Like a fine (organic) wine, Jennifer Lopez seems to be getting better with age.

After nearly 20 years in the limelight (yep, Selena came out in 1997), you’d think that the singer, dancer, and actress would be slowing down a bit—but you’d be wrong. This year alone, she released a new single and music video, starred in the TV show Shades of Blue, acted as a judge on American Idol, and performed her show in Las Vegas in between. But how does the star—who just celebrated her 47th birthday in July—keep up her never-ending energetic star power?

She chalks it all up to a serious fitness regimen.

While she’s been known to regularly dabble in dance cardio with Tracy Anderson as her personal trainer-slash-choreographer, she’s also stuck to the classic—but hard-core—mix of cardio and bodyweight training created by her longtime trainer David Kirsch to keep her figure in check (including a certain signature asset).

While she may not be taking up the new boxing trend (on Instagram at least) or trying out every buzzy new studio, she’s definitely not afraid to work up a serious sweat—and rack up the squat count—in the name of fitness.

Sumo Lunge to a Side Kick with Squat Jump

1. Stand in a “sumo” position with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, knees bent, and bodyweight over your heels.

2. Take a large step sideways with your right leg, bringing your right knee in toward your chest and then over to the right in one continuous movement.

3. As soon as your right foot touches the ground, bring your knee back into your chest and complete a side kick, kicking your right heel out to the side.

4. Lower your right leg to the floor, returning to sumo position. Squat down while keeping weight in your heels and stick out your butt. Keep your knees directly above—not in front of—your toes.

5. Spring up while thrusting your arms overhead. Land on your heels, rolling forward onto your toes. Repeat with a sumo lunge and side kick with your left leg and another squat jump. Continue alternating right and left until you have completed 15 lunges on each side and 30 squat jumps.

Reverse Crossover Lunge to Lateral Lunge

1. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Step your right leg back and behind your left leg and lunge, almost as if curtsying.

2. Reverse to return to the starting position.

3. Step your right leg out to the side laterally, without pausing. Step into your right heel, keeping the right knee aligned with the heel. Your anchor leg should be in a ninety-degree angle. Keep your hips, heels, and knees forward and aligned. Repeat, but step your left leg back. That’s one rep. Perform 15 reps (or 15 lunges) on each side.

Plie Toe Squats

1. Start with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart and turned out at 45-degree angles with your hands on your hips. As you squat down, simultaneously lift up your heels as high as you can.

2. Return to starting position—that’s one rep. Perform 15 reps.

Single Leg Deadlifts

1. Start with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart. Balancing on your right leg, bend at the waist and reach your left hand down to your right foot; extend your left leg straight behind you.

2. Keep both hips square during the movement and return to the starting position. That’s one rep. Perform 15 reps on each leg.

Jennifer Lopez’s Bodacious Booty Workout

Actress, singer, designer, dancer, and mom Jennifer Lopez may have a sizzling career, but she seems to be better known for that infamous, beautifully bodacious booty!

With glutes that defy gravity, J. Lo has made curves a good thing in Hollywood. How exactly does the dynamic diva hone her hot bod, other than just being lucky with genetics? We got the secrets to her sexy figure directly from the source-the powerhouse personal trainer who worked with Lopez for more than a decade, Gunnar Peterson.

“If you want to enhance the shape of your butt, as well as tone and tighten, the most important exercises are squats and lunges,” Peterson says. “Be sure to use weights, weights, weights, and weights… and then some weights!”

Peterson recommends moves like twisting lunges and a variety of squats from different angles to target the butt muscles, obliques, and lower body.

Fitness expert, author, trainer, and nutritionist Kathy Kaehler, who has also worked with Lopez, agrees. “The more muscles you can target at different angles, the better!”

So for example, channel your inner-J.Lo and bring out that backside by using dumbbells with a basic sit-down squat, then take it to another level by adding kettlebells with a split squat.

