When Candace Cameron Bure, who’s now 40, first appeared on television, she was only a kid. Now that she’s starring in Fuller House and co-hosting The View, anyone with eyes can see she’s managed to stay in incredible shape, despite some bumps along the way. (Candace is super open about her history with disordered eating: She suffered from bulimia during her early 20s, but now considers herself fully recovered, and works to raise awareness about the condition.)

Now, the woman can easily outpace just about any twentysomething:

Influenced by her dad (a healthy eater) and Marilu Henner, actress and author of Total Health Makeover, Candace has always made nutrition a big part of her life. “I keep a fairly strict diet,” she said. “My job depends on it.”

Despite a hectic work and travel schedule — the actress bops between sets in New York and L.A. on the regular — Candace generally feels great about her body. “Like most women, I fuss about a few things I wish I could change,” she told Cosmopolitan.com of her figure. ” I am at my best weight and fitness level considering my lifestyle.”

Candace says she eats mostly vegan with the exception of egg whites, the occasional piece of fish, and situations where there are no vegan options. Instead of meats, she relies on nuts, seeds, beans, and whole grains like quinoa for protein. She also avoids dairy and swears the change cured her irritable stomach issues, reduced puffiness in her face and body, and cured her chronic congestion and cough.

Here’s how the actress maintains her enviable figure — and her health.


8 a.m.: Before I headed out for a 12-hour journey back to New York City from Hawaii (for a friend’s wedding), I made a Shakeology protein shake with half a banana and almond milk. No workout today, but the day definitely called for coffee, so I drank a cup of it with almond milk.

12:30 p.m.: Right before my flight took off, I ate an ahi poke bowl with brown rice and cabbage in coconut milk — it’s my favorite healthy lunch in Maui from a place called Coconuts. I planned ahead so I wouldn’t need to eat plane food, although I snacked on a banana and drank lots of water during the six-hour flight. When I fly, I always drink a ton of water — no alcohol — and limit my food intake, which makes me feel best when I land. Otherwise, my body reacts to salty food and alcohol by puffing up immediately.

9 p.m. (6 p.m. Hawaii time): I had a short layover in Los Angeles and ate dinner at an airport restaurant called Lemonade, where I got a kale salad with tomato, avocado, and quinoa. Back in the air, I slept all of 5.5 hours, drinking only water.


7 a.m.: When I landed, I headed straight to the set of The View, where I had a cup of coffee and my go-to Shakeology powder, banana, and almond milk shake.

12:30 p.m.: When I work on The View, I get to order lunch from a restaurant of my choice. Today, it was a kale salad with edamame, quinoa, and veggies, dressed with lemon and olive oil from Juice Press. I almost always order a salad, just mix it up with different restaurants and ingredients — sometimes sweet potatoes and steamed vegetables.

2 p.m.: Snack time! I went for a red apple.

3 p.m.: I ate half of a Nugo Slim vegan protein bar to gear up for a 90-minute workout with Kira Stokes, a trainer I’ve been working with for about six months.

I typically work out on my own for an hour at least five days a week, depending on my travel schedule, but when I work out with Kira, sessions can run up to two hours. She always incorporates a unique combination of functional movements, resistance training, and cardiovascular conditioning, using free weights, body weight, gliders, and portable equipment like jump rope, resistance bands, BOSU, and weighted balls.

10 a.m.: For a snack, I had two hard-boiled egg whites.

12:30 p.m.: I ordered a roasted vegetable salad with kale and sunflower seeds for lunch.

2:30 p.m.: Before my workout, I ate about 3 tablespoons of Sabra hummus with raw veggies. The hummus is a guestimate — I don’t actually measure any of my food.

3:30 p.m.: Another workout with Kira! (I try to see her three or four days a week when I’m in in New York City.) This session ran an hour.

5:15 p.m.: Because I was short on time and needed to catch my flight, I had a protein shake from the gym (made with almond milk, whey protein powder, about a teaspoon of almond butter, half a banana, and kale) on my way to the airport, and called it dinner.

