Alongside his seemingly normal childhood, Smith enjoyed a second life as an up-and-coming Hollywood star. He made his acting debut in 2003, at the tender age of 6, on All of Us, a UPN show created by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and based on their own blended family. Not long after, Jaden made his big screen debut in the The Pursuit of Happyness (2006). Based on a true story, The Pursuit of Happyness depicts the life of Christopher Gardner, a homeless salesman whose intelligence and perseverance eventually allow him to become a wealthy stockbroker.

Success with ‘The Karate Kid’

Smith landed his biggest role to date in 2010, starring alongside Jackie Chan in a remake of the 1984 coming-of-age classic, The Karate Kid. Smith plays Dre Parker, a 12-year-old Detroit native who moves to China to study martial arts with a kung fu master, so that he can face down the bullies who torment him. The film was a box-office smash, earning Smith praise for his impressive acting and kung fu skills. Chan praised Smith’s dedication to his martial arts training, saying, “He put my son to shame!” Smith also ventured into the world of music in conjunction with his work on the film, recording its official theme song, “Never Say Never,” in partnership with pop sensation Justin Bieber.

After months of intensive martial arts training, Smith developed the physique of a much older boy, and he also earned a reputation as a lively and witty interview subject. Poor Reviews for ‘After Earth’

In 2013, Smith again teamed up with his dad to co-star in After Earth. This time, both the film and its young star received a harsh reception from audiences, as he “won” the Golden Raspberry for Worst Actor. Still, the experience seemingly soured him, leading to an extended hiatus from the big screen.

‘The Get Down,’ ‘Skate Kitchen’

Smith returned to series television in 2016 with The Get Down, about the rise of hip-hop and disco in New York City in the late 1970s. In 2018, he was part of the cast of Skate Kitchen, based on the real-life story of a group of female skateboarders.

Music Career

Following his collaboration with Bieber, Smith released a couple of mixtapes, The Cool Cafe and Cool Tape Vol. 2.


In November 2017, Smith unveiled his first studio album, Syre, which featured contributions from ASAP Rocky and sister Willow. Jada Pinkett Smith has described her fury when Child Protective Services were called to investigate her family.

The star admitted she had never been that angry after someone reported her, claiming she was starving Willow, who was 13 at the time.

It all started when the family was criticised for a photo of young Willow lying in bed fully-clothed with Disney star and family friend Moises Arias, who is seven years her senior.

The photo was innocent but a CPS investigation began anyway.

Jada, 48, said on her show Red Table Talk: ‘That was the first time I ever got furious.’

‘I was looking at the lady and the whole time I was thinking, “You could be helping so many kids right now,”‘ Willow, 19, said of the social worker. ‘And you’re wasting your time with a child who has everything they need.’

Although the social worker knew Willow wasn’t being starved, Jada still panicked and wanted her children – Willow and Jaden – to be on the ‘best behaviour’ when being interviewed.

‘My kids were like, “whatever,”‘ Jada revealed. ‘And that’s how they treated it. Her and Jaden… and there was nothing Will and I could do. We were just like, “please chill out.” And they were like, “No. This is stupid and it’s ridiculous”.

‘It was like their personal protest. The way they were conducting these interviews was literally like, “What are you doing here?”‘

‘We were gangster!’ Willow insisted. ‘I was eating in the interview!’

The singer opted for a bowl of cereal at 2pm, which made Jada even more anxious.

‘She was eating at two o’clock in the afternoon with a bowl of cereal… and she was like, “No I just got up. This is like my breakfast.”

‘Playing games, alright? Playing games! I was like, “They already think we’re starving you, you’re going to walk in with a bowl of cereal at two o’clock and say this is your first meal!” I was like, “Lord Jesus take the wheel!”‘

She admitted to purposely eating throughout the CPS interview out of spite.

‘I walked in with a bowl of cereal specifically because I knew that they said you were starving me,’ she admitted.

‘I was like, “You know what? I’m going to walk in with food and eat the entire time! I’m going to eat throughout the entire interview!”‘

When you meet Jada Pinkett Smith, it’s kind of hard not to be awestruck –happily married for almost 12 years to Hollywood heartthrob Will Smith, three kids, a successful career and a killer bod!

Surprisingly still full of energy after the Shape cover shoot, Jada sat down and talked openly about how she really does it all. “I won’t lie to you,” the Baltimore native admits. “I have a lot of help. It takes a village to run my life successfully!” It also takes a focused mind, total honesty, and a great sense of humor.

Get hooked on fitness workouts

Ever since she was kid, Jada’s been physically active, something her mother, a single mom and nurse, encouraged by enrolling her in classes for gymnastics, dance, and horseback riding.

“Sitting at home on a Saturday or Sunday was never an option,” says Jada, who has passed the torch for fitness workouts on to her own kids, Trey, 16 , Jaden, 11, and Willow, 8. “They love to go to the gym with Will and me, but surfing and snowboarding is what we do together as a family for fun.” Her mom gets in on the action when she’s in town, hitting the gym with Jada at 6:30 a.m. “She’s Miss Workout,” says Jada proudly.

Jada Pinkett Smith happily shares three important tips in living a healthy lifestyle.