In addition to strength training, make sure you remember to add in that cardio. “Cardio is a must, anywhere from 20 minutes a day to an hour,” Kaehler says. “Just change it up and try different things-like the elliptical, the bike, and the treadmill to more explosive moves like sprinting, the stairs, and plyometric exercises that will kick up the heart rate and demand that power.”

What about that pesky cellulite that plagues many of us? “Watch the dressings and sauces. Avoid sodium at all costs,” Peterson says. “Not even ‘low sodium’ soy sauce on your sashimi.”

The talented trainer also recommends getting a deep tissue massage whenever possible, to help your rear, gams, and thighs look their best.

As for diet, Kaehler advises to stay away from diet food in a box. “Follow a well-balanced diet with real food and practice good portion control,” she says. “Have a healthy protein, fat, and complex carb with every meal.”

“Eat clean food as close to its natural state as possible,” Peterson says. “Leafy greens, fruits, some complex carbs, and adequate protein-beef is fine if you want it, but I’d keep it only at once a week. And plenty of water! Start early with that and stay late!”

This Workout Move Is How J.Lo Gets Her Famous Booty

Jennifer Lopez has always been an icon. After all, it’s hard not to love someone who has a permanent residency at one of Las Vegas’ biggest hotels, guest judges American Idol, is half of an A-list power couple, acts, and has a repertoire of dance-worthy hits to boot. But despite a long-running list of accolades, perhaps what the star is most famous for (other than that green Versace dress) is a rockin’ body. Celebrity trainer David Kirsch — whose clients include Margot Robbie, Britney Spears, and J. Lo herself — shared the scoop on the one workout move that will help get you that famous J. Lo booty.

The good news is that, according to the trainer, getting a killer beach bod in 2018 doesn’t require as much time as you may think. “The key is less is more now, truncated workouts. The two hour workouts are gone.” When it comes to working with the celebrity specifically, Kirsch approaches it with brevity. “When Jennifer comes in we do a 30-45 minute workout,” he says.

His go-to for sculpting J. Lo’s backside? The platypus walk. “The quickest, most effective workout for your butt says is the platypus walk,” he says. This low squat technique works “the inner thighs and lifts and tones the butt.” Since you can do this workout pretty much anywhere, even without a gym, it’s a “no-excuses” method.

In addition to this move, Kirsch also developed similar easy, full body workouts that cater to his other celebrity clients. This includes everything from a planking exercise for Margot Robbie, to a floor move with gliders for Britney Spears. • Jennifer Lopez, 50, just shared her butt and leg workout on Instagram.
  • She filmed herself doing leg presses with three 45-pound weights on each side.
  • J.Lo does multiple workouts to keep her booty in shape, including seated leg curls and dumbbell lunges.

Jennifer Lopez is a fitness queen. But she’s also just like us… girl’s got a job (she’s currently filming a new movie, Marry Me) and has to find time to fit in her sweat seshes. On Tuesday, the 50-year-old Hustlers star shared her post-work workout with her Instagram followers, and it’s seriously impressive how much weight she’s pushing in her leg presses.

“Just another Tuesday… After work workout. 💪🏽,” she captioned her post.

J.Lo literally has three 45-pound weight plates on each side of the bar she’s pushing. For those keeping track at home, that’s 135 pounds—on each side. So yeah…she’s strong, especially in the butt and legs department.

Which fans already knew because J.Lo. She’s always in the gym and often blesses her followers with a sweaty and svelte selfie. Between her “It’s My Party” tour this past summer, her stripper film Hustlers (which she also learned to pole dance for), and her upcoming Superbowl performance with Shakira, J.Lo still always makes time for the gym to keep her body fit.

And her fiancé Alex Rodriguez often joins her. He actually posted a video of them working out together this past week, which included J.Lo doing a seated leg curl, dumbbell lunges, and leg presses. They also worked out together over the summer during her tour, when they made a stop at the Dallas Cowboys training gym to get their sweat on using a Fitplan App routine.

