I ate like Gigi Hadid for a week — and it didn’t exactly feel like a typical model diet

Gigi Hadid is famous for her modeling, social media presence, and laid-back persona. The blonde Los Angeles-native is known for her athletic abilities — Hadid played volleyball and rode horses growing up, now opting for boxing to stay in shape — and her accessible, healthy diet. Hadid told Harper’s Bazaar that her mantra is “Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane.” I decided to try out her diet for seven days after returning from a few weeks of traveling to see if the Gigi Detox would give me model looks and several inches in height. Probably not, but why not try?

I took a look around the internet trying to get more specific examples of what Gigi eats. It looked pretty simple: eggs, toast, salad — basically clean eating. She likes to fit a burger in here and there – so while I’m eating like her, I don’t eat meat, so I’ll replace a burger with a Beyond Meat patty one night. (Which tastes and looks the same, basically.)

So let’s give this a try.

Day one was a lot of guesswork.

Luckily, Gigi’s diet includes coffee. Tristan Fewings/Stringer/Getty Images

Day one, I got this. For breakfast I decided to make two eggs and coffee for breakfast, just like Gigi does. I hoped the first meal wasn’t an indication of how the rest of the week would go: the second egg I cracked had blood in it. I threw that out, cracked another, and scrambled them right up. I was not feeling supermodel-esque quite yet but maybe I was on my way.

There wasn’t that much food around after getting home around 1:30 a.m. from my travels, but luckily, found some stuff in the freezer: Morning Star chipotle black bean veggie burger and Trader Joe’s mashed cauliflower. That was … pretty clean, right? It’s just vegetables.

I went to go see “I Feel Pretty” with a friend, so after I got my ticket, I stopped by Sweetgreen to grab my favorite salad there that I think would be Gigi-approved: the Harvest Bowl. It has wild rice, kale, sweet potato, almonds, apples, goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette. It also comes with chicken, but I subbed in tofu instead. Gigi apparently loves tea thanks to her British (ex?) boyfriend Zayn Malik, so I also got an iced chai tea to wash it down.

Day two started out with some protein.

Gigi’s diet includes carbs. kennymatic/Flickr

I wasn’t in the mood for eggs this morning, and since Gigi eats toast with her breakfast, I figure homegirl is down with carbs. I made a Kodiak Cakes Power Cake pancake, which has 14 grams of protein per serving. I’m not powering to box and do ab work like Gigi does, but a healthy heap of protein isn’t a bad thing. A mug of coffee with a splash of unsweetened almond milk topped off the meal. I was definitely full for a while, and imagine a similar protein-packed breakfast would get me through a Gigi Hadid morning.

Because I went straight to the movies and picked up a sweetgreen salad last night, I didn’t have a chance to stop by the grocery store. I had the same lunch as yesterday. It filled me up fine and wasn’t much to talk about – apparently like the majority of Gigi’s meals. Most of this is guesswork.

I did indeed run to Trader Joe’s after my physical therapy appointment, got some good and healthy food. For dinner, I ate their microwavable salmon and orzo. It was too late to actually cook something, but the lean protein from the fish and carbs seemed like a sufficient way to complete the day.

On day three, I went for Gigi’s favorite lunch.

Lunch was an arugula salad. Brendan Hoffman/Getty

I woke up and craved the Kodiak pancake again and had the ingredients, so I went for it. This time, I had some fresh fruit to eat on the side, so I cut up some fresh strawberries and ate those. My regular cup of coffee and some almond milk accompanied the meal.

Gigi has said she eats an arugula salad for lunch, so that’s what I made. Mine had arugula, smoked salmon, cherry tomatoes, a little bit of parmesan cheese, olive oil, and peach balsamic vinegar. A few hours after lunch, I had a Babybel light cheese as a snack. I don’t know if Gigi eats dairy on the reg, but I was too hungry to run out to buy carrots and hummus, a snack she does in fact eat.

Once again, lazy. Whoops. Ate the Trader Joe’s cod with ratatouille and rice. It was really good. Try it if you haven’t. For dessert, I had some of the Trader Joe’s Milk Chocolate Lover Bar. I can’t help it – gotta have some chocolate, even when I’m trying to eat like a supermodel.

On Day four, I went for some ice cream, just like Gigi.

Gigi enjoys ice cream and McDonald’s. Flickr/LWYang

I ate the same breakfast again, because it feels decadent but is healthy at the same time. Also, a pancake is the perfect accompaniment to watching Real Housewives of New York City. (Even though Gigi’s mom, Yolanda, was on the Beverly Hills franchise of the show, I still feel it’s appropriate to mention.)

Lunch was yet again an arugula salad.

I went to see a screening of “Eighth Grade” with a friend in Philly, and after the movie, we hit up my favorite fast-casual in the City of Brotherly Love: vegan Middle-Eastern eatery Goldie. They were out of the falafel pita sandwich, so I got the salad instead. I had to get the Turkish coffee tehina milkshake because that drink is the best milkshake I’ve had in my life, and Gigi has talked about her ice cream love anyways. I shared shawarma spice fries with my friend Alana. Gigi has made her love of McDonald’s known, so that definitely justifies my fast-food meal, right?.