Candace Cameron Bure agrees that she never felt so fit and amazing before. And she follows a strict diet to maintain the body that she loves. In an interview, she said, “When you’re hired to play a specific role and look a certain way, it’s something that you have to keep up with, especially being on a television series.” She is mostly on a vegan diet except for eggs and the occasional fish. Here’s Candace Cameron’s diet plan.

Candace also avoids dairy, and it helps reduce stomach inflammation, chronic cough, congestion, and puffiness in her face and body. If you think that you have stomach issues that may be triggered due to dairy consumption, cut off dairy from your diet for a few days and see if there’s any difference. Also, talk to your doctor before you conclude that the stomach issues are due to dairy products.

Candace Cameron-Bure shares tips for living a healthier life

The “Fuller House” star talks fitness motivation and working out on the go.

If you follow Candace Cameron-Bure on social media, chances are you’ve seen more than a few of the “Fuller House” star’s fitness posts. The actress is known to sneak in a workout whenever she can, even on set during a long day of filming. That’s because the wife and mother of three truly loves maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Cameron-Bure sat down with Fox News to discuss a few of her best fitness tips and tricks, which she writes about in her new Lifestyle book, “Staying Stylish,” including how she manages to stay fit even without a gym and what go-to healthy foods she eats to feel her best.


The busy actress says she started working out regularly during her 20s, but stopped when she had kids. Once she hit her 30s, she says, that’s when she really found the joy in exercise.

“I realized how much better my mindset is and my attitude when I put some exercise in because there are endorphins that are released that chemically actually make you a happier person. So fitness has become really important to me because I feel better from the inside out,” she said.

If you’re just starting your fitness journey or looking to live a healthier life, Cameron-Bure says your motivation has to come from within. And the easiest way to get started, she says, is just by moving. Even if you don’t have access to a gym or think you’re too busy to exercise, that’s no excuse. The actress says it’s all about priorities and finding small opportunities throughout the day.

“Even on days when I’m working very long hours, I can’t fit an hour long workout in, but I can fit in several 10-minute mini workouts. It’s not going to give me the same results as putting in the time every day but it still makes a difference. So if I can get in 10 push-ups here and there, do a couple squats while I’m waiting in line for something, that’s what I do. It will help change your body and it motivates you to make more time to work on your health and fitness,” she said.

When it comes to eating healthy, Cameron-Bure doesn’t consider herself much of a cook, but loves to prepare nutritious meals that are quick and easy. “My go-to is those frozen bags of riced cauliflower. Throw it in the pan and it either acts as rice or potato and then you can put whatever you want on top of it,” she said. She’s also a fan of salads loaded with veggies and protein.

2. Stay away from dairy, refined sugars, and white flours. Candace doesn’t suffer from food allergies, and she isn’t trying to lose weight. While she’s not a dietitian, she has her reasons for keeping these ingredients out of her diet: “They’re just not good for you, that’s why,” she says.

3. Eat carbs before you work out and eat protein after. On most days, Candace works out anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour on her own, but on rare occasions, like when she reunites with her longtime New York-based trainer, Kira Stokes, she’ll go at it for up to 2 1/2 hours. (Now that Candace is no longer hosting The View in New York City and spends most of her time in Los Angeles, this doesn’t happen super often.)

To keep her energy up during workouts, which might involve doing Kira’s online videos, using FaceTime to carry out a virtual training session, or performing dynamic, strength-training moves she picked up working out with Kira IRL, Candace eats grains or another source of carbs before she starts sweating. Afterward, she’ll reach for a protein-packed snack or meal to help her muscles recover.

4. Be boring. “I’ve always enjoyed food and used to get bored eating the same foods,” Candace says. But now that she’s older, has tried eating different foods, and is in tune with how her body reacts to them, she isn’t as interested in variety. “I have the things I know I like to eat, and I just kind of stay within those recipes,” she says. On most days, that means she’ll have a protein shake for breakfast and stick to tried-and-true restaurants, where she looks for familiar meals like quinoa with kale, beets, carrots, tofu, or tuna fish.

5. Stop eating before you’re stuffed — particularly when eating at restaurants. “If you listen to your stomach and just eat until you’re satisfied, not full, you can always take the rest of your food to go,” says Candace, who might dip into her leftovers hours later when actual hunger strikes again.

