The keto diet may be all about the fat, but that doesn’t mean protein doesn’t play an important role too. Too much of it, and you’re no longer in ketosis. Too little of it, and you risk losing important muscle mass. So while you’re busy cooking everything in butter, don’t forget that 15 to 30 percent of your calories should be coming from a protein source. And what’s one of the most popular, accessible, and easy-to-cook proteins available? Chicken, of course.

The juicy chicken patty is one thing. But what really takes these burgers over the top is the fried cabbage (lettuce is way too blah) and the whipped tomato butter, which serves as the low-sugar, high-fat, and totally mouthwatering keto answer to ketchup.
18. Gluten-Free Macadamia Nut Chicken Thighs
When breading your chicken isn’t an option on a low-carb diet, dredge the meat in a combination of egg and crushed macadamia nuts instead. You’ll get a super-crunchy coating, and as if that isn’t enough, a drizzle of butter over the top gives it a golden-brown crust and makes it taste even better.

Smothered chicken topped with a ranch cream cheese mixture, cheddar, crispy fried bacon, and green onions. It doesn’t get tastier than this cheesy chicken recipe!
Have you guys noticed a trend when it comes to chicken recipes here?
They basically all involve cheese and many involve bacon.
The truth is that I’ve not always been the biggest fan of chicken, but lately I’m just obsessed with it. We eat some version of low carb chicken multiple nights a week these days and it’s almost always a hit with everyone in my family.
This keto chicken recipe is pretty fantastic – super low in carbs, extra fat from the cheese and bacon, and enough protein to keep you full.
Oh, and don’t worry – I didn’t just sprinkle some cheddar on a chicken breast here. I added ranch seasoning to cream cheese, smeared that on some chicken, and THEN added the cheddar.
This is keto. We need fat and flavor. 😉
How to make ranch chicken smothered in cheese:
To start, we’re going to season up some chicken breasts. I used paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder, but you can use any seasoning blend you think sounds good.
Just remember not to add too much salt as the cheesy topping is a bit salty on it’s own, plus we’re adding bacon down the road.
Once your chicken breasts are covered in seasoning, heat up a skillet and swirl in some avocado oil.
Add your chicken breasts and let them brown on each side. This dish will be finished in the oven, so no need to fully cook the chicken. Just get a nice browned outside.
While the chicken is browning, stir together some room temperature cream cheese and ranch seasoning mix. The ranch seasoning mix isn’t strictly keto as it contains a few questionable ingredients. If you’re strict keto, use the dry seasonings/herbs from my recipe for ranch dressing, mix them together, and measure out 1 tablespoon for use in this recipe. Store the rest for use in my low carb crackers!
Smear the ranch cream cheese mixture evenly over the tops of the chicken breasts and then pile on some freshly shredded cheddar cheese.
It seriously looks so good at this stage, right?
Pop all this in a hot oven and let it finish cooking. This should take about 10 minutes, but you’ll want to use a meat thermometer to test for doneness. This is the one I use and recommend. When the chicken is cooked through, the cheese will be perfectly melted and you’ll be ready to top your cheese smothered chicken with some freshly fried bacon and chopped green onions.
This dish has such a pretty presentation, doesn’t it? Who wouldn’t want to dive right in to that cheesy chicken??

- 4 chicken breasts about 6 ounces each
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil
- 6 ounces cream cheese room temperature
- 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning powder
- 1 cup grated cheddar
- 10 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Mix together onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika and sprinkle evenly over chicken. Rub to coat chicken in seasoning blend.
- Heat oil in a large heavy bottomed, oven safe skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chicken to the skillet and cook for 4 minutes on each side or until nicely browned.
- As chicken is cooking, stir together the cream cheese and ranch seasoning in a small bowl until well combined.
- Carefully spread the cream cheese mixture over each piece of chicken.
- Top with the shredded cheese.
- Place pan in the oven and bake until chicken is fully cooked, about 10 minutes.
- Top with the crumbled bacon and green onions just before serving.

