Shelton has been vocal about losing weight and living a healthier life, though he has yet to cut out meat from his diet.

Stefani, on the other hand, has publicly told Shelton that going vegan is the best way to shed some of those extra pounds. And an inside source now claims that she hasn’t stopped encouraging Shelton behind-the-scenes.

According to Raise Vegan, a source says that Gwen Stefani told Shelton that the best way to lose weight is to stop eating meat and carbs. We do not know how Shelton reacted to the comment, but it has worked for Stefani so far.

Of her diet and exercise routine, the mother of three said it’s “more for my brain than it is for my body.”

Stefani deems her mostly vegan diet, a plant-based diet that doesn’t include any animal products whatsoever, as one of her anti-aging secrets. According to The Inquisitr, the singer began her vegetarianism at age 12 and began adhering more towards a vegan diet later in life.

It seems the mother of three also adheres to a rather low-carb diet. “She avoids pasta, bread, and rice and drinks lots of water,” a source told Celebrity Health & Fitness.

In an interview with Shape magazine, Mike Heatlie, Stefani’s former personal trainer, suggested consuming a low-carb diet or using carb and calorie cycling as a means of burning fat to achieve a physique like Stefani’s.

According to Healthline, “Carb cycling is a dietary approach in which you alternate carb intake on a daily, weekly or monthly basis,” including periods of low, moderate, and high carbohydrate intakes. Although it hasn’t been confirmed that Stefani currently uses carb cycling as a means of dieting, it is clear the popstar watches her intake of carb-heavy and non-vegan foods.

She also told Harper’s Bazaar that although she gets exercise from jumping around onstage and performing, that she still hits the gym because it’s good for her mental health.

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know her limits. In fact, Stefani said she took almost a year off from working out because she needed a break.

“This last year I kind of stopped working out,” she told Marie Claire. “I think my body just needed a break. And so I did that, and focused more on feeling good as opposed to beating myself up.”

GWEN’S WORKOUT
Gwen Stefani has worked out with trainer Gunnar Peterson who is also trainer for Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez. She tried yoga but it didnt work out for her so she sticks to more traditional exercises. As well as looking good, this also benefits her stage performance ‘I would be a rock on stage’. Gunnar Peterson is also famous for the Core Secrets collection which is based around a fitness ball and is very popular is celebrities. You can purchase core secrets for more information but here are the basics.
She works out religiously everyday, involving weights and cardio with her personal trainer three times a week and then jogging / hiking nearby her homes, usually early in the morning. Her personal trainer adds that the key is ‘work, diet and hydration’ you need lots of water and sleep so that you can get rid of the excess body fat that you are holding.
Doing a lot of running when she’s not in the gym is the key because it means she’s toned, but she also gets to keep her feminine shape. It’s important to her to have a girlie figure.
ABS
Gunnar describes how she’s achieved her washboard stomach. “I have her lie on her back on a fitness ball with her legs in front, making a bridge. Then she holds a medicine ball behind her head, by her right ear. Then she curls her body up and brings the ball diagonally across to her left knee.” For abs like Gwen’s, you have to repeat the exercise on the same side 8-12 times. Then swap over, taking the medicine ball by your left ear and bringing it to your right knee. For peak performance, repeat the whole exercise three times.
Gunnar says it’s a fab routine. He explains, “It’s great at working the abs, but also because you have to rotate it’s wonderful for toning your obliques and giving you a better work-out than a traditional crunch. It helps keep feminine curves in check.”
ARMS
Gwen’s streamlined arms and perfect shoulders are all thanks to Gunnar’s expertise. He has two major exercises to work the upper body. “Gwen gives 150 per cent to these exercises and she needs to – it’s all about pushing yourself when you’re very tired. The best way to work the biceps is to do a curl with a bar. First of all, grab the bar with a narrow grip and curl up. When you start really feeling it and your muscles get fatigued, move the grip so it’s wider and continue doing it.” Gwen’s triceps also receive some intensive attention. Rather than doing a bench dip with her feet on the floor, she gets a more hard-core version from Gunnar. He explains, “Instead of having her feet on the floor, she has her feet on another bench in front of her before she dips. If you’re doing this in your gym, try to keep your legs stretched because that way you get a nice hamstring stretch at the same time.”
BUM
To make sure her slim figure isn’t too boyish, Gwen asked Gunnar to make sure her bum stayed nice and round. So he developed an exercise for her to do on the top of a fitness ball to work the glutes and ensure she’s got a sexy booty to be proud of. He explains, “Lie face down on the ball with your front touching the ball where your belt buckle sits. Put your palms flat down on the floor and slightly bend your elbows to balance yourself. Have your legs straight out behind you, but turn your feet out as if you’re doing a plié. Your shoulders should be slightly lower than your hips. “Now slowly lift your heels towards the ceiling. You should be able to lift them slightly higher than your head. As you lift, pause at the top of the motion so you feel it in your bottom. Do three sets of 8-12 of these.
“These really are absolutely fabulous for giving yourself a rounded bum, like Gwen wanted. “The next day you may well feel this in your lower back, but don’t worry. It’s not because you’ve done yourself an injury, it’s because you’ve really worked muscles in your bum that you don’t normally touch.”

With an intense schedule, Stefani’s workout has to be fast, efficient, and produce results. The busy mom previously revealed she keeps her time at the gym to just four days per week with each session lasting about an hour, or slightly longer.

“I have no magic thing that I do to stay fit. I eat really clean, do my shows, and work out,” Stefani told Shape. “I always feel better when I’m in a routine even though I sometimes hate it.”

One secret Stefani admitted to the cardio portion of her routine? “I play tennis, badly, with ,” she said.

Stefani’s former longtime trainer, Mike Heatlie, previously told Shape Magazine, “a high-intensity weight training routine combined with some quality cardiovascular training,” works wonders in achieving results like Stefani’s.

He suggested choosing “four to five exercises” to perform “without any rest between sets” followed by “one to three minutes of high-intensity cardiovascular work.”

Some of the moves to choose from include full dumbbell squats, a standing lateral shoulder raise, kettlebell swings, and unbalanced lunges, to name a few.

Stefani’s new trainer Gunnar Peterson recommends whole-body cardio to sculpt more muscles in less time. More importantly, he advises you find exercises or hobbies that bring you joy if you want to maintain results for the long haul.

“If you can find a way to enjoy what we’re doing, enjoy the work, the end goal seems to come faster,” he said. “You stop looking at the destination and you start enjoying the journey. I know that may sound corny or contrived, but it’s really true.”

Stefani diet is clear of meat and carbs, when possible. From the age of 12, the singer began following a vegetarian diet. She’s also gone full vegan off and on for years.

Heatlie said the best way to burn fat and lose weight is to carb-cycle, which helps drop levels of stored carbs (glycogen) in the muscles and liver. This process helps the body use stored fat for fuel. So how does it work?

Heatlie said reducing carb intake on certain days triggers the fat-burn process. That means cutting bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, sugar, and high-fat foods some days of the week or adapting some form of intermittent fasting (restricting your eating window each day) for faster results.

As for abs like Stefani’s, Peterson said it’ll take more than standard sit-ups.

“Your core wraps around your entire body and supports you,” Gunnar told Popsugar. “When it comes to abs . . . there’s a ton of work done in flexion and maybe at the most in extension.” He said it’s not comprehensive enough to develop celebrity-like abs.

The key is adapting exercise moves that work the entire core such as a variety of planks with toe-touches and Supermans sprinkled in.