Day five consisted of more toast and fast food.

Chipotle seemed like it fit into Gigi’s diet. Hollis Johnson

For the first time since I can remember, I slept until 11 a.m. This is practically unheard of for me. Anyway, I made what I guess would be brunch due to the time: a toasted whole wheat bagel thin with a slice of provolone cheese and smoked salmon, and a sliced honeycrisp apple on the side. Went with French vanilla coffee this morning with my Trader Joe’s unsweetened almond milk, of course.

I’m Chipotle trash and needed to get some sofritas ASAP. Had my usual order which I think would be okay? Except for the fact that there’s probably a bunch of added oil and sodium that wouldn’t fly with Gigi? (But remember, she eats McDonald’s, so I don’t feel that guilty.) Anyway. Got a salad with sofritas, brown rice, fajita veggies, tomato salsa, corn salsa, tomatillo-green chili salsa (I like salsa), extra lettuce, and cheese. For dessert I had a few coffee chew things from Trader Joe’s.

On Day six, I ate some of Gigi’s favorite snacks

Gigi snacks on fruit so I did, too. Carsten Koall/Getty Images

For breakfast, I had Kodiak pancake, banana, a drizzle of sugar-free syrup, and French press coffee with a bit of almond milk.

Had the Morningstar Farms Chipotle black bean burger and some Trader Joe’s mashed cauliflower again. I also ate apple slices with Trader Joe’s natural peanut butter a couple hours later. I know Gigi stocks up on fruit as a snack, so that seemed on par with the model’s diet.

After physical therapy, I was so hungry. At Trader Joe’s a few days prior, I saw these frozen cooked carrot spirals that seemed similar in idea to zucchini noodles, so I picked them up. I tried the coodles (if “zoodles” can be a thing, so can “coodles”) with plain marinara sauce, Trader Joe’s beefless ground beef, and a little bit of freshly shaved parmesan. Ate a few of the coffee chews for dessert.

Day seven had me eating Gigi’s favorite: a “burger.”

On Gigi’s diet, I was also able to eat my own version of a cheeseburger. Nicholas LeRoy/

Today was more of the same: the same breakfast with no French press coffee. For lunch, I had leftovers of exactly what I had for dinner last night.

Gigi has talked about her love of cheeseburgers, so I decided to make a Beyond Meat burger in her honor. The patty is almost identical to a meat one, and tastes just like it, too (I stopped eating meat in April 2017). I sandwiched the patty between a whole wheat sandwich thin and placed a slice of cheddar cheese on top.

On Day eight, I tried to eat as many of her favorites as possible.

I stopped at Starbucks on my way into the office for a late start (I usually work at home and start earlier!), and had a banana, yogurt parfait with granola, and a tall iced coffee with a bit of soy milk (almond milk is extra, so no thank you). I wondered what Gigi would order at Starbucks, and tried to do something similar. In all reality, she probably would just get fruit. A few hours later, I had carrots and hummus for a snack. Still didn’t feel like a model.

I hit up the restaurant Bite in the Flatiron district for a vegan Mediterranean salad with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, roasted eggplant, hummus, pine nuts, and a side of pita. Drank a Diet Coke. Or Two. A girl’s gotta caffeinate.

My friend Sarah made me dinner tonight: cooked salmon with lemon, boiled potatoes, and cucumber and tomato salad. Fish and vegetables seemed like a healthy enough way to round up a week of eating/attempting to eat like Gigi.

Eating like Gigi was flexible and not too different from what I normally eat.

The diet wasn’t too difficult — but I got sick of arugula.

Eating like Gigi doesn’t feel too different from how I normally eat, but I couldn’t quite track down her normal, go-to dinner so that was more of a guess on my end. I probably ate more chocolate and dairy than she would, but can’t stop those cravings and you gotta live, you know? Her regular breakfast of toast and eggs was doable enough, but I don’t like to eat the same thing for a week straight, so I had to adjust that a little bit to get some variety.

As for lunch, I would hate having an arugula salad every single day. I love salad – don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you gotta through in some more carbs than that.

I imagine what she eats for dinner is probably a lean cut of chicken or fish with steamed vegetables. Her mentioning eating sushi and cheeseburgers is more likely the exception to her standard than the regular, which was fine for me because I don’t eat sushi or cheeseburgers every night anyway

While I definitely enjoyed trying to resemble Gigi Hadid – I’m not blonde nor skinny nor incredibly famous – I’ll leave the clean eating to the model, and happily take my cheese and chocolate instead.

What is Gigi Hadid’s most spellbinding feature? Though some may say it’s her tousled blonde waves or baby face, the American supermodel and Vogue’s August cover star may own the best abs in the business—which are perennially on display in crop tops and low-slung denim. But, it turns out, the secret to that supernaturally toned core is rather quotidian—something that anyone can achieve.

“It’s all about how hard you work and how much you put in—Gigi is a hard worker,” says Rob Piela, owner of New York’s Gotham Gym and Gotham G-Box, who began training Hadid two and a half years ago. A typical session will see the model switch back and forth between cardio-friendly boxing and strenuous floor work to keep her core engaged through a total-body workout, a routine that she returns to week after week without fail. “Staying fit is all about consistency,” he says. “Don’t miss workout days; don’t get lazy in the winter.”