6. Find a partner who eats just as healthfully as you do. Candace says she and her husband eat very similar diets. While vastly different palates won’t make or break a strong relationship, it’s much easier to make healthy food choices when your partner prefers to eat healthy too — particularly when kids with different tastes come into play. “We’ll cook what we want to eat, and then we’ll make something different for the kids,” Candace explains.

7. Plate your home-cooked meals instead of feasting family style. Candace sees family meals as super important, so all five members of the Bure family dine together often. When dinner is served, it’s on individual plates, not platters, which takes the guesswork out of portion control — a good thing considering that the biggest difference between the way Candace and her husband eat comes down to serving sizes. (He eats more.)

8. Follow the rules 80 percent of the time. Rules: They’re meant to be broken up to 20 percent of the time, at least for Candace. “I don’t eat dairy on a regular basis, but a lot of baked goods contain butter or milk,” she notes. “To say I never have dessert would be a complete lie.”

And while Candace might not order a bacon cheeseburger off a restaurant menu, she’s more than happy to deviate from her diet rules when she’s a dinner party guest. “I would never turn anything down that someone’s cooked,” she says of meals she eats at others’ homes on special occasions. Staying healthy and fit is hard work, but Candace Cameron Bure maintains her toned physique with a mix of diet, exercise and smart decisions. The Fuller House star, 42, talked to Us Weekly about what it takes to stay healthy, and even shared a recipe that helps keep her in tip-top shape.

“It’s really a choice that you have to make if your health is important to you. I feel like this is simple information, but you have to be prepared. I think that’s the number one tip,” Cameron Bure said of eating healthfully. “You don’t ever want to be caught being hungry and in a situation where you’re going to reach for that bad choice or go through that drive-thru and them be tempted to make an unhealthy choice. If you want to eat healthier foods, there are wonderful things out there that can help you, along with fresh vegetables and fresh fruits.”

In addition to fresh fruits and veggies, Cameron Bure, who has been a spokesperson for StarKist for more than a year, also relies on the company’s line of fish and now chicken pouches.

“If you want the convenience and you want it easy, and you can have it with you, something like the StarKist pouches are wonderful for that because you can keep it in your purse and then when you get hungry you’re not like, ‘Oh man, I’m just going to go through the drive-thru because I don’t have anything with me,’” she explains.

Aside from being good on-the-go, StarKist pouches can also be used to whip up easy meals or snacks at home, such as the chicken salad cucumber boat recipe below. “All of the chicken creations are wonderful right out of the pouch, which is how I eat them the majority of the time, but if I want a little extra crunch it’s fun to put it inside of a cucumber,” the former cohost of The View tells Us. “You can just scoop some of the meat of the cucumber out and put the chicken in there, or you can do it on celery also because that’s really firm. It’s just another texture that you can add to your food and get some vegetables in there.”

For Cameron Bure, this veggie-packed dish fits perfectly with her lifestyle. “That’s the majority of my diet,” she says. “The way I eat is I’m very vegetable-heavy, and so that’s just another way I get to eat my veggies and get my protein.”

• 2, 2.5 oz pouches StarKist Chicken Creations Chicken Salad
• 1 English cucumber, cut in three sections and halved

Candace Cameron Bure doesn’t let body-shamers get away with nasty remarks.

The “Fuller House” star, 42, shut down an internet troll who left a rude comment about her weight next to an Instagram photo of herself and her 18-year-old son, Lev.

“All that excercising (sic) and you still look like you weigh more than your husband, did you change your diet?” the commenter wrote, apparently mistaking Lev for his father, retired hockey pro Valeri Bure, 43.

The actress shot back, “If a 25 inch waist looks big to you … then you’re looking through an altered lens,” before adding, “Be well.”

The initial comment is all the more offensive considering that Bure has opened up about her past struggles with bulimia.

In May 2016, while participating in an Eating Recovery Day panel in New York City, the actress revealed she was once stuck in a years-long cycle of bingeing and purging. As a newlywed with her first child on the way, she’d relocated in Montreal to be with her husband. But the athlete often traveled during the hockey season. Feeling lonely and isolated, she sought comfort in food.
