Boyfriend Proposes To Girlfriend After Her Cancer Treatment, Inspiring Viral Video

A Common College Experience

Like most girls who are off to college, Wendy Joseph was looking forward to what was to come during what would be some of the most formative years of her life. Wendy was born in Haiti, but had spent most of her life in New Jersey, and was off to college not too far away from her hometown.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

She was staying in the state to study public healthcare at Montclair State University. Everything seemed pretty standard, but that would soon be far from true. Soon enough, she’d come into contact with a young man who’d have a big part in her future. However, this seemingly typical “girl-meets-boy” story would take a dramatic turn with just one social media post.

The Ultimate Message

The year was 2006, and Facebook had only been around for about two years. The entire social media site was nowhere near the colossal media giant ubiquitously used by people of all ages and stages in life. At that point, it was mostly used by college students to connect with each other and with friends of friends, which is exactly what happened in Wendy’s case.

Facebook/Dan Hennessey

Wendy was new to Facebook when she logged on and received a message from a young man named Dan Hennessey. Dan had written a short note, just introducing himself, but Wendy felt a little strange about the message. She would later explain that she thought “first of all, I don’t know you, and I do not trust the Internet.” But the more she thought about the message, the more she knew she had to tell someone about it.

Sharing Some Details About The Mystery Man

According to Dan’s profile, he was a sophomore at Montclair State University, studying exercise science. He was 18-years-old, and Wendy was wondering why he would message a 17-year-old freshman. Since Facebook was not as developed as is it these days, Wendy was not able to get that much more additional information. But Wendy could still tell that she thought this Dan guy was pretty cute.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Shortly after Wendy received the message, she decided she needed to talk about it with her best friend, Daphne. Wendy pulled up his profile on her desktop and quickly noticed Daphne’s reaction to his profile. Her best friend realized a pretty incredible connection that the two had to this Dan character, and Wendy would not like what she was about to hear.

Connecting The Dots Between Dan And Daphne

Wendy would later recall what happened next on her YouTube channel, explaining that “Daphne looked at his picture and was like ‘Dan? He tried to talk to me too.’” That was enough for Wendy. “I was like ‘yeah, I’m definitely not going to talk to him because he tried to talk to my best friend.”

Instagram/OhWendyOh

An embarrassed Dan would later explain that he was scrolling through profiles on Facebook and wound up sending a message to Daphne. “Then,…I saw that one of her friends was Wendy, and I was like ‘wow this girl looks phenomenal, let me say hello,’” Dan recalled. Dan’s social media practices had landed him with a bad reputation in Wendy’s eyes, but this would not be the only time that social media would play a big part in Dan and Wendy’s story.

Leaving Dan On Read

Wendy knew that she was not about to message a boy who had originally reached out to her best friend. After all, she was just starting college, and knew that her dating options would be wide open. Wendy did not think much about Dan once she decided not to respond to his message. But on the other end of the computer, things were much different.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Dan, on the other hand, could not stop thinking about this girl he found on Facebook. At first, after not hearing a response, he decided to play it cool. But as time went on, he decided he would try his luck and reach out once again to Wendy, not knowing what she would say in response, or if he would even get a response at all.

Wendy Gets Yet Another Message From Dan

After a brief period of taking the passive route, Dan decided to be direct. He reached out once again to Wendy and tried to start a conversation. Wendy was confused about why the same man who had messaged her best friend was, once again, contacting her on Facebook. She started to do a bit more digging.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

To Wendy’s surprise, Dan and her actually seemed to have a few mutual friends, including some friends from her hometown. With that confirmation, Wendy was pretty confident this was not a random, creepy guy off of the Internet. She decided to take the leap.

An Invitation To Connect

After a few desperate messages sent from Dan, Wendy finally decided to answer. From there, the conversation surprisingly seemed to flow. Over the course of a few days, Wendy and Dan corresponded back and forth over Facebook getting to know one another.

Facebook/Dan Hennessey

Both Dan and Wendy were new to online romance, and so they both were a little unsure of where to take their conversation. After a few days of chatting, Dan decided to go for it and arrange a face-to-face meeting. He felt like a formal date would be a bit too much, so he decided to go a little more casual and invited her to a party at his apartment. There was just one slight problem with his plan.

Some Last Minute Party Planning

Dan was so excited to finally be talking to Wendy that he offered for her to come to his house for the big party he was throwing. The college sophomore and his roommates in room 2A were used to throwing parties along with their neighbors. But this time, there was one problem.