Both she and A-Rod have said they love TruFusion, a fitness studio with a variety of classes including yoga and bootcamp in rooms heated up to 120 degrees. And they have tried fasted cardio, and also did a 10-Day Wedding Workout Challenge together. It seems like there’s nothing J.Lo won’t try to keep her body looking oh so strong.

Jennifer Lopez’s ample booty is now famous worldwide. But even when she was growing up, the star reveals her family praised her butt.

“In my family, curves were glorified and part of the culture,” J.Lo declared in the cover story of InStyle’s December issue. “It was just like, ‘Jennifer has a big butt, and it’s good.’”

The “Jenny From the Block” singer, who declared herself “a proud Bronx born Puerto Rican American” on Twitter this summer, famously grew up in the Bronx borough of New York City.

She’s discussed her crew’s praise of her cheeky asset before: In 2014, she told L.A.’s Power 106 station that the public’s fascination with her backside astounds her: “In Hollywood, it’s a little bit of a novelty. But for us, who grew up where we grew up, it wasn’t that big of a deal! From when I was very young, my family would be like, ‘Jennifer’s got a .’ I was endowed in that area.”

Starting her career as a Fly Girl on In Living Color, JLo has always been fit — though she’s arguably in the best shape of her life at 49. “It’s crazy,” David Kirsch, one of her trainers, told Us in July 2018. “Like the most amazing bottle of wine, she gets better with time and that is just the truth. Her skin is flawless. Her body is flawless.”

The Shades of Blue actress works hard to keep it that way. Her workouts are non-stop, high-energy sweat sessions of continuous movement (think: plank to side plank to medicine ball toss to lunge). “The workouts are my express workouts. There is no rest, there is no, we’ll grab a quick breath chatting in between, but that’s how we do it,” Kirsch, who is the fitness and wellness curator at CORE: Club in New York City, told Us. “The workouts are very focused and the eating is very focused… She’s very mindful of her body being this beautiful temple and really respecting it.”

For the past year and a half, the star — whom Kirsch says “doesn’t drink” — has been dating former New York Yankees slugger, Alex Rodriguez. And she told the mag she credits social media for lessening the intense scrutiny she received during her romances with Sean “Diddy” Combs and Ben Affleck in the late ’90s and early ’00s. “Now people get to see that this guy they thought was this hard-nosed athlete is, like, a goofy dad who loves his kids and celebrates his girlfriend,” she says.

Something else the World of Dance judge believes is improving, albeit slowly: the treatment of women in Hollywood. “It has taken time,” she says, “but I think we’re in a very powerful moment where women are going, ‘Wait a minute. We’re not afraid to say what we deserve.’”

J.Lo Turned 49 and the Internet Can’t Stop Talking About Her Bikini Photos

J.Lo, aka “Jenny from the Block,” turned 49 this week and wasn’t about to let her birthday go by without reminding the universe why she is more than just a triple threat. On top of headlining a Vegas show at Planet Hollywood, collaborating with Inglot Cosmetics on her own makeup line, releasing new music and staring in Shades of Blue, the actress-singer-dancer also works her infamous butt off in the gym, and she has the incredible body to show for it.

Lopez didn’t hold back this week, posting three sizzling images of her killer physique as she celebrated with friends and family. As Racked pointed out, media outlets went straight for the “doesn’t she look great for her age” rhetoric. And in some sense, it’s true, it does get tiring to see accomplished women reduced down to their appearance, as if they were simply a head on a body. But this is J.Lo we are talking about. She wants us to talk about her killer curves, she is after all, the woman who started the big booty craze, and despite her numerous contributions to the arts, she will forever be tied to that deep plunging Versace dress that made us reexamine what is considered an appropriate dress code.

A post shared by Jennifer Lopez (@jlo) on Jul 22, 2018 at 12:34pm PDT

If looking at J.Lo’s body as fitspiration for what you can accomplish at any age is wrong, I don’t want to be right. Does she also raise two children, executive produce television shows, sing duets with Cardi B and film blockbuster movies while also being named one of Time’s 100 most influential people in 2018? Yes, she does all of that. But she also works really hard on her exterior to defy gravity, logic and Mother Nature, and I am totally here for it.

