For those of you who don’t know, anorexia is an eating disorder in which a person starves themselves in order to be thin. It can be life threatening and is characterized by self starvation, and excessive weight loss. A lot of people with anorexia see themselves as fat, even though they are extremely skinny. People with anorexia will often weigh themselves all the time, and exercise a lot, and some even force themselves to vomit, all to keep themselves looking skinny. Some even hide food and throw it away.

The ironic part is people that are anorexic are so skinny that they look horrible. It is estimated that around 2 million people throughout the world suffer from anorexia, It is mostly women that have it, but some men do experience it as well. It can be life threatening, due to malnutrition.

This can happen to anyone. One would think that someone who has the confidence to be a famous musician or actress would not suffer with anorexia, but this isn’t true. All sort of women that are successful, famous and popular, have had backgrounds where they have struggled with anorexia.

Here are 10 Female Celebrities That Were Anorexic.

10 Nicole Richie

via www.celebitchy.com

Nicole is famous for many things. She is the daughter of world famous singer Lionel Richie, Paris Hilton’s sidekick, who was a childhood friend, on a well known reality show called The Simple Life, and she also used to have some severe drug addiction problems, which thankfully she kicked. What a lot of people don’t know is that she also suffered with anorexia. She mostly had this issue in her younger years. Now at 34 years old, she says she can still be critical of the way her body looks, but she has come a long way in dealing with her issues.

9 Snooki

via www.dailymail.co.uk

Snooki, whose real name is Nicole Polizzi, is one of the last people that anyone would expect to have suffered with anorexia. As a star of the hit reality show Jersey Shore, she is known for being a party girl, eating and drinking a ton, and even being just a tiny bit overweight. But it is true, Snooki suffered with anorexia while she was in high school. She was on the cheerleading squad, but was replaced by a girl who was skinnier than her, which sent her in to a bit of a tail spin about her weight. Snooki is skinny again, now. Let’s hope she is doing it in a healthy way.

8 Brittany Snow

Evanna is known to most as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies, although she is well known in Ireland as an actress and model. What isn’t known to most is that she had a horrific bout with Anorexia that lasted four years. This started at the age of 11, and in fact the character of Luna Lovegood helped Evanna get through her struggles. She was inspired by the fact that Luna embraced her own oddities, which helped Evanna get through her own struggle. She uses her fame to promote positive body image and healthy self-esteem with teens.

6 Trojan Bellisario

Trojan is best known for being one of the stars of Pretty Little Liars, but what a lot of people don’t know is that she struggled for years with anorexia and even with harming herself. She is from California and her parents are both producers of many famous TV shows including Magnum PI and NCIS, which according to Trojan had something to do with her issues. “I was the youngest daughter, the perfect little girl,” she said. “My school was a very intense college prep school. So it was about wanting to please my father and mother and wanting to be perfect to everybody.”

5 Victoria Beckham

4 Alanis Morissette

You might find it ironic that someone that is so popular, and seems as put together as Alanis Morissette was anoxeric but she was. While Alanis is thought of as a strong woman, as a teenager she struggled with both anorexia and bulimia She had this to say about her experience: “I began recovering at 18, when a sweet friend confronted me. A very wise and experienced therapist really helped, too. And as I started getting into women’s issues, suddenly I didn’t feel alone in these quandaries about food and my body. Still, eating issues dogged me through my 20s.”

3 Mary Kate Olsen

It seems that Mary Kate, and her twin Ashley, have been around forever. They started as babies when they were together on the show Full House, and after being famous actresses for quite a while, over the years they have turned into powerful business women and fashion designers. It hasn’t been all easy for Mary Kate though, as she has struggled with anorexia. In the year 2004 it was announced that Mary Kate was to enter treatment for it. It seems that she has been doing much better since then, but she was hospitalized at one point for what was reported as a kidney infection.

1 Kate Beckinsale

via greathdgallery.com

Kate Beckinsale is thought of as one of the most beautiful women in the world, which makes anorexia all that more complicated. If one is so gorgeous than how could one be so insecure? But Kate was. She had a nervous breakdown when she was 15 and developed anorexia, and was in constant treatment for years. Thankfully this all seems to be behind her now. She has done some modeling, but has made her fame as an actress, both in her native England and here in the U.S, appearing in such movies as Much Ado About Nothing and Pearl Harbor.