For those seeking a Hadid-ian core, Piela suggests careful ab work four days a week—planks to work the deeper muscles, crunches for that visible six-pack, and leg raises to target the lower abdominals. “The combination of those three moves is golden,” he says, adding that eating well and avoiding sugar are equally key. Below, Piela breaks down a Hadid-approved core workout—for Insta-famous abs, in no time.

Gigi Hadid’s Core-Focused Workout
1. Warm up the core with 10 minutes of boxing.
2. Perform three sets of 40 crunches each.
3. Raise your heart rate with 10 minutes of boxing.
4. Perform three sets of 40 bicycle crunches each, kicking each leg out once per bicycle.
5. Box for another 10 minutes.
6. Take a plank pose to hit the transverse abdominals, holding for about 60 seconds, or as long as you can maintain good form (abs tight, no sway in the back, and the neck in a neutral position).
7. Super-set straight into leg raises to hit the lower abdominals, performing four sets of 25 leg raises each.

If anyone knows a thing or two about being on the move, it’s Gigi Hadid. The Victoria’s Secret model and covergirl has had a whirlwind past few months, hitting catwalks and photo shoots from Europe to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. Our biggest question: How does the Reebok spokeswoman find the time to keep up with her fitness routine? If you’ve ever tried to squeeze in your regular workouts when you’re traveling, you know it takes a lot of strategic planning—and even then, sometimes it’s too tough to make it work.

For Hadid, sticking to her routine between jet-setting is made possible in part by the constant support from her trainer Rob Piela, owner of Gotham Gym. “It’s fairly easy to let a busy schedule derail your normal workout routine,” Piela tells SELF. “We FaceTime when she’s on the road. The motivation and support, no matter where she may be, is critical.”

Another key? Making the most of whatever time and space she has. “A full-service gym or an instructor isn’t always needed to accomplish a workout regardless of location or space.” Not everyone can afford a personal trainer who’s on call whenever you need a boost of motivation (if only!), but we can all relate to those situations where space to work out is limited.

Here, Piela shares an example of a workout that Hadid could do on the road in her hotel room. The best part? There’s absolutely no equipment required. Snag yourself a little space to get sweaty, and get to work.

Here’s how the workout is set up:

Warm-up

Do 2 sets of the below moves without rest to get your core temperature up, muscles loose, and heart racing.

  • Jumping Jacks — 25 reps
  • High Knees — 25 reps
  • Bodyweight Squats — 10 reps
  • Alternating Forward Lunges — 20 reps

The workout

Do 2 sets of the following moves, without resting in between.

  • Push-ups — 10 reps
  • Tricep Dips — 10 reps
  • Sit-ups — 10 reps
  • Wall Sits — 30 seconds
  • Squat Jumps — 15 reps
  • Single-Leg Calf Raises — 15 reps

Cardio and core finisher

Do 1 set without rest.

  • Mountain climbers — 30 seconds
  • Burpees — 30 seconds
  • Plank — 30 seconds
  • V-ups — 30 seconds

Here’s how to do the moves:

This Is What Gigi Hadid Eats Every Day (Including the Guilty Snack She Can’t Live Without)

The supermodel’s diet keeps her looking amazing. | Daniel Leal-Olivas/Getty Images

Gigi Hadid — Taylor Swift squad member, awesome sister, former Zayn Malik companion — takes her life as a model pretty seriously. She makes sure to eat well while still enjoying something sweet (page 7). Manhattan is full of cafes catering to all tastes, and she’s no stranger to a select few. You can’t look good without living a little.

What this supermodel eats in a typical day probably isn’t what you’re expecting. In fact, it might seem a little too familiar.

Scrambled eggs and toast

When she eats breakfast out, Hadid heads to her favorite Manhattan cafe, The Smile. She’ll almost always order scrambled eggs and toast with coffee or orange juice. When she’s at home, she often recreates the meal herself.

Next: She allows herself an extra treat if she eats this meal out.

Bacon

Yep, it’s true. | Villagemoon/iStock/Getty Images

Any restaurant you sit down in during the breakfast rush offers plates and platters full of more main dishes and sides than you’d typically make at home. Along with her eggs and toast, Hadid can’t say no to the side of bacon that comes with her favorite breakfast order at The Smile.

Next: Sometimes, there’s a little something extra on the breakfast table.

Breakfast beans

Her boyfriend Zayn used to cook breakfast, and when that happened, breakfast beans were almost always on the menu. Part of a typical full English breakfast, beans are a great food to eat in the morning if you want to stay full until lunchtime.

Next: This is the best kind of food philosophy.

A burger …

This American favorite is one of her go-to lunches. | AzriSuratmin/istock/Getty Images

Hadid usually chooses one of two “usuals” when eating out for lunch. Sometimes, she can’t resist the urge to eat a simple hamburger. She told Harper’s Bazaar, “My personal motto is: ‘Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane.’”

Next: Her second choice is a bit cleaner.

