Fit Celebrities Swear by These 7 Tips to Stay in Shape

Celebrities are constantly juggling busy work schedules, but they’re always conscious about staying slim and in shape for every event they attend. They’re keen about eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle to remain red-carpet ready. Even when on vacation, A-listers manage to stay svelte. Want to know how they do it? Check out these seven things fit celebrities do to stay in shape.

1. They make time to work out

Nutritional biochemist, Shawn M. Talbott, told The Huffington Post weight loss is 75% about a healthy diet and 25% about exercise. With busy schedules, celebrities don’t always have the time to work out, but they improvise to squeeze in a session whenever they can. Supermodel Gisele Bündchen works out in her hotel room using resistance bands, and David Beckham has no problem hitting a boxing class when he’s with the kids. Making time for a short sweat session whenever possible is also great for keeping a clear mind during a busy day.

2. They do interval training

Since celebrities don’t always have the time to work out daily, they aim to maximize their results by opting for intense bouts of exercise. Harley Pasternak, a Los Angeles trainer who has worked with celebrities like Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Kanye West, tells ABC News he uses high-intensity circuits that are short in time, but effective in boosting metabolism and toning muscles. They’re quick and torch fat by working your heart rate to its maximum. These workouts can even continue to burn calories after the session is over.

3. They do well-rounded workouts

Cardio is great for aerobic fitness and lifting weights is essential for building muscle, but neither is enough on its own. Celebrities usually combine both forms of exercise when they train. Carrie Underwood is a proponent, telling Women’s Health she mixes both cardio and resistance training whenever she can. Her cardio exercises are anything from sprints to boxing to jumping rope, and she incorporates weights and bodyweight exercises for resistance. Some celebrities also like to take spin classes, train with boxing, and work their muscles with CrossFit.

4. They practice yoga

Don’t forget about yoga. | iStock.com

Celebrities love yoga because it’s known to connect our minds with our bodies, working your muscles at the same time. In fact, it may be just as effective for building strength as anything at the gym. When you practice yoga, you are learning how to lift your own weight and balance your body. You also practice proper breathing techniques with each exercise and build muscle endurance over time. Yoga is also great for weight loss, preventing injury, reducing stress, and improving sleep. It’s no wonder celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Biel, Adam Levine, and Sting all practice this exercise.

5. They get outside when they can

Exercising outside has more benefits than just the fresh air. It’s also a way to de-stress, build self-esteem, and lift your mood. While you might think celebrities prefer to work out indoors to get their privacy, this really isn’t the case. Ashley Greene likes to surf and hike, Naomi Watts enjoys running, and Mark Wahlberg likes to tee up for a round of golf.

6. They switch things up

It’s easy to fall into a rut if you’re doing the same thing day in and day out. That’s probably why celebrities play around with their diets and exercise routines. You’ll notice they’re always leaving different fitness studios, eating at a variety of restaurants, trying new diet trends. Keeping exercise exciting makes it easier to stay on track with your goals because you’re never bored. Fitness trainer Jackie Warner told Glamour our bodies adjust to workout routines in six weeks. To continue building strength and working your muscles, it’s important to make changes, even small ones, to keep your muscles guessing.

7. They’re mindful of what they eat

Because they’re always busy and usually on the go, celebs fuel their bodies with wholesome foods that will give them the energy that they need through the day. According to Well+Good, many stars like to follow an 80/20 diet. The idea is they consume nutrient-rich foods (think vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates) 80% of the time, and allow themselves whatever they’re craving the other 20% of the time. The best part about this way of eating, is that nothing is off limits. It’s about moderation. This creates a sustainable lifestyle that allows for balance, optimal health, and enjoyment. Followers include Jillian Michaels, Kate Bosworth, and couple Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen. It’s no wonder they’re all so in shape.

We all know celebrities maintain their bodies with a little—nay, a lot—of help from folks like personal trainers, private chefs, professional aestheticians, and maybe even a plastic surgeon or two. But that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t still practice more attainable habits to preserve their killer physiques.

In the interest of seeing what some of the world’s most beautiful women do to keep fit—and maybe even get in shape for spring ourselves—we’ve rounded up 27 diet and exercise secrets from super-svelte celebrities.

1. Wear a corset to flatten your stomach like Jessica Alba
Alba confessed to Net-A-Porter’s magazine The Edit that she had difficulty bouncing back, body-wise, after giving birth to her two children Haven and Honor. “I wore a double corset day and night for three months. It was sweaty, but worth it.” she said. “It was brutal; it’s not for everyone.”