KB: I do find it extraordinary that men are so prepared to pay for your dinner here. That simply never happens in England. When I first got together with Len, I couldn’t understand why it seemed like he was always trying to get into my side of the car. He was holding the door open for me! I don’t know what you teach American men in school here, but you have to keep it up, because it’s extremely charming.

GLAMOUR: We try! Now, do you think the ideal “look” in England is different from that in Hollywood?

KB: What’s considered ideal in Hollywood is completely different than anywhere else in the world. I don’t think you can aspire to it, nor can I. Everybody is retouched, stretched, lengthened, slimmed and trimmed. I could look at a picture of myself from the past and think, why don’t I look like that now? It’s because I never have!

GLAMOUR: Have you ever been unhappy with overly retouched photos of yourself?

KB: I’m more upset about what they haven’t done. The six-foot-long legs I ordered never arrived!

GLAMOUR: You gained 20 pounds to play Ava Gardner in The Aviator. What was it like to gain weight for a role?

KB: There’s always a slightly defeating moment where your regular jeans won’t fit and you’re going, holy smoke, I can’t get that button anywhere near! But my body needed to look more robust to play Ava. At the time, I was early into my relationship with Len, so I could have covered myself in dirt and he would have gone, “Wow!”

GLAMOUR: Well, you’ve got a rockin’ body. What’s the most drastic change it has ever gone through?

KB: When I was pregnant, everyone told me you’re going to be one of those women with a little football in front. And then this…thing, this Scooby-Doo monster belly arrived. I gained 65 pounds. Every single part of my body was thicker—even my scalp! But that’s the advantage of being young—it went right back.

GLAMOUR: You struggled with anorexia as a teen. Do you think you’ll share your story with your daughter?

KB: I haven’t yet—I don’t want to call too much attention to it. But in general, I believe anorexia, alcoholism and drug abuse in teens are more about what is happening in the home than a problem with images in the media. It’s the nice girl’s way of becoming a crack whore. It means they are in some kind of pain that needs to be addressed.

GLAMOUR: So what’s one question you’d like never to be asked again?

KB: Well, I’d like to have finally answered the anorexic question so profoundly and definitively, that would be the end of it. The only reason I ever brought it up in the first place is because when I was young, I read a lot of misinformation about eating disorders. But because I picked the wrong magazine to tell my story to, I wished I’d never said anything. It was totally sensationalized and that’s been a real drag. I felt terribly violated.

GLAMOUR: And where do you see yourself in 10 years?

KB: In a few years, I’d like to be back home in England; poor Len will be trying to understand what we’re all talking about. Careerwise, I’d like to do some theater. Now that my daughter doesn’t require me to put her to bed every night, I can be a teeny bit more selfish and immerse myself in a project in a way I found difficult to do when she was younger. But who knows? My life has not been predictable. I never would have imagined I’d be living where I’m living, doing what I’m doing or married to an American guy. I’m interested to see what will happen next!

Kate Beckinsale Shares How Eating Meat Changed Her Body

Kate Beckinsale really likes what exercise does for her body and mind, but she’s the first to admit that it doesn’t always come easy. “I start out absolutely dreading it, do an incredibly punishing workout, bitch about it the whole time, and end up feeling 100 percent better when I leave,” the 43-year-old says. “Working out is basically nature’s antidepressant.”

No surprise, then, that Kate is feeling awfully good these days, considering she has been spending hours in the gym with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson, who began whipping her into shape before filming the fifth installment of the Underworld franchise, Blood Wars, which hits theaters January 6. “I work out hard with Gunnar five or six times a week,” she says. “We have loads in common, like our kids.” (Kate’s daughter, Lily, is 17.) “During our sessions we have long talks about teenagers, and then suddenly one day I find that my ass is in a lot better shape than I thought it was!” (Here, a quick workout of celeb-approved moves from Gunnar, plus his tips for sculpting abs like Kate’s)

All that quality time with her fitness guru has taught Kate some valuable lessons about making an exercise routine pay off-physically, mentally, and in terms of loving life. Here, her words of workout wisdom.

You have to really challenge yourself. “I do circuit training interspersed with brutal cardio, such as crazy things on a nonmotorized treadmill. That part is torture. But the thing I like about circuit training is that you’re never doing one thing for very long. You get to the point where you almost can’t bear it, and it changes to something else.”

The more you sweat, the better. “I love yoga, and that’s all I used to do. But hardcore workouts have really made a big difference in my life. I have a lot of internal energy, and intense exercise helps me channel that energy. I find balance by doing a workout that makes me pour sweat. I never was that girl before, but I am now.”

