55 companies with top-notch wellness programs
Do we really have to say it?
Health care companies value the health of their employees.
But these 55 companies go the extra mile. The National Business Group on Health recognized the following U.S. employers for their commitment to improving employee health, efficiency and overall quality of life for its 2016 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Awards. The majority of them are in—you guessed it—the health care sector.
Dividing the awards into three categories (platinum, gold and silver), the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit used metrics like job satisfaction, community involvement, financial security, emotional health and social connectedness to determine which employers offered the best of the best.
Just look to UnitedHealth Group, the number one company hiring on the Monster 100—our monthly list of companies that post the most jobs—which received its award for implementing a successful workforce well-being plan, along with health insurance agencies Aetna and Humana. Not to mention, Cerner, a supplier of health information technology solutions, services devices and hardware, received special recognition for emotional health.
Sound like something you would like to get in on? Well, the bulk of these companies are making big hires on Monster. See which companies made the list and what they’re doing to support the health of their employees.

The 44 Healthiest Companies to Work for in America
Headquarters: Washington, D.C.Every employee loves some free hummus, but Cava gives more than that to its 442 employees (although the kitchen is always stocked with dips). All new parents, both salaried and hourly, receive paid time off and paid sick leave. HQ employees frequently receive free Cava meals as they visit D.C. locations, since there is always something new (and healthy!) to try. Flexible work schedules and team-building activities like farm visits and brewery tours keep the fun flowing, and the month-long $1,000 wellness fitness and weight-loss challenge every year rewards employees and teams with the highest numbers with cash.
Headquarters: Boulder, COThis software company provides 100 percent employer-paid coverage to all 423 employees and their families. Employees can also receive $150 per month for trading in their parking pass in favor of alternative transportation. Plus, all Boulder employees get a free RTD Eco-Pass for bus and light rail rides. Unlimited PTO from the start, weekly on-site massage services, and an on-site game room guarantee you’ll play as hard as you work. Before you get too excited, know you may have to dodge a few bullets during the regular in-office Nerf gun fights, and it’s anybody’s guess what happens during the annual all-out April Fool’s Day pranks.
Headquarters: Le Mars, IAAt Schuster Co., family reigns supreme. And we’re not just talking about work “family.” The trucking company puts on regular parties for its 415 employees and their families. From Christmas get-togethers to an in-house trick-or-treat for kids and grandkids to bowling nights and picnics, quality time isn’t too hard to come by. Every year the company also hosts a week of giving back, offering catered meals and prizes to its drivers. Wellness is just as important: Its Driving Wellness Program offers free health coaching, biometric screenings, and on-site YMCA classes to all employees, with regular guest lectures on nutrition and physical activity.
Headquarters: Philadelphia, PAThe global brand experience agency isn’t just about creating experiences for its clients; it’s about the home office too. In addition to the nuts and bolts, like 100 percent preventative care coverage, subsidized lunches, flexible hours, and work-from-home privileges for parents, the company offers its 406 employees a farm-to-table lunch every few months and hosts on-site yoga classes once per week. And because it specializes in events, employees get to experience them too. Summer BBQs, chili cook-offs, and holiday parties are just a sampling of the festivities that keep this place lively. Plus, through the Bring Your Dog to Work program, employee pets may have the opportunity to spend a day at the office. Because dogs make everything better.
inVentiv Health Public Relations Group
Headquarters: New York, NYThis PR company knows how to keep its 251 employees satisfied, with free daily lunch, chair massages, and yoga classes. And don’t forget the company-wide Thanksgiving potluck that reminds you coworkers are family too. Unlimited personal and sick days and three weeks paid vacation to start provide the downtime you need to keep living life, and the company’s VitaminC3 health program offers nutritional assistance, like cooking classes as well as physical fitness activities at the office, to keep you active between screen-staring stints. Our favorite perk? Your pet’s invited to join you at work, so you can stop paying that dog walker and finally have something that makes you take a break.
Headquarters: New York, NYAs you would expect, juice is a big deal at this company. It’s also an excuse for its 250-plus employees to give in to the cleanse craze for free. Store employees receive unlimited complimentary juices and smoothies as well as one free meal during every shift, and the corporate office gets cold-pressed juices delivered twice weekly. Plus, all employees get 50 percent off in-store purchases. Once per month, the juice gets spiced up with a little tequila during the company’s Margarita Fridays. Fun and booze aside, dental and vision insurance are free, while Juice Generation covers 80 percent of the cost of single-coverage medical insurance. And once you’ve worked 90 days, all employees get a free, all-access gym membership.