And finding delicious low carb chicken recipes that you’re actually excited to eat throughout the week can prove to be even harder. This is why we’re here to share one of the most delicious low carb chicken recipes we’ve ever had the pleasure of making. This keto chicken fajita recipe can be prepped and served for a family dinner, or meal prepped to be enjoyed all week long. The options are endless. Let’s get into it:
Keto Chicken Fajita Ingredients
The base of this recipe (and the true star of the show) is our homemade fajita seasoning that we used to season both the chicken and the peppers. We love this fajita seasoning because it doesn’t pack any fillers that so many store-bought seasoning mixes have and gives everything you make with it that savory fajita flavor. It’s a combination of:
- Chili powder
- Ground cumin
- Garlic powder
- Ground pepper
- Dash of salt
We usually mix up a big batch of this seasoning to keep on hand when the fajita mood strikes (which is quite often at our house!).
As for other ingredients, this recipe is packed with the most delicious crispy cilantro lime cauliflower rice. By cooking this at 400ºF, you’ll get that crispy golden brown cauliflower rice. And seasoned with cilantro and lime, it’s the perfect addition to this keto chicken fajita recipe.
Last but not least, this avocado spread is LIFE CHANGING (and keto, my friends!). Seriously, we’re topping pretty much every meal that’s coming out of the FFF Kitchen with a nice little dollop of this. Avocado + cilantro + avocado oil + minced garlic, ya can’t go wrong!

Cilantro Lime Cauliflower Rice
- 16 oz. bag uncooked riced cauliflower
- 3 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, minced
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 16 oz. boneless skinless chicken breast

- First, preheat oven to 400ºF and place cauliflower rice onto a baking sheet. Drizzle olive oil and spices over cauliflower rice and mix well.

- Remove from oven, toss, and roast for 15 more minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and season with cilantro and lime juice. Set aside.
- Sprinkle about 1.5 teaspoons of fajita seasoning evenly over chicken. Use your hands to make sure seasoning is rubbed into the chicken. You will have leftover fajita seasoning to use for cooking. Set aside for about 20 minutes.
- Heat a large skillet over medium/high heat. Add olive oil.
- Thinly slice chicken into strips. When olive oil is fragrant, place chicken into the pan. Sautee every couple minutes until chicken is cooked through (8-10 minutes). Then, add remaining fajita seasoning and give the chicken one last stir. Remove from heat and place chicken into a separate bowl.
- Place the same skillet pan back onto the stove and add olive oil for the peppers. Scrape the little bits of fond off the sides of the pan. When olive oil is fragrant, add peppers and onion into the pan and sprinkle on fajita seasoning.
- Toss peppers and onions together and let cook over medium/high heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Then, add two tablespoons of water to the pan, stir, and cover. Let cook for 5 minutes to finish up the peppers!
- Evenly distribute chicken, peppers, and cauliflower rice into four bowls or meal prep containers.
- Top with Avocado Spread and a squeeze of lime juice when ready to eat.
- This recipe calls for 3 tablespoons of fajita seasoning. Option to sub whatever fajita seasoning you like.

Alright folks, if you are going to cook with boneless and skinless chicken breasts, you better to prepared to add lots of flavor and know exactly how to cook it. I have many recipes for healthy chicken breasts on my site, the key is to either pound them thin, buy butterflied chicken breasts, or better yet, ask the butcher behind te meat counter to pound the chicken breast thin for you.
I mention the last one on my FlavCity YouTube channel often, and people say, “who has a butcher these days”, people..I am not talking about the neighborhood butcher from back in the 1950’s, the person who stands behind the meat counter at the grocery store is a butcher! They would be more than happy to hook you up and pound your chicken breasts thin for you. The advantage of doing this, is that the chicken will cook evenly and mic quicker that a big fat bones skinless chicken breast will.