… or an arugula salad

This healthy option is another one of her favorites. iStock.com

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a good burger. But Hadid does have to watch what she eats if she wants to maintain the figure that fits her profession. If it’s a “clean eating” day, Hadid heads back to The Smile and orders an arugula salad.

Next: Eating dinner out can actually be (sort of) healthy, at least in her case.

Sushi

Hadid prefers to cook at home — not a terrible way to live — but she does dine out in the evenings on occasion. When she does, she almost always goes straight for the sushi. Fish won’t hurt you, even if it’s raw and prepared properly. It even has health benefits.

Next: She absolutely cannot live without her go-to snack.

What about that snack she loves so much?

Who can resist a nice bow of ice cream? | FotoCuisinette/iStock/Getty Images

Yes, even Gigi Hadid apparently can’t live without ice cream (can you blame her?). If she’s in need of a sugar-loaded snack, she heads to Emack & Bolio’s, her favorite place to get ice cream. Desserts aren’t off-limits for her, so that definitely means we’re allowed to have them too, right?

“I help them to understand that they are where they are today in relation to their overall health because of the lifestyle they are engaging in,” he explained.

“I’ll put some individuals on a strict type of a, if you want to say, diet, to get faster results initially, but what it’s really about is teaching them how to change their lifestyle into a lifestyle that allows them to maintain the goals that they’re trying to achieve, whether it’s sleeping better, or weight, exercising and hydrating.”

For Bella, this means adopting a high-protein, low carb eating regime to help her stay lean and full of energy.

“It’s adequate protein, adequate fat and lots and lots and lots of non-starchy vegetables. That is typically the most bulletproof, easiest, soundproof way to make sure that somebody stays on track.”

Sure, chowing down on broccoli and kale all day sounds super boring. But there’s a method behind all this madness.

“If you eat a lot of carbohydrates, with your protein and your fat, the body’s going to use the carbohydrates for fuel first,” Passler said.

“The body loves using carbs for fuel. So, the body’s going to soak up all of those carbs and if then you don’t need any more fuel, the body’s going to just turn the extra calories from the fat and the protein into fat. So, by eliminating the carbohydrates, and consuming the protein and the fat, it not only keeps your calories down, but it keeps your energy stable.”

And contrary to what the countless pics of pizza on her Insta account would have you believe, Bella isn’t one for indulging – like, ever.

“You’re just a person that does not drink soda – I don’t care if you’re at a birthday party, and that’s all they have, then don’t drink anything. I don’t care if you’re the person that loves pizza, well, just minimise the pizza intake or minimise the refined sugar intake,” Passler continued. “In order for somebody to be consistently healthy, the biggest key is to engage in a lifestyle that allows you to own that permanently.”

There’s no denying the girl looks good, but clearly, it comes at a price.

Gigi Hadid clapped back impressively at internet trolls who call her too skinny and has been candid about a struggle with Hashimoto’s disease that has caused her to lose weight, but even so, the supermodel admits she’s not immune to the criticism – and that certain things affect her more than others.

“I loved my body when I was curvier,” Hadid, 23, told Vogue Runway Director Nicole Phelps during a panel alongside Kendall Jenner, Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser. “Then as I lost , people were still mean.”

She continued by saying, “Yeah, I know I’m skinny. I’m looking in the mirror. I’m trying to eat burgers and do squats. I want an ass too. I get it. I got it. Thank you!”

It’s not the first time she’s spoken about about her changing body. In April, she spoke to Blake Lively for Harper’s Bazaar, saying, “If I could choose, I would have my ass back and I would have the t–s I had a few years ago. But, honestly, we can’t look back with regret. I loved my body then, and I love my body now.” She has also been candid about encouraging body acceptance, saying, “It’s just about everyone accepting their body as it matures and knowing that it’s not always going to look the same and you can love yourself in all different sizes.” (Her little sister, Bella Hadid, has also been open about wanting to keep her curves.)

Gigi also spoke about the #MeToo movement in the modeling industry during the discussion, and whether she feels pressure to strip down to nothing for a shot. “Some people are empowered and excited to be naked and that is amazing. And I wish I was one of those people and I am not one of those people. And I’ve accepted that about myself and that is okay,” Hadid said.

She added, “There are times where I feel like I am excited about a photographer or a creative situation where I will do this or will do that. But there’s also times where I can be – even though I am so excited for everyone and feel so happy with their empowerment being naked themselves – it’s okay that I feel differently.”

Graham, a body positive activist and vocal model in the industry, does think she’s seen the way models are treated improve since #MeToo.

“A lot has changed and I think that people are much more mindful of where you’re changing, if you’re naked on set that everything is very closed off and that you feel comfortable,” she said.

However, Graham does think not everyone completely understand what the movement actually means.

“I’ve had people on set try to brush my hair and then say, ‘Oh I don’t want to #MeToo you,’” she said. “First of all that is so insensitive, it’s awkward. Also you don’t know the person you’re brushing their hair what they’ve been through and their experiences.”

THE wings are off, let the feast begin.

Sisters Bella and Gigi Hadid together with best pal Kendall Jenner headed out for much needed burgers and mac and cheese, after enduring a gruelling few months preparing to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel.

The girls didn’t even stop for breath as they wolfed down junk food, hours after walking the famous catwalk show.