From Jennifer Lopez to Kim Kardashian: How Butts Stole the Spotlight From Boobs

In 2004, people Googled ways to make their rear ends smaller. Today, it’s for ways to make them bigger. Now, in this heyday of derriere, stars turn their other cheeks to the cameras, and rear enhancement is the fastest-growing plastic surgery.

This story first appeared in the March 20 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

What did this year’s Grammy gowns have in common? From Nicki Minaj in her fringed black Tom Ford to Iggy Azalea in a blue Armani Prive, from Beyonce in a black holey Proenza Schouler to Lady Gaga in a silver, thigh-revealing Brandon Maxwell — and, of course, Kim Kardashian in a wide-open vintage Jean Paul Gaultier bathrobe dress — ladies were much more interested in showing off their barely covered derrieres than their ample cleavage (also on display but not as attention-getting). There were lots of butt-to-the-camera poses and provocative stares over the shoulder. There were even backward gown squats with a bit of wiggling and wriggling. Forget the mani cam. It’s all about the butt cam these days.

It might sound crass, but it hardly can be disputed: Ladies and gentlemen, butts are blowing up all over, with even English aristocrats getting in on the act (e.g., the “Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society” Facebook page).

When a body-change phenomenon hits Hollywood this hard, it can’t be swept under the red carpet. The old lollipop female shape (stick figure, big head) first gave way to the lollipop with big cleavage, but now the desirable body shape has evolved to a pulchritudinous hourglass that places more value on butts over boobs.

Cameron Diaz’s model-trim rear in 2010 represented the ideal until recently.

With the celebrated broadening of behinds, the word “hipster” has a new meaning. Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Miley Cyrus and selfie queen Jen Selter have made the “belfie,” or butt selfie, all the rage on Instagram, and special “belfie sticks” are being marketed for taking a better photo from behind. It used to be men who sang about booties — going back to Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls” (1978), Sir Mix-a-lot’s “Baby Got Back” (1992), The Black Eyed Peas’ “My Humps” (2005) and Major Lazer’s “Bubble Butt” (2013) — but as of last year, women have owned the theme (though Destiny’s Child did give it a big bump in 2001 with “Bootylicious”). In 2014, red-carpet rearview pioneer Jennifer Lopez — who helped make the backside the focal point of both female eroticism and fashion — finally acknowledged her cultural contribution with her “Booty” video (a collaboration with Azalea), which was joined by Minaj’s “Anaconda” (close-ups of shaking cheeks worthy of an X rating) and Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.” By the time Cyrus grinded hers into Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Awards, booty-popping and twerking had crossed over as a dance craze. And after Kardashian broke the Internet in November with her booty-baring Paper cover, the rest was hindsight history. (The trend also has sparked controversy over cultural appropriation of black women’s bodies.)

There was a time when American women would do anything to minimize the size of their buttocks — Spanx, dieting, jogging — after the waif archetype took over fashion in the ’90s. In 2004, the most common Google searches in the U.S. for “changing one’s butt” were concerned with how to make it smaller. In 2014, these inquiries were outnumbered in every state by searches asking advice on how to get a bigger butt.

Jennifer Lopez is widely cited as kicking off the bigger-butts trend. At the 2012 Oscars, she with co-presenter Cameron Diaz boosted booty buzz by showing their rear views to the audience.

Lisa Reisler, who with partner Susan Bloomstone invented Booty Pop padded panties in 2010, says: “We are now selling a pad that’s 40 percent larger than when we launched, and there are tons of requests. It used to be if your husband said your booty looked big in jeans, it was an insult. Now, it’s a compliment. The power of celebrities over body image is immense.” No doubt helped by Minaj and J.Lo, sales of the undies ($22), which require a larger jean size or two, have increased 40 percent in the past six months.

