4 Tortilla Wrap Recipes

This post is sponsored by Horizon Organic. All opinions are my own. 4 wholesome tortilla wrap ideas for kids and adults.

My kids, like many others around the country, went back to school this week. It’s been a swirl of mixed emotions for me. On the one hand, I’ll miss our lazy days together, but on the other, we all thrive with some routine. I know I’m more balanced when I get a little time to myself. I’m excited to get back into my yoga and workout mornings, and having time to work during the day, rather than at 5am. With the back-to-school season comes lunch packing.

I know we can all use more ideas for packed lunches, whether it’s for work or school. So I wanted to share four of my go-to tortilla wraps. You can use tortillas or lavash, although lavash is my family’s preference taste wise. These wraps all take just a few minutes to prepare and are filled with nourishing veggies or fruit. The options for wrap fillings are endless, but here are four ideas to get you started.

My girls started eating these peanut butter and banana wraps when their preschool started serving them for snack. It’s definitely a preschooler favorite. You can use any nut or seed butter your family likes. If I have homemade chocolate almond butter around I’ll even use that sometimes. Please remember to cut round foods like grapes and cherry tomatoes in half lengthwise for small children. If there are any children with nut allergies in your kids’ classes, please don’t pack them in lunch boxes.

Once we’ve got our wraps rolled up and into the lunch boxes, we can supplement with other snacks. I typically try to create a balanced lunch by including fruit, veggies, protein and healthy fats. I also love to add a kid-favorite snack like Horizon fruit snacks, grahams, or crackers. They don’t contain any artificial colors or flavors and my kids (and husband) get really excited. Sometimes the extra fun treats make the difference between my kids asking for school hot lunch and wanting lunch from home, which I prefer.

This easy lunch is made with the Mediterranean wrap, Horizon organic peanut butter sandwich crackers, kiwi, watermelon, blueberries, and a few Horizon fruit snacks. This wrap is one I often make for myself for lunch. If you happen to have balela salad in the fridge, us it here! It will have a ton of flavor.

Banana Wrap

  • 1 tortilla
  • 2 tablespoons favorite nut or seed butter (seed butter for no-nut schools)
  • pinch of hemp hearts
  • 1 peeled banana

Mediterranean Wrap

  • 1 piece lavash flatbread or tortilla
  • 2 tablespoons favorite hummus
  • 1 Persian cucumber, sliced
  • 1 Roma or plum tomato, sliced crosswise
  • 1/4 avocado, sliced
  • 1/4 cup balala salad or drained chickpeas
  • 1 cup baby lettuce
  • 1/4 cup pitted and halved kalamata olives (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon favorite vinaigrette

Tex-Mex Wrap

  • 1 tortilla
  • 2 tablespoons guacamole or smashed avocado with lime juice and salt
  • 1/4 cup cooked quinoa
  • 1/4 cup drained black beans
  • 2 tablespoons corn kernels
  • 1/2 cup favorite lettuce or sliced cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons prepared salsa

Rainbow Wrap

  • 1 piece of lavash or tortilla
  • 2 tablespoons favorite hummus or herb cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 1/2 tomato, sliced
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrot
  • 1/4 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce (I used Romaine)
  • 1 tablespoon favorite vinaigrette

  1. Place your tortilla or lavash on a cutting board. Spread the second ingredient (hummus, nut butter, etc.) over one side of the tortilla/lavash. Top with the remaining ingredients and roll up. Enjoy now or refrigerate for lunch.

Lighter Lunches

Alright, that’s it. Who is ready for lightened up lunches, pontoon rides, and patio weather? THIS GIRL. Forget the comfort foods and stocking hats, I’m ready for sunshine and warm weather. It’s amazing how much the weather dictates my diet.

Fall = chili + PSLs

Winter = meat + potatoes

Spring= salads + berries

Summer= watermelon + bbq chicken

Who Doesn’t Love Fresh Food?

The minute the sunshine comes out is the moment my body can’t get enough greens and berries. I have been craving smoothies, salads, and blueberries on top of my peanut butter toast in the morning. I just love anything fresh I can get my hands on.

Lin and I were talking the other day about what we ate for lunch when we worked in a corporate setting (Lin worked at Target Corporation and I worked at Anytime Fitness HQ). Breakfast and dinner seemed easier to meal prep, keep cool, and prepare right before you ate it because you did it all in your own kitchen.

Meal Prep Lunch

Lunch, however, you prep and let it sit for a few hours before you eat it. Let me tell you– I can’t do mushy bread or gooey lettuce. It was always a fun challenge to make lunches that were easier to pack and STAYED delicious until lunch.

This Healthy Buffalo Chicken Wrap is a delicious option for lunch on-the-go! Prep the chicken Sunday night, cut the veggies and make your wraps. You can prep a couple wraps for the first couple days of the week or you can have all the ingredients prepped and prepare the wrap before you head to work in the morning. Both options leave you with a satisfying lunch packed with protein and veggies.

Healthy Buffalo Chicken

Let’s talk about this healthy buffalo chicken for a second. Our signature buffalo chicken recipe is made with 3 simple ingredients. Here’s what you need:

  • shredded chicken
  • plain Greek yogurt
  • hot sauce

You can make your shredded chicken however you want! We do have a few simple tutorials on FFF for shredded chicken — Instant Pot shredded chicken and Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken. Either way, from there, all you need to do is mix in Greek yogurt (any fat percentage works) and hot sauce.