2. Nix gluten like Miley Cyrus
Since her “Hannah Montana” days, Miley has changed quite a lot, but apart from her image, her body also has gotten noticeably thinner and more toned. When people started buzzing the she’d adopted an eating disorder, Miley responded by saying that her weight loss was due to a switch to a gluten-free diet and regularly doing Pilates—evident by her super-lean, strong frame.

3. Kale, kale, kale like Gwyneth Paltrow.
To drop fast weight before promoting “Iron Man 2,” Paltrow doubled up on sessions with trainer Tracy Anderson (her real diet secret!) and stuck to a strict eating plan, which she outlined on Goop. In a nutshell: Every morning, she drank a glass of kale juice after her workout, then had a low-carb Mountain Valley wrap for lunch, and then turkey kale soup for dinner. She also allowed herself a glass of kale juice and a few almonds in the afternoon. Check out her full plan here.

4. Try the Alkaline Diet like Elle Macpherson
The gorgeous supermodel (aka “the body”) told the Daily Star she follows the Alkaline Diet, which involves eating mainly alkaline foods like fresh produce, roots, nuts, and legumes in order to keep the body’s pH between 7.35 and 7.45.

5. Cut down on red meat like Rosie Huntington-Whitley
The supermodel told Vogue Australia that while she loves food, she recently cut out a lot of red meat, since she didn’t crave it anymore. “And since I cut it out I have noticed how much lighter and better I feel. 6. Don’t fear the weights like Michelle Obama
“You don’t have to be a weightlifter,” FLOTUS wrote while guest-editing iVillage. “I know a lot of women get worried about muscle definition. But actually, I’ve been told by fitness experts that the average person will not bulk up on the weights that we can lift. You want to have some weight training in your routine, especially as women, to make sure we’ve got strong bone density. And it helps with that toning, those little areas that we don’t like that flap a little bit, that aren’t as tight. That’s where lifting comes in, once you’ve gotten your cardio in there.”

7. Do yoga for long muscles like Jessica Biel
“Yoga is a constant for me because it keeps my muscles long and flexible,” she says. “But now that summer’s coming around, I’m planning on spending more time outdoors playing volleyball and jogging with my dog, Tina,” the ultra-toned actress told Elle.com in 2011.“

8. Memorize calorie counts like Kate Hudson.
“My friend Ginnifer Goodwin told me about this app MyFitnessPal, and then I got obsessed with it, because knowledge is power. I was like, That means I can have three slices for a meal!” Hudson told Self.com.

9. Ditch the dairy like Megan Fox
After having her first baby in 2012, Megan Fox admitted that she didn’t work out much afterward, but did stay away from dairy. “I’m not eating dairy, that’s my biggest secret,” the actress told Hollyscoop. “It’s really hard on your hormones and it’s not good … If you want to gain weight, eat dairy. If you don’t, don’t eat it.”

10. Don’t starve yourself, says Naomi Campbell
“I don’t believe in starving myself. I’ve never done it, and I never will,” Campbell told Shape. “I’m even more active when I’m juicing, doing both yoga and Pilates every day.” She said her eating plan is clean, and she starts the day with hot water with lemon and an intense yoga session.

Miranda Kerr (Wireimage)

11. Have sex like Miranda Kerr
The gorgeous model—who split with hubby Orlando Bloom last year—told GQ magazine in March 2014 that the lack of sex is making her lose her muscle tone. “One thing I’ve noticed is now that I’m having less sex my body isn’t as toned,” she says. “The more sex I have, the more defined my arms and stomach get.”

12. Rely on green tea, ballet, and … vodka like Carine Roitfeld
When we asked the iconic fashion editor, 58, how she stays so slim during an interview last year, she was as honest as honest can be. “I’m very low key with my body because I don’t diet … I drink green tea all day long, and at night I drink vodka. So each night, I have my vodka. I’m not an alcoholic, but I do love vodka. And then I do ballet. French women—we eat everything. In America, you don’t eat this, you don’t eat that. In France we are not like that. We have an easier way of eating.”

13. Only eat 5 ingredients like Eva Mendes
The sexy star reportedly lost 15 pounds with the five factor diet, which consists of consuming five meals daily, each of which consists of five ingredients. The target ingredients include protein, unsaturated fats, fiber, carbs and a drink containing no sugar. Oh, and there’s a cheat day.