They have all undertaken a strict diet and work out regime in order to get that heavenly body for the big event.

But in Bella’s Snapchat video, which was taken straight after the show, the girls can be seen indulging in burgers for starter followed by a big bowl of cheesy pasta.

After living off a diet of vitamins and vegetables, is no wonder the girls were hungry.

The strict regime was worth it though, as all three girls looked incredible as they walked the runway in Paris last night.

It’s widely known that in order to be a VS Angel you have to have extreme discipline to get that angelic body.

Last year the naturally skinny Kendall even dropped 15 pounds in preparation for the world famous show.

Her Angel diet includes eating lean proteins and drinking up to 12 detox teas a day to promote weight loss and remove waste.

When Gigi Hadid strutted down the runway for Victoria’s Secret in Paris, all eyes were on her colorful costumes—and noticeable weight loss. And though some people thin-shamed the 5-foot-10 model, Hadid went on the record to say that her slender frame is because of a thyroid disease.

“My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year,” she told Elle. “I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”

Photo: Getty

As far as exactly how Hadid got that butt perkier, she revealed that she’s a big believer in squats—though she hates them. “They’re painful, and you have to do so many for them to work,” she said. “Recently for the VS show, I put a sticky note in my kitchen, and every time I walked past the squats sticky note, I had to do 15 squats. Its a good trick because it reminds you that you have to have integrity with yourself. No one else is watching, so I have to just do it for myself.”

The star said she favors boxing for a good workout. “What’s great about boxing is that I couldn’t come to New York and sign up for Equinox, and go running. It was not good,” she said.

“So, I knew I needed to find something that gave me a coach, gave me a family— so that when I walk in, it’s like my big brothers,” she continued. “They’re like, ‘What up!’ They don’t care about who I am. That’s what I needed, and they don’t care about what my body looks like. They care that I give a good punch, and that’s how I want to be judged. That’s what makes me proud of myself.”

In terms of her Model of the Year nod at the British Fashion Awards this week, Hadid credits the win to her energy—not just her photos and runway work. “People are like, ‘What does that mean work wise?’ or, ‘What does her body look like compared to all of the other girls’ bodies?’ or, ‘Her body of work compared to everyone else’s,’” Hadid said. “That was voted on by 1,000 people that I worked with this year, and I don’t think half of them said, ‘Gigi’s pictures were the best of my pictures this years,’ but maybe they said, ‘I had a great day shooting with Gigi. She gave all her energy. She really tried to understand the concept, and showed interest.’ I hope that’s 50 percent of why I got the award, not just the pictures.”

Gigi Hadid Reveals Why She Lost So Much Weight

Gigi Hadid has been looking smoking hot recently. Her recent turn on the Victoria’s Secret catwalk showed off her chiselled abs, taut tummy and perky bottom, all the results of her intensive exercise regime and diet ahead of the Paris catwalk spectacle. But there’s also another sad reason behind the transformation in Gigi’s figure recently – Hashimoto’s Disease.

The model revealed at a recent Reebok event that she has been diagnosed with the condition – a type of autoimmune disorder – which sees the immune system attack the thyroid. The medication she is taking to manage the condition has caused her to lose weight rapidly, something she wasn’t looking to do.

“My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it,” she revealed. “So for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”

In fact, Gigi’s commitment to building muscle in her glutes was so determined, she even took to squating in her apartment at every opportunity.

“I put a sticky note in my kitchen that just said ‘squats’ and every time I walked passed the squat sticky note I had to do 15 squats. It’s a good trick because you have to have integrity with yourself. No one else is watching but you’re like, ‘Okay, I have to do this for myself,’ which is important.”

Gigi’s younger sibling Bella also recently spoke out about her unintentional weight loss ahead of the Victoria’s Secret show, saying: “Weight fluctuates so much. I really didn’t mean to . Like I want boobs. I want my ass back. But it’s not my fault. My weight fluctuates and so does everybody’s and I think that if people are gonna judge, that’s the worst you can possibly do because everybody is different.”

Both Bella, her brother Anwar and mother Yolanda suffer from Lyme’s Disease, a bacterial infection caused by tick bites that leaves sufferers exhausted with muscle and bone aches and mind fogs.

The 22-year-old catwalk queen is the younger sister of fellow global supermodel, Gigi Hadid. She was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Los Angeles, California to real-estate developer Mohamed Hadid from Palestine and Dutch model Yolanda Hadid.

She started modeling at the age of 16 and made her New York Fashion Week debut in 2014 for Desigual.

The following year she found herself walking for the likes of Tom Ford, Diane von Fürstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Jeremy Scott (she closed his show), and Chanel.

Her career was given an extra boost thanks to her high-profile relationship with Canadian singer, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye), which started at the beginning of 2015. But they split in November 2016, and The Weeknd started dating singer Selina Gomez a month later.

But by October 2017, Selena and The Weeknd had split and he was seen back with Bella by April 2018. They broke up again earlier this year.

Bella has always denied she has had plastic surgery or injectables.

Last year, she told InStyle magazine that she is “scared” of going under the knife or having fillers injected.