According to the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, desire for bigger behinds in the past five years has led to the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure, the “Brazilian butt lift,” in which fat is liposuctioned from other regions in the body to pad and “pop” the butt. “The biggest jump percentage is in butt enlargements,” says Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Lawrence Koplin. “It’s a significant monetary surgery now.” Ninety-nine percent of women who are looking for butt augmentation are doing it by the fat-transfer procedure, notes Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Gabriel Chiu: “You can call it a twofer: You get to eliminate, via liposuction, a trouble area like love handles, belly, inner or outer thighs and put that ‘junk in the trunk.’ ” For a price: The cost begins at $9,500, the procedure takes three to six hours with a minimum of 10 injections per cheek, and most Brazilian butt-lift patients must sleep on their stomachs and cannot sit down for two weeks.

Beyonce, who claims to have invented the term “Bootylicious,” walked the carpet in 2013.

But a butt can’t just be big, it’s got to be curved, look good from the sides and back and pop out high from a comparatively slim waist. It’s got to “bubble” in jeans, and the old sexist cliche — that a woman’s rear should be high enough to balance a beer on — is now, in effect, a plastic-surgery goal. A skilled surgeon will use lipo to contour the abdomen, waistline, hips, lower back and upper thighs to enhance the bountifulness of the booty. “What makes a successful buttocks augmentation are technique, technology and time,” says Chiu. “That’s the difference between a ‘mass produced’ and a ‘bespoke’ butt.”

Going under the knife for a butt lift is still controversial. “Butt implants are rarely offered anymore” in the U.S., says Koplin, who has been recommending fat transfers in other areas as well for years. “They tend to have a synthetic look and don’t behave as realistically, and the risk of infection is high.” Bret Contreras, a trainer known as the Glute Guy who partners in the personal training service Get Glutes, agrees: “I’m very opposed to surgery for glute enhancement. Several case reports have emerged with severe consequences. If you could see the images, they’d horrify you.” Yet the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports a 98 percent increase in buttock implants since last year: “Butts are officially the new boobs,” says Booty Pop’s Bloomstone.

Lower-impact options like eating more won’t cut it — or build it. Contreras recommends “proper glute training and nutrition, but I’m not going to lie and suggest it’s easy. You need three training sessions per week consisting of heavy hip thrusts, squats, deadlifts and lunges, but the backside will look better and better every month. Some clients see a big improvement in three months.” Adds Get Glutes partner Kellie Davis: “Daily activity like clamshells, kickbacks, squats and hip thrusts are great butt builders. A diet of lean proteins, fruits and veggies, starchy carbs and healthy fats also does the booty good.”

Evolutionary psychologists interpret the phenomenon by saying that women with wide hips look more child-bearing-friendly, while small waists relay the fact that they aren’t already pregnant. There’s also evidence, according to University of Albany psychologist Gordon G. Gallup, that women with bigger butts have smarter babies due to “gluteal femoral fat stores,” specifically in the buttocks and thighs, which are high in omega-3 acids and promote brain growth as well as higher cognitive scores.

Dionne Stephens of Florida International University’s department of psychology has observed that “breasts are fetishized in the U.S. but not in Europe or South America, where women go topless all the time. The butt is the last taboo. Buttocks are the last body part women still have to hide. When women show their buttocks to men during sex, it’s a totally empowering position for men. For now, it’s about the hourglass, and here in Florida, so many women of all ages are wearing the faja.” That’s a thick corset or girdle that makes the breasts high and extended and the butt stick out. There are copious lines of clothes specially designed for larger derrieres: Nelly started Apple Bottom, Baby Phat was designed for hourglass figures, and Lululemon was built on the insight that regular women would pay extra for yoga pants that make their rears look good. Recent visits to lingerie stores in L.A. reveal that fajas are starting to be sold everywhere.