15. Squeeze in workouts like Rihanna
When she’s on the road, the singer tries to squeeze in at least three workouts a week, at least 25 minutes a day, her trainer Harley Pasternak told People StyleWatch. But once settling into one location, Pasternak says she “increases her workouts to five days a week and bumps her cardio to a total of 30 minutes a day from 10.”

16. Choose what’s worth it Like Minka Kelly
Talking to Self.com, the “Friday Night Light” actress said she’d rather indulge her sweet tooth than try to satiate it with impostors. “I don’t feel like dinner’s done unless I have a sweet. 17. Give into the neuroses like Gwen Stefani

“The Biggest Loser” trainer Jillian Michaels told Health magazine that eating well doesn’t have to mean swearing off everything you love “Make “80 percent of the food you eat healthy and take 20 percent of your daily calories and make them fun.” Otherwise, you’ll feel deprived—never a good sign when trying to establish better habits.

21. Adhere to the Blood Type Diet like Kate Upton
The model’s trainer Justin Gelband told Self that he suggests the Blood Type Diet, which finds the best nutritional plan based on your blood type. “Your blood type has a lot to do with the way your body digests, processes, and metabolizes food,” he said. “The method is 90 percent accurate.”

22. Stick to Weight Watchers like Ginnifer Goodwin
Goodwin told Health magazine that she’s followed Weight Watchers since she was nine years old. “I have been a member of Weight Watchers for 23 years and I’m back on it right now, “she said. “It’s the only thing on the planet that doesn’t dehydrate you or just make you miserable,” she continues. “I’ve never had a dramatic weight problem, it’s just that I tend to indulge, and then I need to get back on track so I can button my pants.”

Martha Hunt (Getty Images)

24. Try out the Megaformer like Martha Hunt

It’s a great way to clean your system right away…Just drink lots of juice and get lots of sleep.”

Audrey Hepburn was known for being a superstar actress and a timeless beauty, but also for having an enviable figure. So, it’s no wonder why many folks — even today — are curious about Audrey Hepburn’s diet. While many modern celebs in this day and age turn to green juice, limp salads, and fad diets to stay trim, Audrey Hepburn’s approach to eating couldn’t have been more different.

According to those who knew and loved Audrey the most, she absolutely adored pasta — and did not shy away from eating her favorite carb by the plateful. Her youngest son, Luca Dotti, explained to People: “She would eat it almost every day. Her absolute favorite was spaghetti with tomato sauce. She could live on that alone.” (Psst: If you want to try making Audrey Hepburn’s spaghetti al pomodoro for yourself at home, you can find her recipe right here.)

Although Audrey devoured pasta quite often, it certainly wasn’t the only thing she enjoyed. Robert Wolders, who was Audrey’s partner from 1980 until her death in 1993, revealed more of her go-to meals in a separate People interview: “We had brown bread with jam for breakfast, lunch would be chicken or veal or pasta, often with vegetables from the garden, and for dinner we often had soup with chicken and vegetables. She had chocolate after dinner, baking chocolate. She had a finger or two of Scotch at night.”

As you can probably guess from Robert’s recollection, Audrey Hepburn’s diet really wasn’t much of a diet at all. So how did she eat all those decadent foods (pasta, chocolate, and Scotch, for starters), and still stay trim her entire life — even as she got older?

Robert credits Audrey’s ever-trim figure to a healthy metabolism, a habit of walking for miles at a time, and for not being “excessive” (even when it came to exercise). Meanwhile, Audrey’s son Luca chalks it up to his beloved mother being good at listening to her body and being “lucky with her physique.”

Luca revealed in an interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle that Audrey also did a detox day about once per month. This detox would consist of fruits, veggies, yogurt, and tons of water. According to Luca, Audrey was most likely to do this detox to get over jet lag after a long flight.

But on an average day at home, Luca revealed in a Bon Appetit interview that Audrey had a regular knack for checking that meals on the table included a variety of different colors. These colors often came from produce such as carrots, potatoes, farmers’ market vegetables, and fruit. As we know now, research suggests that eating nutritious foods with different colors can reap many health benefits. Sounds like Audrey was ahead of her time — in more ways than one!

“People think because she was skinny that she had an eating disorder, but it’s not true,” Luca told People. “She loved Italian food and pasta. She ate a lot of grains, not a lot of meat, and a little bit of everything.”