Headquarters: New York, NYYoga, barre, Pilates, cycling—those are just a few of the classes you can take every month with the free ClassPass membership the fitness company offers its 175 employees. Plan on a free, healthy lunch every Wednesday and breakfast every Friday, in addition to a fully stocked kitchen with snacks like Greek yogurt, chia pudding, almond butter, fruit, and nuts. New mothers get up to 12 paid weeks off, while fathers receive up to four, and preventive care visits and exams are 100 percent covered through health insurance. The company also has an uncapped paid time off policy, meaning you can take off all the time you need, assuming you get your work done. A special social committee organizes monthly wellness workshops and events like meditation sessions and nutrition classes.
Headquarters: Bellevue, WAWork while you walk? At this office you can. Or cycle, if you prefer, with one of the bike or treadmill desks available to employees. A full gym and fitness challenges offered through the LimeMates healthy-living program makes staying fit easy as pie, and quarterly massages keep all 160 employees happy and relaxed. Mini trampolines, scooters, and flash fitness workouts for a minute or less make this office seem more like a fun zone than a workplace, and you can keep track of all those steps or jumps with the free Fitbit given to every employee. Staying in shape on the job was never so fun.
Headquarters: San Francisco, CAIn-house daily yoga, nap rooms, a free gym membership, and flexible time off are just a few of the ways this software company thanks its 150 employees. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner made available in-house and prepared using produce from local, sustainable, and organic farms is another. Asana covers 100 percent of insurance premiums for employees and 50% for family members. And speaking of family, when it comes to growing yours, the company’s all for it, offering 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
Tough Mudder, Inc.
Headquarters: Brooklyn, NYThis company may be adept at creating grueling obstacle courses, but working there is an easy choice: Naturally, you’ll get a good workout, with breakfast clubs that include morning workout sessions held twice a week in the HQ office, intramural sports teams, company runs, and free entrance to any Tough Mudder event. All 147 employees also receive a monthly wellness stipend to spend on their own personal wellness. Free snacks and a monthly catered breakfast helps you refuel after sweat sessions, and unlimited vacation and weekly happy hours keep the fun going.
CamelBak Products, LLC
Headquarters: Petaluma, CAThe company that plays together stays together. Or so it seems at CamelBak, where outdoor and indoor adventures are just a normal part of company culture. Through its Bak to Health program, the company offers healthy snack stations with items like yogurt, nuts, fruits, and veggies; an on-site masseuse at discounted rates; various fitness events; flexible hours; and a four- to six-week paid sabbatical after seven years. Bak to Health also encourages associates to form teams and track progress in exercise, hydration, and nutrition, with programs like biweekly Pilates classes and a part-time personal trainer. If you’re an outdoors guru, you’ll love the discounts you get at other outdoor/adventure companies. And when it comes to fun, you’ll find plenty with the host of company get-togethers, featuring anything from a scavenger hunt to rock climbing to catered lunches with adult beverages.
Headquarters: Boston, MAThe technology-driven health-and-wellness products company is equally driven by its commitment to the health of its 138 employees. Fridges are stocked twice per week with fresh fruit, nuts, yogurt, and other items. The company has been designated a Gold Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association and offers subsidized gym memberships and a six-week fitness challenge that allows employees to compete for prizes while giving them access to personal-training services. In addition to frequent off-site events like trampoline dodgeball, mini-golf, and bowling, the company has summer Fridays and provides unlimited vacation, flexible schedules, and the ability to work from home when needed. The only rule? Be the best employee you can.
Headquarters: Marin County, CAThe superfoods company is awesome about encouraging its 102 employees to work out: For every fitness class they attend, they receive an extra half hour of paid time off. Monthly company lunches, a kitchen stocked with (you guessed it) Navitas products, and a monthly allowance for its full line of products aren’t half-bad either. In case you’re worried about having fun, the company tackles that too via hiking adventures and kayaking excursions.
Headquarters: San Francisco, CATradeshift brings buyers, suppliers, and their processes together in one global network, but it also helps connect its 74 U.S. employees through in-office game and movie nights and company outings. Looking for a quick break? Take a swing in one of the lounge hammocks or hit up the video game room. This proactive company also provides fully covered medical, dental, vision, and life benefits; six months paid maternity leave and two months paid paternity leave; and unlimited vacation and sick days.