Healthy grilled chicken and ranch wraps are loaded with chicken, cheese and ranch. These tasty wraps come together in under 15 minutes and make a great lunch or snack! Ranch and chicken are a match made in heaven. Ever since I can remember, ranch was the only sauce I would dip my chicken in. What’s not to love about creamy zesty ranch.

If you’re a huge fan of ranch dressing like I am, than you’re going to fall in love with these chicken and ranch wraps. They are extremely easy to make and can be prepared ahead of time for work or meal prep.

These grilled chicken and ranch wraps highlight the subtle flavors of the ranch dressing. Our favorite ranch dressing to use in these wraps is the NEW Hidden Valley® Simply Ranch because it’s made with no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. It’s made with real ingredients like buttermilk, garlic, onion, herbs and spices, all with a creamy taste!

You can find Hidden Valley® Simply Ranch in the dressing aisle at your local supermarket or Walmart super store. It comes in 3 delicious flavors. You can go with the Classic Ranch or spice things up with the Cucumber Basil or Chili Lime!

For the chicken, you can use rotisserie chicken, leftover chicken, fresh grilled chicken or any type of cooked chicken you have on hand. To make the wraps, simply fill an 8” tortilla with cheese, cooked chicken, minced cilantro and lots of ranch dressing. Grill on a pan for a few minutes per side to crisp up the tortilla and melt the cheese.

If you’re in the mood for more, go ahead and add some diced avocado, tomatoes, cooked bacon, lettuce or whatever your little heart desires and enjoy these tasty wraps any time of the day!

What Makes McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli so good?

With delicious maple honey turkey slices, spinach, tomatoes, hummus, mayo, and Dijon mustard layered in a wrap, this Healthy Spinach Turkey Wrap is as satisfying and filling as it is tasty. It’s a delicious, good-for-you alternative to the boring sandwiches or other common lunches we often eat.

I get bored eating the same things over and over, which makes it harder to eat healthier if I don’t regularly “mix it up.” Do you get stuck with the same ol’ meals too?

One of the simplest and smartest ways to stick to a diet, whether you’re eating Paleo, counting calories or following a more general healthy lifestyle approach, is to make sure you have easy-to-make food on hand. If you have a delicious, good-for-you option already waiting for you or something that a quick minute to put together, you’ll be less likely to reach for the snacks or junk food or whatever your temptation may be.

This Healthy Spinach Turkey Wrap recipe will only take you a minute or two to put together and is loaded with wholesome ingredients you’ll feel good about eating.

I have to say that my favorite part of this healthy turkey wrap is the deli meat. Deli meat can pretty much make or break a wrap or sandwich.

That’s why I highly recommend McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli, which offers handcrafted, all-natural meats and cheeses since 1907.

My family follows a gluten-free diet and we avoid most processed foods, refined sugars, meat with hormones, steroids, antibiotics, etc. So when I tell you that I absolutely LOVE McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli and my family does too, it’s not just because their food tastes amazing.

With McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli, you’ll find:
  • turkey, chicken, pork, and beef raised without antibiotics EVER
  • no growth hormones
  • no nitrates or nitrites added*
  • gluten-free
  • vegetarian fed
  • 100% natural
  • no MSG
  • sourced and crafted in America
*except for those naturally occurring in sea salt and celery powder

I am thrilled to find an affordable deli meat with all those pluses. So many deli meats are loaded with nitrates and nitrites or are sourced from animals loaded with hormones or antibiotics and it’s great that McKenzie deli meat is not one of those.

McKenzie offers the highest quality whole muscle meat and crafts meats and cheeses with delicious flavors using clean, wholesome, recognizable ingredients. The company was founded in rural Burlington, Vermont in 1907 with the simple mission: to put quality above all else. and now distributes to stores throughout Vermont, New York, and other New England locations, including New Hampshire (where I live.)

We tried 6 different varieties of McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli, including 4 turkey and 2 ham, and each one tasted delicious.

My whole family, from my husband down to my 7-year-old, loves McKenzie Artisan Deli Meat. In fact, we made a special trip to a different store when our normal Shaw’s grocery store was out of stock.

My husband was so excited, he wanted to make Healthy Spinach Turkey Wraps for dinner for the whole family, which I gladly agreed to. (Talk about an easy supper!)

Turkey, Hummus and Veggie Wraps – fresh, delicious and 210 calories, perfect lunch.

It’s Sunday, which means it’s the last day of my vacation, back to work tomorrow. But that’s OK, it was a great week, got lots of rest so I’m ready to start the new year at work. One of the great things this week is that I was able to cook and prepare lots of healthy meals, like this wrap.

I cannot begin to tell you the amount of flavor in this wrap and it comes from the fresh veggies, hummus, which I love and the fresh lime juice I squeezed on the veggies. This turkey, hummus and veggie wrap is one of my favorite lunches. It’s so quick to make, and you know what, it’s only 200 calories, so you can’t beat that, you can even have 2 wraps, and trust me that will fill you up. So fill this wrap with lots of veggies, your favorite ones, I used bell peppers, green onions, cucumbers and tomatoes. Yummy, that’s all I can say.

I made a few extra ones, wrapped them up in plastic wrap and put them in the fridge for quick lunch or snack. Well, it drives my husband crazy, he says, every time he opens the fridge that’s all he looks at and wants to grab one because they’re so good.