Easy Chicken Breast Recipes
All of my recipes on this blog as easy, but especially the recipes for chicken breasts. It all starts with buying chicken that is pounded thin and then adding a flavorful marinade. I usually opt for dry marinades using spices, they add insane amounts of flavor without adding any fat. Wet marinades are messy and take time, plus it’s hard for the chicken to get really crusty while cooking because the chicken is wet.
Making a flavorful spice rub for chicken breasts is easy, like the fennel spice rub used for this recipe. Just combine fennel powder, onion powder, and garlic powder..bam, you have a supercharged spice rub that will add loads of flavor to the chicken breasts.
How To Cook A Chicken Breast
Follow my simple rules for cooking chicken breasts and I ca guarantee juicy, crusty, flavorful chicken every single time!
#1 Allow the chicken to come to room temperature with the spice rub on before cooking it. Cold chicken breast in a hot pan or oven will cook unevenly and be tough. Your chicken has to get the chill off and while it;s coming to temperature, the dry rub marinade is infusing flavor, it’s a win win.
#2 Make sure your pan, ideally cast iron, is pre-heated. I love cast iron, if it was good enough for grandma it is good enough for me! A soon as the chicken hits the pan, you want it to sizzle so the crust ca start to form. Pre-heat the pan for 2 minutes over medium-high heat, add some oil, wait 30 seconds so it can heat up, and then add the chicken. Once the chicken goes down, don’t touch it until it;s time to flip, otherwise you will disturb to searing process and ruin the crust.
#3 Once the chicken is coked and out of the pan, allow it to rest for 5 minutes before cutting into it. The juices inside are boiling, if you cut right away, all the juices will pour out and the chicken will get dry. You can cover the chicken with tin foil to help it stay warm.
Creamed Spinach Recipe

I wanted to keep the entire recipe dairy free, so I decided to cook the spinach with coconut cream and coconut milk. But don’t worry the creamed spinach does not taste like a pina colada, it is very savory thanks to the crispy bacon and sauteed mushrooms. I have served this creamed spinach to man people, and they can’t even tell that it’s dairy free.

Keto Chicken Salad
Keto chicken salad is a favorite for lunch in our house, whether it’s eaten with a fork, in a lettuce wrap, or spooned on top of sliced cucumber. I load this chicken salad recipe up with all kinds of goodies so that every bite has loads of flavor and texture.
When the sun finally starts peaking out and the weather finally starts warming up, I immediately start thinking of lazy summer days and firing up the grill.
Summer food is the best food, if you ask me!
In our house, we do a lot of simple lunches, especially during the hot summer months when we don’t want to mess with the oven or leave the pool.
This low carb chicken salad is a summer staple for us, but we do eat it all year long. It’s hard to resist since I load it up with all kinds of goodies.
Chicken Salad Ingredients:
This keto chicken salad is absolutely packed with all of my favorite things! I like lots of flavor and texture in my chicken salad.
You’ll need shredded chicken, mayonnaise, mustard, hard boiled eggs, dill pickles, minced onion, chopped pecans, fresh dill, vinegar and salt and pepper.
Feel free to sub in sunflower seeds or sliced almonds for the pecans.
You may use dill relish in place of chopped pickles, but check for hidden sugars as a lot of relish contains sugar.
How to make chicken salad:
We often start with a rotisserie chicken from the store to keep it really easy, but if you have an Instant Pot (affiliate link), it works perfect for cooking chicken to shred.
Just pop in a couple pounds of chicken breasts or thighs with a cup of broth and use the poultry setting for 15 minutes. I always do a full natural release to ensure the meat is tender. It seems to get tough if you quick release.
You can also throw your chicken in a slow cooker and cook it on low for around 3 hours and then shred it with a couple of forks.
Let your chicken cool completely before mixing together your chicken salad.
Stir together the mayonnaise, mustard, pickles, pecans, onion, dill, and vinegar and then toss in the shredded chicken.
Give it a taste and add salt and pepper as needed.
This tastes best after it’s had at least an hour to chill out in the fridge, but you can eat it right away if you’re in a hurry.
Store tightly covered for 3-5 days.
Low carb chicken salad:
Everything in this chicken salad recipe is low carb, but traditionally chicken salad is served between bread.
You could try your hand at this low carb bread recipe or, if you’re not strictly keto, you can check out some of the lower carb breads available at the grocery store. Healthy Life is a brand that’s widely available and has around 6 net carbs per slice, depending on the variety you choose.
Low carb tortillas make a great wrap.
I usually choose to serve my keto chicken salad in a lettuce wrap. Both romaine hearts and butter lettuce work well – romaine is crunchy and butter lettuce is soft. Choose whichever texture you prefer.
I’ve also cut a cucumber in 1/4 thick rounds and spooned a little chicken salad on top. It’s delicious and adds great crunch.

- 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
- 2 boiled eggs, chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped dill pickles
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