“People think I got all this surgery or did this or that,” she said. “And you know what? We can do a scan of my face, darling. I’m scared of putting fillers into my lips. I wouldn’t want to mess up my face.”

After being accused of having a nose job and lip fillers by an Instagram troll shortly after, Bella replied: “Blessings to you sweetheart. Jealousy is a cry for help that I wish I could help you with.”

While her mother Yolanda, former reality star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, also denied either Bella or Giga have had work done when she was asked on Instagram.

“None of my children have never done fillers or Botox or put anything foreign in their bodies,” Yolanda replied. “They know better after seeing what I went through .”

As you can see there has been an amazing transformation to Bella’s face since 2010! It appears she started with a surgical nose job before 2014 (as you can see in the upper right picture), followed by gradual non-surgical contouring of the whole face with injectables later on (lower pictures). How can this transformation be achieved? See below: 1)Cheek filler: To sculpt and contour the cheekbones. 2)Jaw filler: a treatment almost as popular as lip fillers that has become a must of the beautification package to make the jawline appear sharper and more well-defined. 3) Jawline slimming: A game changer treatment with botulinum toxin (Botox)that makes the face slimmer by relaxing the masseter muscles. 4)Lip filler: to enhance and rejuvenate the lips. 5)Chin filler: to add length to the face and projection to the side profile. 6) Temple filler: a not-yet very well-known treatment to lift and add volume. Why? Many faces that have been sculpted with fillers in the middle and lower third need also more volume to the upper face for a more harmonized outcome. It’s all about ratios! 7)Brow lift: did you know Botox can be used to improve the arch of the brows by relaxing and smoothing the muscles around the eyes? 8)Nose filler: although she has surgical rhinoplasty done in the past, hyaluronic acid fillers may have been used on top for definition to the bridge of the nose (check lower left pic in comparison to upper left). But before and after pictures of Bella have people questioning her claims.

A whole host of plastic surgeons online believe that Bella has had multiple cosmetic surgeries and tweaks.

Dr Tijion Esho of The Esho Clinic on London’s Harley Street has never worked on Bella, but in his expert opinion believes she had a rhinoplasty (nose job), Botox to lift her brows, dermal fillers to lift her cheekbones and plump her lips, and buccal fat pad removal to make her face look dramatically slimmer.

“Careful makeup can make a nose more streamlined – or even a non-surgical nose job with filler – but to achieve such refined changes to the nasal bridge and nasal tip means it’s much more likely to be surgical,” Dr Esho said.

He also added: “One of the main features to change the most has been the lips. Overtime theses have increased in both size, shape and definition through the possible use of dermal fillers.”

Dr Ifeoma Ejikeme, director of the Adonia Medical Clinic in London, revealed the procedures that could create a look like Bella, starting out with Botox.

She said: “The arch in the eyebrow might have been increased with Botox to open the eye.”

High cheek bones are key to a model look, and Dr. Ejikeme said: “Cheek bones enhanced by a more heart shaped face could be created with gentle filler.”

“You can’t underestimate what makeup, weight loss and time can do,” plastic surgeon Dr. James Marotta told Page Six. “Her face can appear more slender and angular as a result of being slightly older with weight loss and different makeup.”

But he added: “It is clear that she had rhinoplasty. Her upper eyelids appear more open and her brow arch has changed,” he said.

“Her face appears more slender, angular and less rounded. It could be the result of filler injections or facial plastic surgery.”

Gigi Hadid uses simple moves to stay in supermodel shape — and you can do them at home

  • Gigi Hadid is undoubtedly genetically blessed, but staying active and healthy is part of her job.
  • Hadid works out with Rob Piela, a New York City-based trainer and owner of Gotham Gym.
  • The supermodel, who grew up riding horses and playing volleyball, says she boxes every day.
  • She switches up her workout routine on a regular basis but makes sure to prioritize exercise despite her busy schedule.

Gigi Hadid is undoubtedly genetically blessed, but she also works hard to maintain her supermodel figure. Staying active — especially working in such a demanding, high-pressure, and aesthetically focused industry — keeps her fit both mentally and physically.

“For me, I celebrate strength, not only the physical but mental and social,” Hadid said at a Reebok event in January. “You have to nourish all parts of yourself.”

Here’s everything we know about Hadid’s balanced workout routine.

She relies on a trainer for guidance and motivation.

Rob Piela, Hadid’s trainer and owner of Gotham Gym, is on-hand for intense workouts whenever the supermodel is in New York City. And when she is traveling — which is most the time — Piela finds a way to provide support.

“We get together as often as possible, and when she’s here, we turn it up a notch,” Piela told SELF. “But she’s a great friend of mine. We FaceTime when she’s on the road. The motivation and support, no matter where she may be, is critical.”

Despite her busy schedule, Hadid prioritizes exercise — and when she sets a schedule, she sticks to it.

“It’s all about how hard you work and how much you put in — Gigi is a hard worker,” Piela said, according to People. “Staying fit is all about consistency. Don’t miss workout days; don’t get lazy in the winter.”

She grew up riding horses and playing volleyball, and continues to prioritize a fun, active lifestyle.

