I recently created a new playlist that’s pure Britney. And it’s pure-fection.

At this point, I’ve only shared one other playlist that’s made up of a single artist—my Justin Timberlake Workout Playlist—so I’m continuing with that system today.

Britney Spears is just one of those artists who’s easy to workout to, because so much of her music is really upbeat and fun with a touch of sass. As a result, this playlist was pretty quick to make, though I had to weed out some randos that were not adding to my workout vibe.

I tried to include songs from all over her collection—yes, even from Baby One More Time. But there are definitely a few albums that I favored because they’re just perfect (i.e., Circus and Femme Fatale).

I hope you enjoy it! And if you don’t have a Spotify account to listen to the widget above, here’s a screenshot of all the songs I chose for the playlist.

Is there a musical artist you love working out to?

Jumping Jacks

Yes, that move you learned in elementary school! In addition to putting your respiratory system to work, Jumping Jacks help strengthen your muscles, especially the lower extremities.

Boxing strokes with dumbbells

The basis of this movement is to stretch and bend the arms as if trying to hit an object in front of you, just like you would in a boxing ring. To add difficulty, and therefore make more of your muscles work harder, pick up some dumbbells – preferably no more than two pounds each. In addition to working your arms and forearms, you are also strengthening and toning your shoulders.

Lateral leg lift

Standing and with your hand resting on a wall or barre, raise your leg to as close to a 90º angle as possible from the floor. To achieve maximum effectiveness with this exercise, always stay upright, look straight ahead and tighten your abdomen. Do this exercise enough and you will see the benefits in your in your quadriceps, buttocks, and the lower core area.

Sumo squats

These are a variant of squats but with legs apart. They are ideal for sculpting your buttocks and help define quadriceps and hamstrings. Britney uses a support barre for this one. Remember that your feet should point outward and the knees should never turn forward or bend beyond your feet.
