But these 55 companies go the extra mile. The National Business Group on Health recognized the following U.S. employers for their commitment to improving employee health, efficiency and overall quality of life for its 2016 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Awards. The majority of them are in—you guessed it—the health care sector.

Dividing the awards into three categories (platinum, gold and silver), the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit used metrics like job satisfaction, community involvement, financial security, emotional health and social connectedness to determine which employers offered the best of the best.

Just look to UnitedHealth Group, the number one company hiring on the Monster 100—our monthly list of companies that post the most jobs—which received its award for implementing a successful workforce well-being plan, along with health insurance agencies Aetna and Humana. Not to mention, Cerner, a supplier of health information technology solutions, services devices and hardware, received special recognition for emotional health.

Plan on a free, healthy lunch every Wednesday and breakfast every Friday, in addition to a fully stocked kitchen with snacks like Greek yogurt, chia pudding, almond butter, fruit, and nuts. New mothers get up to 12 paid weeks off, while fathers receive up to four, and preventive care visits and exams are 100 percent covered through health insurance. Headquarters: Petaluma, CAThe company that plays together stays together. Or so it seems at CamelBak, where outdoor and indoor adventures are just a normal part of company culture.     Nike‘s headquarters focuses heavily on employee health and fitness. Employees working at the Beaverton, Oregon campus have access to a full-size soccer field, a putting green, a full-service gym, a basketball court, and a running track.

    According to a previous article written by Business Insider, employees can also test out the company’s latest releases, and tend to be “athletic and sports-obsessed folks.”

    Lululemon gives its employees money to pay for workout classes and discounts on their apparel

    According to one Glassdoor review, Lululemon gives employees $25 twice per week to go to different workout classes. The company also gives employees access to local gyms, and even reimbursements if certain gyms aren’t covered in their wellness program.

    The employee discount is also generous, allowing employees to shop a range of the brand’s fitness apparel. Part-time employees get 40% off of full-priced items and 75% off of markdowns, while full-time employees enjoy a 60% discount on full-priced items.

    7 NYC tech companies with a healthy, holistic work culture

    Our health can take a heavy a hit from our work schedules. On average, Americans spend around half their lives at work, and workplace culture can have a huge impact on our well-being. If you’ve ever worked in a cubicle farm where boss-provided donuts were considered the most exciting thing since the invention of the iPhone, you know what I mean. A toxic, unhealthy work environment will wear off on you, no matter how hard you fight back.

    Here are seven NYC tech companies that take a positive, healthy office culture seriously.

    A clear head and a sense of adventure.

    Employees at Button enjoy an unlimited vacation policy, as well as a program that offers them a $500 travel stipend. Put together, it’s a recipe for adventure, and adventures are just what the doctor ordered. If nothing else, one 9-year study found that men who took at least one vacation a year were 30 percent less likely to die from a heart attack, while another study found that people who did not take vacations were twice as likely to die of a heart attack. Travel, meanwhile, has been shown to decrease depression, increase vaccination rates, reduce stress, and decrease rates of employee absenteeism.

    TONS of fitness classes.

    ClassPass encourages their employees to show up in exercise gear so that they can take advantage of their free ClassPass memberships. It turns out that changing up your exercise habits, as is encouraged with ClassPass, can have some big impacts on the results you get from your routine. Your body’s muscles and nervous system will adapt to whatever your workout routine is in as little as six to eight weeks, and you’ll begin to plateau. If you mix it up, your body will constantly be struggling to catch up, which will produce more results.

    Commuting for health.

    Employees at Newsela benefit from a CitiBike reimbursement plan. While that may sound like a recipe for a sweaty office, cycling to work has shown some pretty amazing health benefits. On average, bicycle commuters lose around 13 pounds in their first year of cycling. They also get a good cardiovascular workout, avoid traffic and packed subway cars and are less likely to call in sick than their peers.

    A yogic lifestyle.

    Employees at MediaMath enjoy some pretty amazing views of Manhattan from their offices in 4 World Trade Center. But, in one of the few rooms in their offices without a view, they also enjoy in-office yoga classes. Even NIH studies have shown that Yoga has been shown to reduce pain and improve function in people who suffer from chronic lower back pain, and may reduce heart rate, blood pressure, anxiety and depression. What’s more, yoga can boost immunity, ease migraines, boost sexual performance and help you sleep better.

    A nap a day.

    While Betterment’s offices in no way resemble a daycare facility, they do have one striking similarity — a nap room. While it might just sound lazy to take a nap at work, napping has some pretty amazing benefits. Not only will napping reduce fatigue, it has been shown to increase increase alertness, improve mood, improve reaction time and memory and, of course, increase relaxation.

    A holistic office environment.

    Employees at LittleThings not only enjoy working at a company dedicated to bringing uplifting content to the web, they also enjoy things like in-office massages and group meditation. Studies have shown that massage reduces stress, pain and muscle tension, while meditation reduces blood pressure and may ease symptoms of anxiety and depression.

    A healthy baby and family.

    New parents at Etsy enjoy one of the city’s most generous parental leave policies. Every employee is eligible for 26 weeks of fully paid leave when they give birth or adopt a child. That perk is valid regardless of the employee’s gender, country of residence or family circumstance, and can be used at any time over two years. More time at home has shown to have a huge impact on the health of a baby. According to studies, paid parental leave can reduce infant mortality by 10 percent and increase their chances of getting their proper vaccinations by as much as 25.3 percent. What’s more, women who receive over 12 weeks of maternity leave are 18 percent less likely to suffer from depression.

    I gave BluePrint a go in a bid to aid my triathlon training in August and to help me follow my vegan diet to a performance level, but without losing weight or muscle.     Saliva DNA capture is perhaps one of the easiest ways to do a DNA test: spit in a tube, stick a stamp on it and send it through the post.

    After running a bunch of tests, your genetic profile will be sent to you or uploaded to a personal online account. A fitness and nutrition plan will then be made especially for you based on your genetic markers, depending on the company doing it. It essentially tells you the nutrients your body needs more and less of to complement your workouts, and what types of exercise you benefit from the most.

    While there are hundreds of companies that do this nowadays, Muhdo is particularly interesting because it tells you what nutrients are lacking in your gene pool, and which vitamins are vital for you to take in order to stay at your best or prevent injury. For example, it will tell you if your body will best respond to high load, low repetition workouts, if it’s sensitive to caffeine, or if you should take magnesium for better sleep and recovery.

    Recently, Muhdo launched what it claimed was the world’s first genetic kit that enables us to monitor our internal wellness and make lifestyle and diet choices to improve the quality of our lives.     Okay so the below entries are not strictly a health “gadgets” as such, but plenty of technology went into making them a thing. There’s a lot of science behind vitamins and supplements in general, but despite scientific claims, you don’t know if they work unless you try them. I’ve tested a lot in my time, but here’s a few stand out ones I’ve felt make a difference, and go hand-in-hand with the above nutrition tech.

    All the essential nutrients, sustainably: Huel

    Huel is one of the main ingredients in the Silicon Valley Diet, a cult meal alternative drink that the tech community is currently obsessing over.

    Offering a nutritionally complete meal in powdered form, Huel can be dissolved into water to give you all the 26 essential nutrients needed to live a healthy balanced lifestyle on a daily basis.

    How? It’s made from real food such as milled down oats which are high in fiber, releasing energy slowly to prevent snacking in-between meals.