Playing team sports from a young age taught Hadid discipline and the benefits of friendly competition. As a young horseback rider, she even qualified for the Junior Olympics.

“They were raised doing lots of sports. They were both riding horses every day — their weekends were spent at the horse shows. They got up at four or five in the morning, and it was a very disciplined life,” Yolanda Foster, Hadid’s mother, told Glamour about the model and her sister Bella. “They’re girls that choose to eat healthy, that are in the gym, that are committed to do the work to stay in shape.”

Hadid has also said that her athleticism growing up helped with her confidence and body image.

“Being an athlete was such a big part of me being proud of myself and my skin,” Hadid told ELLE. “My coaches didn’t care about how I looked, they cared about me because I was a good teammate, a good friend, and those were the things that helped me feel strong.”

She loves boxing.

“I was a volleyball player for 12 years, I rode horses my whole life, and now I box every day,” Hadid said, according to People.

Hadid feels motivated to continue boxing because it feels competitive, she told Vogue while showing off her uppercut form in the ring. She also loves that it’s so mentally engaging that she “forgets she’s working out,” so that by the end of the hour, she’s left wanting more.

“Boxing has been great for me because it’s like my new sport, and it’s something that I can get better at,” Hadid told Vogue.

Indeed, Piela told W that boxing is the perfect combination of cardio and resistance training, plus “great for someone who’s competitive.” Even when Hadid isn’t in the ring, Piela incorporates boxing moves into her workout routine.

“Gigi loves boxing, so we use it in a lot of her workouts,” he told SELF, sharing a lower-body workout that Hadid uses to increase her heart rate and build strength. It involves three minutes of boxing, followed by different leg-focused strength-training moves.

She occasionally adds ballet to her routine.

To prepare for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2015, Hadid spent her mornings in Ballet Beautiful classes. Piela also told W that he typically ends Hadid’s workout routines with “ballet-inspired floor exercises.”

As those who’ve become obsessed with the barre method are well aware, ballet is an excellent workout. It promotes both strength and flexibility by targeting muscle endurance. It’s also an excellent exercise to supplement an existing routine, as it works the entire body, especially the core, but without the exhaustion of typical cardio — and has impressive relaxation effects.

She uses relatively simple moves to stay in shape.

Piela recommends simple moves like donkey kicks and bicycle crunches, which require zero gym equipment and can be performed anywhere.

For Hadid’s enviable abs, he recommends a circuit of three at-home floor moves — like planks, crunches and leg raises — four days a week.

“The combination of those three moves is golden,” he told Vogue.

She focuses on core strength.

According to Piela, Hadid warms up with 10 minutes of cardio — either boxing or jumping rope, which he says is the best way to “slim down legs” — and uses cardio to keep her heart rate increased throughout the routine.

Here’s the break-down of Hadid’s core-focused workout routine, according an interview Piela did with Vogue.

Of course, this is just an example of one circuit, as Hadid switches up her workout on a regular basis.

“No one wants to be doing the same thing over and over, and Gigi likes to be challenged. So we shake things up depending on how she’s feeling,” Piela told Women’s Health.

She recognizes the importance of a balanced lifestyle.

“My biggest thing is just eat healthy and work out,” Hadid has said, according to Popsugar. “Yeah, I think the biggest thing I always say is eat clean to stay fit, and then have a cheat day to stay sane.”

Whether she’s slaying the catwalk during Fashion Week or gracing the cover of Vogue, Gigi Hadid always stuns with her impeccable fashion and beauty looks. In addition to her gorgeous style, the supermodel is also super athletic, rocking a six-pack in her Calvin Klein underwear and toned arms in her Instagram posts from the boxing gym. While we can’t wait to see what Gigi wears to the 2018 Met Gala on May 7, we know she’ll arrive on the red carpet in tip-top shape. Here’s how the 22-year-old stays fit and toned.

She Loves Boxing

Gigi is a regular at Gotham Gym in New York and trains with Gotham owner Rob Piela. “When you’re boxing, you get so into it mentally that you kind of forget what’s going on and you forget that you’re working out,” she told Vogue in 2015. “You always want more.” She showed off some of her new moves too, including a jab and an uppercut. The boxing workout also included jumping rope for more cardio.

She Focuses on Her Abs

Gigi’s defined six-pack is no accident; the model works hard with her trainer to sculpt her abs. Rob shared her core-focused workout with Vogue in 2016: warm up your core with 10 minutes of boxing, then three sets of 40 crunches each. After that, you raise your heart rate with 10 minutes of boxing and do three sets of 40 bicycle crunches each, kicking out each leg once per bicycle. Then she boxes for another 10 minutes and holds a plank for a minute.

Although Gigi can hold a plank for a minute, she’s not a huge fan of the exercise; the supermodel did a Q&A with her trainer while holding a plank for an ad for Reebok last year.

She Has a Tough Lower-Body Workout, Too

Gigi’s trainer tends to keep it simple with bodyweight exercises. He gave Self a 25-minute cardio and leg workout comprised of intervals of boxing and intervals of strength training. The strength intervals included squats, donkey kicks, plié squats, and banded squat walks.