Eat the foods that are right for your body: “I was a vegetarian for a really long time because I am incredibly squeamish about meat. But when I was filming Pearl Harbor, I didn’t have enough energy, and the trainer I was working with at the time said ‘You’ve got to start eating chicken and fish.’ So I did, and that helped me. Lily and I eat clean-we have a lot of sautéed vegetables like brussels sprouts and broccoli and chicken and fish. Also, I don’t drink alcohol. I feel very quickly, so I’ve never actually had an entire glass of anything alcoholic.”

Exercise in the a.m., even if you’re not a morning person. “I basically wake up, eat breakfast, and then work out. I prefer to get it done in the morning. That said, I don’t naturally get up early. It would be much better for me if the entire world went to bed at 4 a.m. and woke up at noon. But it doesn’t, so I’m usually staggering around first thing.”

Kate Beckinsale works out five to six days a week, as she shares in her cover story interview for the latest issue of Women’s Health. “I wake up, eat something, and go straight to the gym,” she says. “Then, if I’m going to do cardio I’ll do it later on in the day.”

Celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson is the genius behind the routines that got Kate those abs, even at 46 (and he also works with stars like Khloe Kardashian and J-Lo).

He says Kate does fast-paced, total-body exercises with an emphasis on her core.

For a workout similar to Kate Beckinsale’s, Peterson offers up this at-home routine. He recommends doing it a few times a week for optimal results.

In order to get the most out of the exercises, he suggests staying tuned in to your workout (sorry, not a great time to turn on Netflix in the background). “Don’t drift off and just go through the motions,” he says. You need focus to do the moves with correct form (which is what’ll score you the best results).

Time: 15 minutes

Equipment: Mat, dumbbells (optional)

Good for: Total body

Instructions: For each move, complete three sets of the indicated number of reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Then continue immediately to the next exercise (no rest between moves) until you’ve completed all five exercises.

1. Bodyweight Squat

How to: For the first set, start with feet shoulder-width apart and arms by sides. Sit hips back and lower down until thighs are parallel to the floor, bringing hands together in front of chest. Rise back up to start position. That’s one rep. Complete three sets of 15 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets and moving feet slightly wider for each set. Continue on to the next move with no rest in between exercises.

2. Twisting Shoulder Press

How to: Start standing with feet mat-width apart, hips facing forward and arms bent so elbows are near ribcage and hands are at shoulder height with palms facing each other (option to hold a pair of dumbbells to make the move more challenging). Rotate torso to right side, pivoting on ball of left foot to turn left toes slightly toward right foot, as you lift arms straight up overhead, bringing biceps by ears to frame face. Return to start. That’s one rep. Repeat the move, rotating torso to the left side this time. Complete three sets of 16 reps, alternating sides as you go. Rest for 30 seconds between sets, then continue on to the next move with no rest in between exercises.

3. Superman

How to: Start lying face-down on the floor with arms and legs straight, shoulder-width apart, and resting on mat. Lift all four limbs, plus chest, to hover off the floor and hold for one breath. Keep gaze on the ground a few inches in front of you, neck relaxed. Return to start position. That’s one rep. Complete three sets of 12 reps, resting for 30 seconds between sets and moving arms and legs slightly wider for each set. Continue on to the next move with no rest in between exercises.

4. Pushup With Shoulder Tap

How to: Start in plank position. Bend elbows and lower down until arms form 90-degree angles. Press back to start. At the top of the pushup, touch right hand to left shoulder. Repeat on the other side. That’s one rep. Complete three sets of 12, resting for 30 seconds between sets. Then continue to the next move with no rest in between exercises.

5. Bicycle Crunches

How to: Start lying down on back with hands behind head, shoulder blades off the mat, legs lifted and bent at 90 degrees, shins parallel to floor. Engage abs and rotate right elbow toward left knee as you extend right leg to straight, hovering it a few inches off floor. Return to start and repeat on the other side. That’s one rep. Complete 30 reps, alternating sides as you go. Rest for 30 seconds. On the second set, complete 40 reps, then rest for 30 seconds. On the third set, complete 50 reps.

Kate Beckinsale Glute Workout: Build Buns Like Beckinsale

As vampire death-dealer Selene in the Underworld series, Kate Beckinsale kicks so much @ss she might as well buy in bulk. If Costco sold butt, Beckinsale would buy it and kick it. Unlike peers from other vampire franchises, Beckinsale doesn’t needlessly opine, pine for lost loves, or shimmer in sunlight. Instead, she dodges bullets, smashes faces, flashes fangs, bites the foolish, and slings death in a skin-tight, all-black leather suit.