Audrey Hepburn poses for a modeling photoshoot

Audrey Hepburn left the world 25 years back, but to this day, her fans remember her for her exceptional acting skills and amazingly thin figure. If you have also been her fan for a few decades now or you have become a fan after seeing some of her movies, then you might be curious to know what workout and diet plan helped her to stay amazingly thin and so full of energy.

Here are the details of her workout regime and diet plan along with details of her very real struggle with starvation, her ideas on wrinkles, and her attitude towards plastic surgery.

Diet Secrets

Though many people accused the British actress of suffering from an eating disorder that made her notoriously thin. These were just rumors.

She was never partial to dieting and loved Italian foods. She was a great fan of grains, meat, and every available food, according to her son, Loca Dotti.

Diet Plan

The diet of the diva was simple yet healthy. Her diet plan is mentioned right here:

Breakfast

Brown bread with jam

Lunch

Lean meat or pasta with fresh produce from her garden

Dinner

Chicken soup with vegetables

Diet Indulgence

The beauty liked to indulge in baking chocolate, eating it and having one or two fingers of Scotch after her dinner.

A Pasta Fan

The model was a huge fan of carbohydrates and crazy about pasta, according to her younger son Dotti. He even thinks that she was addicted to pasta. Her signature dish was spaghetti al Pomodoro, and she cooked it at home almost every week. She was also a fan of spaghetti with tomato sauce and might have lived on that alone.

Workout Routine

Hepburn’s longtime partner Robert Wolders once shared that though she didn’t have a specific workout routine, she liked to walk a lot. She often took long walks with him and beat his fitness levels just in walking.

When she was walking, she decided on a number like she had to walk 5 miles that day and stuck to it. According to Wolders, the stunner had a healthy metabolism and yet she was not excessive.

Dealing with Starvation

Many women these days like to starve themselves to lose weight. The humanitarian was a bit different in this regard because she faced actual starvation during World War II. She was the daughter of a British father and a Dutch Baroness.

Her father left the family when she was 6, and she barely survived the German occupation of Holland that started when she was just 11 years old. She literally starved during the war, and this might be the reason for her being thin most of her life.

By the end of the war, she was very close to death. She survived the seemingly toughest phase of her life by drinking water and eating nettles and tulip bulbs. At that time, she was about 5’6” and weighed 88 lbs.

She also suffered from edema and jaundice during that time. She suffered from anemia the rest of her life as a result of this bad phase of her life.

Loving Herself and Her Imperfections

Audrey was never afraid of her imperfections but she rather embraced them. Towards the end of her life, she was asked by an American photo magazine to pick her favorite photograph. She selected a picture of her with a child on one of her missions for the UNICEF.

In the picture, she could be seen holding a child in her arms, and both of them laughing. The photographer asked her whether she wanted to photoshop her wrinkles (which were quite visible in the picture), but she refused and said that she earned every one of them.

Thoughts on Plastic Surgery

Sean Ferrer, the Head of Audrey Hepburn Society at UNICEF has stated that the film and fashion icon never even thought of getting plastic surgery. She thought that wrinkles were symbols of age, wisdom, and experience. (We think the women of today can learn the art of self-love and appreciation from the blue-blood beauty, won’t you agree?)

She could live on that alone.”

Regarding Chocolate, her Son Luca states, “She ate it every day. A bite or sometimes more. She had a special drawer in the house where she would put her chocolate and it was forbidden to touch. She would get upset if someone finished it before her. Chocolate was her favorite pick-me-up.” This was Audrey Hepburn’s Favorite Chocolate.

Don’t Over-eat – Eat till your 80% full

“Do you want to super size that?” Audrey Hepburn wоuld hаvе sаіd “Heaven Forbid!” аnd ordered а kid’s meal. Audrey Hepburn Detox Program:

This is an important part in the Audrey Hepburn Diet because she swore by detoxing at least once a month. It was Audrey Hepburn’s Golden Rule.

One Day out of the month do the following:

  • Drink at least a gallon of water
  • Eat plain Yogurt as
  • Eat 1 apple for each meal

Listen to your Body

If you are tired, don’t push through your tiredness. Your body is telling you that you need sleep to repair itself, so you need to listen to it.