She Works Out on the Road

Although Gigi works out with Rob when she’s in New York, she’s often traveling for work. When she’s on the road, Rob still makes sure she gets a good workout in. “We get together as often as possible, and when she’s here, we turn it up a notch,” Rob told Self. “But she’s a great friend of mine. We FaceTime when she’s on the road. The motivation and support, no matter where she may be, is critical.”

She Eats a Balanced Diet

Gigi eats pretty healthy most of the time, but definitely allows for cheats. “My personal motto is: ‘Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane,'” she told Harper’s Bazaar. For breakfast, she usually has bacon, scrambled eggs, and toast with coffee and orange juice. If she’s in the mood for a cheat meal for lunch, she’ll get a burger from JG Melon in New York. Otherwise, she has an arugula salad from The Smile cafe in New York. Although she loves cooking for dinner, she’ll sometimes get sushi for takeout for dinner. And, of course, she leaves room for ice cream.

“There used to be an Emack & Bolio’s on Houston Street, which is my favorite ice cream place. I love the Grasshopper Pie,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “One day it was closed and I almost cried. Now I’ll just Postmate pints of it to my apartment.”

1. Boxing is her go-to workout

Bella’s physique is down to a combination of cardio and strength workouts with a heavy focus on boxing.

“When time is on my side, I train with my coach for intensive sessions,” the Victoria’s Secret angel told Vogue Paris. “I run non-stop for 20 minutes followed by a boxing session and finally a series of weights targeting the abs and glutes. We keep the routines varied, so the sessions are always fun.”

The supermodel is also a fan of barre workouts, which use ballet techniques for a full body-burn.

“Definitely boxing. But also Body Ballet, I’ve only tried it out once but I can see the long term results amongst my friends.”

And that rock hard six-pack? Bella says she uses “nothing other than boxing and a series of targeted ab workouts.”

2. Gym buddies are essential

The 22-year-old trains with Rob Piela, founder of ‘The Ocho System’ and trainer at the renowned Gotham Gym in New York City.

Although she does make an exception for her sister Gigi Hadid, who she sometimes spars with.

“She’s a bad-ass, who is strong and sturdy both mentally and physically.”

Want to copy Bella’s sessions? Rob shared an express workout with SELF that will get you sweating.

“Three minutes of boxing, and then one minute of doing a lot of different leg-focused strength-training moves.”

Choose from:

Squats — 20 reps

Donkey Kicks — 12 reps each side

Plié Squats — 12 reps each side

Banded Squat Walks — 12 reps each side

If you can’t find a boxing buddy, swap the gloves for a skipping rope.

“I’ve always liked jump rope—it’s great for legs—or running if ,” he said. “You just want to keep your heart rate up the entire time.”

Complete six rounds.

3. Commitment is key

Bella doesn’t skimp when it comes to a sweat sesh and it’s that commitment that gets her results. The model told Vogue Paris that the key to a good workout is to “put in 100% from the start to the end of a workout.”

In the lead up to a big event or runway show, Bella works out up to three hours a day.

“I think that if you just stick to something you can really achieve so much,” she said “It’s crazy but I think that you know if you set your mind to something I think you can succeed.”

4. She sticks to a pre and post workout routine

Bella has a few non-negotiables when it comes to her pre and post-workout habits.

“I count on a smoothie, a juice or a protein drink 30 minutes before the session,” she told Vogue Paris.

“After the session I eat something full of protein like chicken and wholegrain rice. It’s ideal to strengthen the muscle mass and to increase the effects of the session.”

Her warm up and cool down is is key, stretching for seven to 10 minutes before and after the session to “relax and lengthen the muscles as well as to improve the performance.”

5. Her diet is flexible

Bella’s obsession with carbs is well documented and for the model, balance is key. Plus when you’re working out like she does you can afford to be flexible with your eating habits.

“If you want to have a piece of bread, go have a piece of bread,” she told People after the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. “I’m going to eat pasta right now.”

Bella’s go-to breakfast is “an egg sandwich on a plain bagel.” And she doesn’t buy into diet fads.

“One time I wanted to be healthy and got a gluten-free bagel, but I promise you, they suck.”

For lunch it’s usually “salmon or chicken and veggies,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “If not, then pasta. I like having a good protein meal because I get really tired if I eat too much, so I try to fill myself up with things that will make me feel good.”

“I order a lot of green juices and keep them around on set,” she adds. “I have ginger shots in a cooler and I’ll drink one if I’m feeling low.”

If she doesn’t have time to make dinner for herself, she’ll often order food in. “I used to make dinner for myself all the time, but now when I leave work I order food,” she says. “Westville is the restaurant I always order from. The sautéed kale is my favourite.”

6. She mixes hobbies with hard work

Fans of Ms Hadid would be well aware of her long-time love for horses. She even planned to complete in the 2016 Olympics but was forced to give up her dream after being diagnosed with Lyme’s disease. Now she’s back on the horse (literally) enjoying horseback riding when busy schedule allows.

And the pastime is a major workout, relying on strength, balance and coordination.

“Horseback riding is an isometric exercise, which means it uses specific muscles to stay in certain positions, in this case, keeping balanced on the horse,” Dr. Stout explains. “As a result, postural strength becomes very important in horseback riding.”