As film critic Michelle Alexandria of Eclipse Magazine notes, “She doesn’t whine, moan, or sparkle — she just kicks the butt of anyone who screws her over.” That’s our kind of girl at Bodybuilding.com.

She looks great doing it, largely due to a strong lower body and a dangerous, feminine physique. Even if you’re not an Underworld fan, Beckinsale is a role model for those in the business of building a better booty. Of all the silver-screen queens, she has one of the most powerful posterior chains: sculpted glutes, toned hamstrings and a strong back.

Want your own screen-worthy posterior? Let’s hit the gym.

Superior Posterior: Plyometrics

One of the most effective training methods used by movie stars, but often ignored by most, is plyometric jump training. People often cast plyometrics in a bad light, thinking they are specifically for athletes. This is a major misconception. Most muscles in the hamstring and glutes are fast twitch (they respond better to quick, explosive contractions than slow, heavy movements). Don’t get me wrong, traditional movements have a place, but they’re more effective during a training cycle.

Ignoring the upper back is another common posterior-chain training mistake. A growing body of evidence discusses how fascia, a paper-like substance surrounding muscle tissue, limits or allows muscle growth. The fascia theory connects the hamstrings and glutes to the upper back. Training those areas together stretches the fascia and encourages development. Want a better backside? Then you better train your entire back.

Follow this workout for 4-to-6 weeks to emphasize posterior chain development. You will build a Beckinsale booty, but we can’t guarantee that you’ll kick immortal ass.

Day 7: Rest

How old is Kate Beckinsale? Whether she’s stepping out with a younger man — we’re looking at you, Pete Davidson and British comedian Jack Whitehall! — or wowing in a revealing gown on the red carpet with her toned legs, arms and abs, fans frequently wonder the actress’ age. And time and time again, the Pearl Harbor actress — who, for the record, is 46-years-old — proves that age really is just a number.

Part of the reason she’s in such great shape: The action hero star learned a thing or two about keeping an intense fitness regimen after leading vampire flick Van Helsing and helming the Underworld franchise. A client of celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson and a regular at his Beverly Hills studio for five-plus years, the British star is dedicated to her workouts. “Kate is a six-day-a-week person,” Peterson told Us in August 2018. “She’s definitely up there among my hardest workers. I mean every single day is push, push, push.”

“Anybody I’ve worked with, I think the reason they seek me out is because they know that we’re going to get the work done, it’s going to be safe, it’s going to be as fun as that can be and they’re not going to cut any corners,” adds the pro. “It keeps them on the straight and narrow that they hold themselves to.”

And Beckinsale, who separated from her Underworld director husband Len Wiseman after 11 years of marriage in 2015 and later divorced, goes into every session knowing what she signed up for! “I start out absolutely dreading it, do an incredibly punishing workout, bitch about it the whole time, and end up feeling 100 percent better when I leave,” she told Shape in 2016 of her days with Peterson.

Outside the gym, the mother of 20-year-old Lily (with ex and close friend Michael Sheen) keeps it healthy on the diet front too. Reveals Peterson, “She doesn’t have a sweet tooth.” Nor does she waste calories on cocktails. “I don’t drink alcohol. I feel very quickly, so I’ve never actually had an entire glass of anything alcoholic,” the star, who eats a predominantly plant-based diet, also told the fitness mag.

Speaking to the publication, she revealed that while she keeps on top of her fitness regime, she doesn’t always find it so fun.

“I start out absolutely dreading it, do an incredibly punishing workout, bitch about it the whole time, and end up feeling 100 per cent better when I leave,” said Kate.

“Working out is basically nature’s antidepressant.”

Kate revealed that while she loves practising yoga, it is the more intense workouts that change her body and mind.

Ageless wonder Kate Beckinsale landed the cover of the Jan/Feb issue of Shape Magazine, and needless to say, she did not disappoint. The 43-year-old actress revealed how she manages to stay in such insane physical condition, and her answers came as a major shock to me.

I just always assumed that she made a deal with the devil, but it turns out that she exercises like crazy and makes sure to eat healthy. She doesn’t even drink alcohol! She told Shape, “Also, I don’t drink alcohol. I feel very quickly, so I’ve never actually had an entire glass of anything alcoholic.” That’s insane to me. I’d rather look like I’m related to a manatee than not imbibe in the occasional frequent beer