If your body isn’t hungry for a favorite type of food after eating it too many times… your body is telling you something. (obviously don’t i’m not talking about candy and sugar! But I’m talking about healthy foods)

“My mother was very good at listening to her body. She was lucky with her physique but she had normal plates of pasta. Mum had a serious pasta addiction. She couldn’t do without pasta.”

Need More Advice or a Program?

I’ve been in your shoes trying to lose weight. What the most frustrating thing is that whatever you try never seems to work. Here are some great tips to lose weight that you might not have heard.

  • Green Vibrance – This is the best green drink to get. Not only is it chalk full of vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to lose weight and detoxify, but it also has probiotics. Read up on the effects probiotics have on your weight and mood, it’s really fascinating.
  • CHANGE your diet – Start eating WHOLE foods, minimize carbs and sugar. Stop eating junk food that YOU think is healthy! It probably isn’t, go research it!
  • EXERCISE Smart – Forget running and jogging – Do more High Intensity Interval Training and Lifting Weights. Jogging has very little benefits to losing weight.
  • Eat consistently – Don’t Binge eat, and don’t go for days without eating. Get on a schedule that your body can adapt to instead of trying to guess what you’re doing.
  • Intermittent Fasting – There are some really promising studies that have come out that say that intermittent fasting (fasting short periods like a meal) is great for your body, paired with exercise.
  • Garcinia Cambogia – Haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard good things about it.
  • Green Coffee Bean Plus – Controls hunger & Increases metabolism
  • Sheer Thermo – Natural way to accelerate burning fat and metabolism
  • Cellulite Brush – Doesn’t solve it 100% but it helps out.
  • Hot Cream for Cellulite – Gid rid of that nasty cellulite. This doesn’t get rid of everything, but it helps the process

However, Let’s not try to be “skinny”… let’s try to be HEALTHY.

You should also check out this diet program! A friend recommended it to me, so I was researching it and found that it has really good reviews. Definitely worth checking out.

Ве You & Be Happy

The psychology and power of the human mind is unfathomable. We really don’t know how powerful it is. Being Happy will benefit your body physically. Your thoughts are energy. Could you be controlling your body on a cellular level without knowing it? Are your thoughts manifesting themselves? Accept yourself and who you are and stop being so hard on yourself. Audrey Hepburn was a big advocate in being happy. Her famous quote, “Happy girls are the prettiest girls” is true. You can take that physically or mentally. Audrey Hepburn nеvеr hаd cosmetic surgery. Ѕhе wаs unashamed tо lооk hеr age аnd wаs beautiful wіthоut lооkіng fake.

Іn Conclusion – Time-Tested Beauty Tips

One оf Audrey Hepburn’s favorite quotes wаs frоm Sam Levenson:

  • For attractive lips, speak wоrds оf kindness.
  • For lovely eyes, seek оut thе good іn people.
  • For а slim figure, share уоur food wіth thе hungry.
  • For beautiful hair, lеt а child run hіs fingers thrоugh іt оnсе а day.
  • For poise, walk wіth thе knowledge you’ll nеvеr walk аlоnе.

Moviestore/REX/Audrey Hepburn: the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star remains a style icon even 26 years after her death (in fact, people are still dressing up as her for Halloween). She played a major part in the popularity of the little black dress, and, with a 5’7″ stature and 110-pound weight, had an enviable figure. In fact, many have speculated that she had an eating disorder, but she did not. For most of her adult life, she led a very healthy lifestyle. Hepburn survived starvation during World War II, which her family has said may have contributed to her lifelong thinnness. The daughter of a Dutch baroness and a British father who left the family when Hepburn was 6, she barely survived the German occupation of Holland, which began when she was 11.

“By the end of the war, she was very close to death,” says Dotti. “She survived by eating nettles and tulip bulbs and drinking water to fill her stomach. She was almost 5‘ 6” and weighed 88 lbs. She had jaundice and edema. She suffered from anemia the rest of her life, possibly as a consequence. … She was the same age as Anne Frank and said: “That was the girl who didn’t make it and I did.” Her voice would crack, and her eyes would fill with tears.”

Jean Harlow’s Husband Committed Suicide Under Very Suspicious Circumstances Photo: Paul Bern/Wikimedia Commons/Public Domain

In 1932, Jean Harlow’s husband, producer Paul Bern, died of an apparent suicide. His body was found naked in their home with a gun in his hand, along with a note, which read:

Dearest Dear,
Unfortuately this is the only way to make good the frightful wrong I have done you and to wipe out my abject humiliation, I Love you.
Paul
You understand that last night was only a comedy

The police assumed this to be a suicide note, though could make neither heads nor tails of what it actually meant, given Harlow’s refusal to talk about it other than to say she was at her mother’s house the night of the suicide.