This shift has also created a sense of balance in Jada’s relationship. “Will and I are yin and yang,” she says. “He’s all sky, vast and bright and soaring, and I’m all earth. I’m here to ground him, and he’s here to help me fly.” Case in point: When Jada put her acting career on hold between 2004 and 2005 to go on the road with her metal band, Wicked Wisdom, as part of the Ozzfest tour, Will not only supported her, he and the kids also went along for the ride.

Healthy lifestyle tips # 2: Nurture romance

While family is the couple’s main focus, Jada makes sure she and Will’s love life stays, well, lively. Besides doing her daily Kegels (“It keeps the sex hot,” says Jada), she takes time to nourish their relationship. “Last week we were stressed out, so I packed a picnic and took Will to a place we hiked to on one of our first dates. We sat and reminisced on that time in our life. Then we went home and made love. Thank God Will has simple tastes. Even the littlest thing for him is like, ‘Wow!'”

Healthy lifestyle tips # 3: Fuel your body…

Jada admits she is lacking in one area: “I can’t cook!” she says. “It’s genetic. My grandmother can’t cook, my mother can’t cook. I was raised to believe you eat because your body needs fuel for energy, so I eat superfoods.”

Jada does love to bake, however; her specialty is 7-Up cake, but she has to be careful about having desserts around the house, for Will’s sake. “He has a horrific sweet tooth,” she says. “If there’s cake in front of him, he’ll eat the whole thing!”

Jada is open about exactly how she gets her insane body – and making exercise a family activity is just one part of it.

“I started at age, and I’ve been doing it ever since,” Jada told W magazine of her commitment to training.

“We go hard. Because I’ve had so many different types of bodies, so I know I don’t need a trainer, and I know how to train her for what she wants. I know exactly what she needed to get, where she wanted to go.”

And you won’t catch this family lounging around on the couch on the weekends.

“Sitting at home on a Saturday or Sunday was never an option,” she told Shape.

“They love to go to the gym with Will and me, but surfing and snowboarding are what we do together as a family for fun.”

And although she works out regularly, Jada’s attitude to exercise is refreshingly realistic and balanced.

“It’s funny—my cardio workout varies. If I have a heavy carb week, I’ve got a heavy cardio week. I tell people all the time, ‘You can eat whatever you want, as long as you’re willing to put the work in’ and that’s a thing I had to learn,” she told Health.

“So I make sure I do something physical every single day. But that doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym and freakin’ kill yourself! I do 20 minutes of cardio a day,” Jada said.

“Everybody’s thinking you gotta be in the gym for an hour and a half. Literally, I’m never in the gym longer than 45 minutes. Just be consistent, that’s it!

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be intense, and you will see a difference. Just go out of your house and do a brisk walk! Every night, my mother and I take the dog and just walk, and that’s a ritual for us.”

She also loves to mix it up with weight and resistance training to keep her muscle definition.

“I do yoga. I also do a sled machine, which track runners use for training — you put a harness on and pull things. I do push-ups and some light weights because I’m definitely trying to go for a softer look with my upper body,” she said.

When it comes to diet, Jada is extremely disciplined.

“My real diet though, well, I don’t eat for pleasure. I probably had the only West Indian grandmother that could not cook. She was an awful cook, and she taught me that you don’t eat for taste, you eat for nourishment,” she told Essence magazine.

“And I have kept that over the years, so I can eat anything that’s healthy. I eat for my schedule so I have to eat high-protein, lots of greens and healthy carbs so that I don’t fall flat on my face.”

But she still has to eat plenty of calories to fuel her workouts.

“My husband’s trainer started giving me diet tips and he dismissed the myth that more carbs means you’re going to be unhealthy,” Jada said.

“What I realised is that I wasn’t eating enough of the proper foods like pasta and rice. I needed more of a high-carb situation in order to facilitate the amount of calories I burn.

“That meant more fruits, meant a lot of vegetables because those are carbs as well and, if I want, some pasta or toast or English muffins.”

And cheat days are totally allowed!

“French fries, and pizza… together. If I could have French fries and pizza every day I would really live off that.”

It’s not all fuel though. Smith also believes in the importance of balance and allows herself a few guilty pleasures. She’s said that pizza and french fries are her weaknesses, and she even likes to eat them together. But when she does give in to those guilty pleasures, she puts in the work to make up for it.

In an interview with Health, Smith said that she increases the intensity of her workouts to match her diet. More carbs mean more cardio.

She doesn’t eat pork or beef.

Smith’s protein choices are fish, chicken, and poultry, and she stays away from pork and beef. According to Health, she focuses on lean proteins to fuel her body, and even keeps hard-boiled eggs in the refrigerator for a quick protein-packed snack.

Despite admitting to Shape Magazine that her husband has quite a sweet tooth, she recently decided to cut out sugar from her diet. According to Smith, she found herself suffering from depressive episodes, likening it to an “emotional rollercoaster,” and she attributed these mood shifts to sugar.

Try to work to getting off of your knees and doing as many push-ups as possible a day until your arms look the way YOU want. Try different arm positions as well, hands in a triangle with nose to the middle of it for triceps, arms wide hands turned out for chest, and then the good ol’ classic push-up. No gym necessary. 🙂