7 NYC tech companies with a healthy, holistic work culture
Our health can take a heavy a hit from our work schedules. On average, Americans spend around half their lives at work, and workplace culture can have a huge impact on our well-being. If you’ve ever worked in a cubicle farm where boss-provided donuts were considered the most exciting thing since the invention of the iPhone, you know what I mean. A toxic, unhealthy work environment will wear off on you, no matter how hard you fight back.
Here are seven NYC tech companies that take a positive, healthy office culture seriously.
A clear head and a sense of adventure.
Employees at Button enjoy an unlimited vacation policy, as well as a program that offers them a $500 travel stipend. Put together, it’s a recipe for adventure, and adventures are just what the doctor ordered. If nothing else, one 9-year study found that men who took at least one vacation a year were 30 percent less likely to die from a heart attack, while another study found that people who did not take vacations were twice as likely to die of a heart attack. Travel, meanwhile, has been shown to decrease depression, increase vaccination rates, reduce stress, and decrease rates of employee absenteeism.
TONS of fitness classes.
ClassPass encourages their employees to show up in exercise gear so that they can take advantage of their free ClassPass memberships. It turns out that changing up your exercise habits, as is encouraged with ClassPass, can have some big impacts on the results you get from your routine. Your body’s muscles and nervous system will adapt to whatever your workout routine is in as little as six to eight weeks, and you’ll begin to plateau. If you mix it up, your body will constantly be struggling to catch up, which will produce more results.
Commuting for health.
Employees at Newsela benefit from a CitiBike reimbursement plan. While that may sound like a recipe for a sweaty office, cycling to work has shown some pretty amazing health benefits. On average, bicycle commuters lose around 13 pounds in their first year of cycling. They also get a good cardiovascular workout, avoid traffic and packed subway cars and are less likely to call in sick than their peers.
A yogic lifestyle.
Employees at MediaMath enjoy some pretty amazing views of Manhattan from their offices in 4 World Trade Center. But, in one of the few rooms in their offices without a view, they also enjoy in-office yoga classes. Even NIH studies have shown that Yoga has been shown to reduce pain and improve function in people who suffer from chronic lower back pain, and may reduce heart rate, blood pressure, anxiety and depression. What’s more, yoga can boost immunity, ease migraines, boost sexual performance and help you sleep better.
A nap a day.
While Betterment’s offices in no way resemble a daycare facility, they do have one striking similarity — a nap room. While it might just sound lazy to take a nap at work, napping has some pretty amazing benefits. Not only will napping reduce fatigue, it has been shown to increase increase alertness, improve mood, improve reaction time and memory and, of course, increase relaxation.
A holistic office environment.
Employees at LittleThings not only enjoy working at a company dedicated to bringing uplifting content to the web, they also enjoy things like in-office massages and group meditation. Studies have shown that massage reduces stress, pain and muscle tension, while meditation reduces blood pressure and may ease symptoms of anxiety and depression.
A healthy baby and family.
New parents at Etsy enjoy one of the city’s most generous parental leave policies. Every employee is eligible for 26 weeks of fully paid leave when they give birth or adopt a child. That perk is valid regardless of the employee’s gender, country of residence or family circumstance, and can be used at any time over two years. More time at home has shown to have a huge impact on the health of a baby. According to studies, paid parental leave can reduce infant mortality by 10 percent and increase their chances of getting their proper vaccinations by as much as 25.3 percent. What’s more, women who receive over 12 weeks of maternity leave are 18 percent less likely to suffer from depression.