MGM, Harlow’s studio, quickly moved in to clean up the situation. Irving Thalberg, head of production, and Louis B. Mayer, studio head, arrived at Harlow’s home the morning the body was found. Perhaps something nefarious was afoot; research conducted years after the case suggests Bern most likely did not commit suicide.

While living in New York years before meeting Harlow, Bern was romantically involved with struggling actress Dorothy Millette, who became his common-law wife. She suffered from mental and emotional problems. One day Bern found in her in a coma. Doctors said she would likely never come out of it. Ten years later, Bern was with Harlow, and Millette woke up and contacted him. He set a date to meet with her at his house, and sent Harlow away for the evening (according to some accounts, he provoked an argument to get her to leave the house).

Bern supposedly died the same night he arranged to meet Millette. Nine days after Bern died, Millette’s body was found in the Sacramento River, leading researchers to believe she killed him.

The golden age of Hollywood will always be renowned for its timeless glamour, but the biggest stars of the 20th century had a few unusual tricks to achieve their timeless beauty – some more extreme than others.

Katharine Hepburn

A leading lady in Hollywood for over 60 years, Katherine Hepburn’s career was sustained by her powerful onscreen performances, which earned her four Academy Awards, and a wit as sharp as her cheekbones. But off screen, Hepburn maintained her perfect skin with an all-natural face scrub made from lemon juice, sugar and water. Lemon juice contains vitamin C which can reduce collagen breakdown, and is proven to reduce wrinkles and redness. When combined with sugar as an exfoliator, Hepburn’s simple trick ensured that she always looked fresh both on and off screen.

Joan Crawford

As one of the few stars to successfully make the transition between silent films and ‘talkies’, Joan Crawford relied on a relatively simple yet somewhat extreme beauty tip to ensure that her skin always looked its best. Every morning, Crawford would rinse her face exactly 25 times with icy water, to the point where her face and hands would hurt with the cold. With cooler temperatures proven to reduce puffiness and dark circles – and a surefire way to wake you up first thing in the morning – Crawford combined this tip with her other trick of excessively chewing gum to tone her jawline.

Sophia Loren

Possibly the most enjoyable beauty tip on this list to indulge in, Italian beauty Sophia Loren claimed that “Everything you see, I owe to spaghetti!“. More specifically, Loren recommended copious amounts of olive oil to maintain a youthful glow, the oil being rich with vitamins with which to hydrate the skin. Not content on simply eating it with her pasta, she reportedly would also bathe in olive oil and rub it into her face as a moisturiser, the natural antioxidants working to keep her as beautiful today as she was in the golden age of Hollywood.

Grace Kelly

Years before it became a mainstream beauty trend, Grace Kelly (later Princess Grace of Monaco) was using contouring to highlight her beautiful bone structure. Kelly used two shades of blush to craft her look, applying a light blush along her cheekbone and a darker blush in the hollow of her cheeks. The blush softly sculpted her face, enhancing her features and earning her renown as one of Old Hollywood’s most beautiful starlets. Kelly also advocated regular use of hand lotion, as she believed that “‘A woman’s age shows on her hand much quicker than anywhere else.”

Marilyn Monroe

Though it’s over 50 years since her death, the blonde icon remains one of the greatest beauties of all time, and with great reason. Marilyn Monroe’s glamour was achieved through a number of beauty tricks, the most consistent being her use of vaseline, which she applied over her makeup in order to achieve a glow effect on camera. She also enhanced the natural peach-like fuzz on her face, again loving the glow it gave her onscreen. To attain her captivating gaze, Monroe often trimmed her false eyelashes in half, only applying them to the outer corners to get an enhanced yet natural-looking stare.

Marlene Dietrich

Though the modern trend is for thicker, fuller brows, the 1930s had very different beauty standards, and eyebrows were sculpted to be very thin and arched. Marlene Dietrich opted to completely shave off her natural brows entirely in order to pencil on her eyebrows herself, placing them higher than her natural arch and keeping them incredibly thin. This is only one of many beauty extremes Dietrich went through; she also threaded her hairline until it bled in order to move it back, and removed her back molars to achieve a hollowed out look and emphasise her cheekbones.