But this is not the first time in history that a large derriere has been prized. Spartan women performed “bottom kicking” of the booty to make it bigger. Peter Paul Rubens portrayed only full-bottomed women in his paintings in the 17th century. And Dr. Stephens brings up Hottentot Venus, a slave born Saartjie Baartman in 1797 in South Africa; Europeans were obsessed with her gargantuan backside. (Kardashian’s Paper shoot evokes historical images of Baartman.) “What’s different from previous historical periods,” says culture critic and The Power of Glamour author Virginia Postrel, “is that the ideal of curves coexists with the ideal of the athletically toned body. The new nice butts also have big muscles.”

So are butts really replacing boobs as the new erogenous zone? “Breasts and butts seem to be on alternating wave cycles in terms of popularity,” says Contreras. “Although both will always be very popular, usually one is getting more attention than the other. This time is definitely more about the booty.”

Jennifer Lopez Pulls A Nicki Minaj W/ ‘Natural’ Butt Pic: “Booty From The Block”

Music diva Jennifer “J. Lo” Lopez is steaming up the Internet this week with the release of sizzling artwork for her new “Booty” joint effort with Pitbull.

J. Lo opted out of featuring the Miami rapper on her single’s cover art and embraced her eye-catching lower backside.

Lopez took a rather revealing note from the Minaj playbook, releasing derriere-emphasizing artwork for her new single on Instagram. Aptly titled “Booty” and featuring Pitbull, the song marks the third single from “A.K.A.,” following “I Luh Ya Papi” and “First Love.” It’s not quite as jaw-dropping as Minaj’s, but it’s up there. The best part has to be the caption she posted, though: “#bootyfromtheblock #bootyandthebeat #naturalbooty #bootybootybootybootybootyeverywhere #jlobooty #LOL” (Huffington Post)

Last month, J. Lo and rap veteran Fat Joe premiered a new collaboration to the masses.

Nearly a decade after their last hit “Hold You Down,” Fat Joe reunites with Jennifer Lopez on “Stressin’.” The Bronx duo pop bottles and toast to life on the triumphant Rico Love production, which they debuted at J.Lo’s homecoming concert in June. “Let me ask you one question, do we look like we’re stressin’?” asks J.Lo. “‘Cause we ain’t.” (Rap-Up)

Joey Crack recently helped celebrate J. Lo’s 45th birthday.

Jennifer Lopez celebrated her 45th birthday with an almost life-sized cake of her riding a lion … and a bash that cost $100K! J.Lo threw the party for herself at Nammos restaurant in Southampton. A hundred guests sang happy birthday, including Khloe Kardashian, French Montana, Fat Joe, Kelly Ripa, Leah Remini, Andy Cohen and … Maksim, who showed up at 1 AM. There was a fancy, sit down dinner followed by dancing. The party ended at around 4 AM. (TMZ)

Lopez made headlines last year after landing an executive position at NuvoTV.

NuvoTV is getting a makeover thanks to Jennifer Lopez. The network providing culturally relevant programming for English-speaking Latinos, which was founded in 2004, has teamed up with J.Lo for a brand new movement. The Boricua pop star, who took a majority stake in the company last year, was officially appointed chief creative officer of the channel, which reaches an estimated 31 million homes nationwide. Though J.Lo looks all kinds of confident in the ‘gram, she recently opened up to Variety about her anxieties on playing an exotic dancer because it meant she’d have to wear a G-string on camera.

“I was terrified. I felt exposed. I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything like this. I’m going to be up there in f—ing dental floss. What is this? Who is this person?’ And then you get up there, and you have to have a ‘f— you,’ empowered attitude,” she shared with the magazine. “You have to take your power back. You have to be so bold… It’s a great character to play.”

Despite her insecurities, J.Lo put her all into preparing for this role by working out and eating right, with the support of her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez. They pushed through a 10-day carb-free and sugar-free diet challenge (as well as a 10-day workout challenge), and are always working out together. And, of course, A.Rod was there to cheer J.Lo on during her pole dancing rehearsals, which doubled as a sweat sesh and acting prep.

Hustlers premieres in movie theaters nationwide on September 13, 2019.