From in-office yoga to step challenges, here’s how Chicago tech companies bond over fitness
What is your favorite company health initiative?
In May, we had our first ever “Wellness Week,” which included cold press juice deliveries, a self-defense class and a presentation about work-related stress. This, in addition to all of our intramural sports teams, our annual participation in the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge and our on-site gym, helps us all stay healthy year round!
How does the PowerReviews team bond over wellness?
Initiatives like the ones mentioned above allow employees to come together, have some fun outside and improve overall wellness. This in turn directly contributes to forming stronger relationships with the people you work with, and creating a more productive environment. Finding the other early morning gym rat, cycling commuter, vegan or yogi has formed organic relationships across teams and departments.
What is your favorite part of PowerReviews’ culture?
The diversity. There are so many different perspectives and representations. It is nice to see so many different people working collaboratively from vast backgrounds.

Best Nutrition Innovation 2019
Whether it’s due to all the brainwashing from Netflix documentaries, or just down to better access to information, consumers are way more informed when it comes to health, especially in terms of nutrition. And as you’d expect, businesses – be it big time brands or small, independents or startups – have caught on. As a result, there are now loads of nutrition companies competing for our money, all promising the world and to fix our unhealthy habits.
Whether it’s smart juicers, connected blender, high-tech cookers, antioxidant superfoods, or vegan protein powders; it’s become almost impossible to know where to start when it comes to eating yourself healthy. Out of all the many aisles of Holand & Barrett or Planet Organic – how do you really know what’s actually any good?
I take a look at the latest innovations in the nutrition space
Here is a rundown of the best nutrition innovations that use technology to aid us in leading a healthier life, be it appliances, gadgets, services, or supplements.
Super smart, healthy cooking: Thermomix
Thermomix is a super smart kitchen gadget that can do all your cooking from one place
The Thermomix is a multi-functional gadget for the kitchen that basically lets you do all your healthy cooking at once. The potentials of this thing are endless. Thermomix weighs, chops, blends, mixes, grinds, grates, cooks, steams, whisks and kneads, all at the touch of a button. Yep, pretty crazy stuff. There’s also a full color touchscreen that can plan shopping lists, prepare meals and guide users through easy to follow recipes, meaning less time is spent in the kitchen and more time enjoying the end result.
Available at: thermomix.vorwerk
Weight management: Nutribullet Balance
The Nutribullet Balance weighs your food before you blend it, giving you more a more accurate… calorie intake
Launching in the UK this summer, the NutriBullet Balance uses its SMART Nutrition System which sees the blender connect to an app on a smartphone or tablet, and give real-time nutrition data, down to the very gram. It does this by weighing the food that you put into it, measuring and tracking as you pop them into it.

Nutritional needs based on your biomarkers: BlueprintFit
BlueprintFit uses an app to provide you with your genetic profile and help you make more informed… decisions on your nutritional choices
BlueprintFit is a biomarker testing service for people who want to know more about the genetic makeup of their bodies so they can make better, healthier decisions when it comes to nutrition, fitness, and exercise. After a blood test, users can uncover their current biomarker levels, which can also be tracked over time to gauge health, wellness, and performance.
This is because the blood tests tell you how your body may or may not be programmed, which you can then act upon, and make modifications that impact your biomarker levels and this change and improve your health.
The tech part comes via the app, which lets you control, access and view your test results on your mobile devices. Through the dashboard, you can also view multiple Blueprint test results, instantly search for any biomarker you’ve tested for, and view results that are out-of-range. The app integrates with Apple HealthKit, too, allowing you to share health and fitness data with other apps so you can have all your fitness and health apps in one place.
I gave BluePrint a go in a bid to aid my triathlon training in August and to help me follow my vegan diet to a performance level, but without losing weight or muscle. To make sure that I was getting adequate nutrition and didn’t lose weight while actively training, BluePrint advised me to reinforce my importance of calorie-dense foods, such as avocado, nuts, nut butters, seeds, etc. It also encouraged me to log my calorie input to assess macros to ensure I was consuming at least 100-112g per day and not losing weight but having the fuel I needed.

A genetic kit that enables monitoring of our internal wellness: Muhdo
Muhdo is particularly innovative because it tracks how your gene impressions change over time in… reaction to changes in health
Saliva DNA capture is perhaps one of the easiest ways to do a DNA test: spit in a tube, stick a stamp on it and send it through the post.
After running a bunch of tests, your genetic profile will be sent to you or uploaded to a personal online account. A fitness and nutrition plan will then be made especially for you based on your genetic markers, depending on the company doing it. It essentially tells you the nutrients your body needs more and less of to complement your workouts, and what types of exercise you benefit from the most.
While there are hundreds of companies that do this nowadays, Muhdo is particularly interesting because it tells you what nutrients are lacking in your gene pool, and which vitamins are vital for you to take in order to stay at your best or prevent injury. For example, it will tell you if your body will best respond to high load, low repetition workouts, if it’s sensitive to caffeine, or if you should take magnesium for better sleep and recovery.
Recently, Muhdo launched what it claimed was the world’s first genetic kit that enables us to monitor our internal wellness and make lifestyle and diet choices to improve the quality of our lives. Instead of it being a one-off test, the new preventative healthcare kit gives personalized nutrition, exercise and lifestyle advice based on regular monitoring across the full spectrum of the user’s genetic profile. Six monthly saliva tests are used to track the impact on a range of health and fitness goals.
This is already a popular option for professional athletes looking to tweak their training, but I think it will soon become standard practice for everyone who’s health conscious.

SCIENCE SUPPLEMENTS & SPORTS NUTRITION
Okay so the below entries are not strictly a health “gadgets” as such, but plenty of technology went into making them a thing. There’s a lot of science behind vitamins and supplements in general, but despite scientific claims, you don’t know if they work unless you try them. I’ve tested a lot in my time, but here’s a few stand out ones I’ve felt make a difference, and go hand-in-hand with the above nutrition tech.
All the essential nutrients, sustainably: Huel
Huel is one of the main ingredients in the Silicon Valley Diet, a cult meal alternative drink that the tech community is currently obsessing over.
Offering a nutritionally complete meal in powdered form, Huel can be dissolved into water to give you all the 26 essential nutrients needed to live a healthy balanced lifestyle on a daily basis.
How? It’s made from real food such as milled down oats which are high in fiber, releasing energy slowly to prevent snacking in-between meals. Due to the ingredients list of Huel, the company says you could theoretically live off it 100% of the time. I say theoretically because I can promise the severe cravings for real food would make this easy to do. Good for those starting a cleanse or detox, I’d say.
Also, all of the main ingredients within Huel are sources of protein. With the brown rice and pea protein, the protein has been extracted to give Huel the ideal amino acid profile to fulfill all the essential functions. Being a powder means users will only consume what they need to, therefore, reduce a large amount of food waste.

The “trifecta of health”: BodyBio Foundational Kit
BodyBio’s supplements are developed to help clear the toxins your body doesn’t need, replenish the lipids it does, and rejuvenate with phospholipids. Recently, the firm launched its Foundational Kit, comprising their top three, “trifecta of health” supplements, which includes Phosphatidylcholine (PC), Balance Oil and Butyrate. Here is what each vitamin does for you:
PC: It’s not a vitamin, but a “nootropic”. BodyBio says this phospholipid is designed for your brain, memory, mood and long-term cognitive resilience. BodyBio PC is made of pure phospholipids which automatically form liposomes in the body.
Balance Oil: This is formulated with a ratio of four parts omega 6 to one part omega 3. Taken in this ratio, these nutrients are said to positively impact brain function, digestive health, immune support, liver function, and cardiovascular activity.
Butyrate: Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid that is a potent detoxifier of ammonia and neurotoxins. It can also encourage the formation of friendly bacteria in the gut, helping to keep the good bacteria thriving and keep the bad bacteria out of your microbiome.

A milk with a difference: Mighty Society Pea Mylk
There are dairy alternative milks for pretty much every nut that exists, but what about peas? It was only a matter of time. And so here we have it, a pea ‘mylk’ product crafted by The Mighty Society, a startup co-founded by two brothers from the British county of Yorkshire, the latest brand to join the plant milk market.
Launched just a few months ago, The Mighty Society’s two core ranges of original and unsweetened now span 1,000 stores in the UK including 300 Sainsbury’s, 500 Holland & Barrett stores and several Whole Foods UK stores. And there’s a reason why they’ve shot to success so fast, the milk alternative boasts health benefits its nut equals don’t, such as 8g of plant protein per 250ml serving (eight times that of almond milk), 50% more calcium and 40% less sugar than cow’s milk, as well as being source of Vitamin D and B12. It’s also more sustainable, taking 100 times less water to grow yellow split peas over almonds, and 25 times less water per liter of milk than dairy offerings. Who knew!
Concentration power: Motion Nutrition Power Up Nootropic
This smart cognitive-enhancing supplement, designed by neuroscientists, is said to fight fatigue, enhance memory and increase alertness so you can think more sharply, all the while improving brain health.
Costing £24.99 for a 30 day supply, the Motion Nutrition Power Up pills don’t contain any unsafe stimulants or caffeine, just vitamins that are safe for long-term use, including: L-Tyrosine, an amino acid that replenishes stores of dopamine; Gotu Kola, which improves circulation in your brain for better concentration; Korean Panax Ginseng, which fights brain fog for better mental clarity, and; Lion’s Mane Mushroom, a powerful superfood that supports stress recovery and induces development of new brain neurons.
Available at via motionnutrition.com, Holland & Barrett, and Planet Organic.
Instant BCAAs: NOCCO
During and after exercise, Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are needed for repairing and building of muscles. And an easy way of getting this extra contribution of these amino acids is with NOCCO – the “NO Carbs COmpany”. Get it? It’s the only brand right now to offer BCAA’s pre-blended in a can for convenience when training, as traditionally, BCAAs only come in a powder form, to be added to water. NOCCO BCAA contains BCAA, green tea extract, caffeine, and six different vitamins while being completely free of sugar. Available across many UK gyms, or at NOCCO.com
Protein for the mind and body: Innermost
Innermost is probably one of my favorite nutrition powders. It’s not only vegan and thus more sustainable, but it combines traditional sports nutrition ingredients such as protein with nootropic adaptogens. These are essentially herbal pharmaceuticals, which work to counteract the effects of stress in the body that are known to harm the neurological, endocrine, and immune syst via motionnutrition.com, Holland & Barrett, Planet Organicems. This, Innermost says, works to benefit you both physically and mentally.
It’s also is one of few high-protein vegan supplement powders that doesn’t taste like sawdust. I recommend it for use in the high tech blenders reviewed above.

Keep your hair on: It Really Works vitamins
Not a sports nutrition, but one you (well, the men out there) might want to look into if you’re worried about the future of your appearance. The It Really Works vitamins are an extra-strength formulation of twenty-two minerals and vitamins, which the firm claims encourages healthier hair growth, including Keratin – a protein that makes up your hair, skin, and nails – as well as Rosehip, Retinol, Biotin, and PABA, which all improve your body’s Keratin structure.
It Really Works Vitamins are therefore said to have 800% of your RDA of Biotin, 455% of your RDA of Vitamin B1 and 250% of your RDA of Manganese. After a 90 day trial, I definitely noticed my hair grew faster and looked healthier and stronger.

The Top 42 Corporate Wellness Companies That Are Transforming Workplace Health and Happiness
At SnackNation we live by the motto “Health above all else.” In fact, it’s the first – and arguably most important – of our five core values.
In our view, health is always square one.
You can’t be a good boss, teammate, friend, or spouse without first taking care of yourself. And we’re not the only ones. More and more companies are finding that healthier employees are also happier and more productive. As a result, a cottage industry of corporate wellness companies have sprung up in the last few decades, offering an array of different services and approaches. But with so many options out there, how do you decide which solution is best for your organization? That’s where we come in. We compiled this list of the best of the best health and wellness companies, the ones with the longest national reach, the most robust programs, and a track record of success.