Instagram/ShotsOfHennessey

“There was no actual party,” Dan later admitted in a YouTube video. “But if she had said yes then we would have created one.” Fortunately for Dan, Wendy agreed to come along to his yet-to-be-planned party with a few of her friends. Unfortunately for Dan, this acceptance meant that he had to put a party together, and fast.

The Night Of The Party

Dan was a basketball player at Montclair State University, and finding friends eager to come over for a last minute party was no problem. His roommates also agreed to get in on the plans, and they were all updated on the girl who Dan had been talking to on Facebook.

Instagram/shotsofhennessey

Shortly after the party started, Wendy arrived at Dan’s apartment with a handful of her friends. For the rest of the night, the two hit it off. “We danced all night, we were talking, but by the end of the night everybody left and we were still there,” Wendy said in a YouTube video. But anyone thinking that this is where a typical love story began would be wrong.

Not The Right Time For A Relationship

After the night of the party, Wendy and Dan continued to text each other. And it would seem to everyone else that these two college students were quickly forming a relationship. But not so fast. Soon, any hopes of romance would quickly fade for the two of them.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Despite an instant connection, Dan and Wendy decided to just stay friends. “She had gotten out of a relationship and I was kind of partying it up, so to speak, so we were not looking for anything serious,” Dan later recounted. “We were still really interested in each other.” But both Wendy and Dan’s friends could easily see that this friendship was bound to end, and that is exactly what happened.

A Friendship Quickly Becomes Something Else

Luckily for Dan and for Wendy, both of their respective groups of friends got along well, and the entire group began to hang out with one another. While Wendy and Dan were both set on remaining close friends, every one of their friends could see that there was something else there. Then, by the time Dan’s birthday came around, he had an idea.

YouTube/Wendy Joseph

Wendy had texted Dan with a happy birthday message when Dan responded and asked her to dinner to celebrate later on that week. The dinner finally came around and, according to Dan, “we decided ‘let’s actually try this and see where it can go.’” From that moment, the two were a couple. But this relationship would not last too much longer.

Here Come The Dating Troubles

With their friend groups already practically combined, Dan and Wendy went from seeing each other often to seeing each other all of the time. Things seemed to be going well, but behind the scenes, Wendy was facing some internal struggles related to her relationship.

Instagram/shotsofhennessey

Wendy had always been an independent person, and this new relationship had both of them becoming pretty dependent on each other. Over time, she could feel herself changing as the years of college were coming to a close. Wendy knew that she wanted to leave college and chase some big dreams. But first, she had to make a pretty difficult decision.

The Big Breakup

Wendy had formed her entire college life around her relationship, and she loved Dan. But as she approached post-college life, she knew that she had to start focusing on herself and building her own life. She had grown a lot over the years, and felt that she had more growing up to do…alone.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Before graduation, Wendy broke the news to Dan. She wanted to break up. Dan was heartbroken, but he would not say that he was blindsided. At the time, Dan was having some struggles of his own trying to figure out the next steps in his life. The two ultimately went their separate ways vowing to work on themselves. Meanwhile, both of them were about to start an unbelievable journey that neither of them saw coming.

The Making Of A Celebrity

Wendy’s journey to find herself led her to literally find and embrace her own natural beauty. After her breakup, Wendy started her own YouTube channel, which followed her journey to loving and accepting her own natural hair. Her candid tutorials and confessionals about natural beauty hit a nerve with viewers, and her YouTube channel, “Wendy’s Curls,” took off.

YouTube/Wendy Joseph

Wendy had soon become a YouTube star in her own right, bringing in over 60,000 followers at the time. Her videos featured hair tutorials, Q&A sessions, makeup tips and workout videos. This once self conscious girl was suddenly beginning to love her natural self as an independent person. Then, a coincidence threatened to derail all of her progress.

A Casual Run In Leads To Something Less Casual

While Wendy had been finding herself, Dan was making progress of his own, but was still depressed by his love lost. The two had been broken up for about a year and a half, and both of them knew it was for the best, but the pain still remained. Then, one day, a chance run in changed everything.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

By coincidence, Dan and Wendy bumped into each other one day, and the feelings they had for one another came rushing back. Once again, the two connected instantly. They decided that after a year and a half of being independent, they were both ready to try a relationship again. And this time, social media would once again define their relationship, with one viral post changing their life paths.

Following Their Love Story

While Dan was working on his own fitness journey and Wendy was working on her YouTube channel, both of them had made significant headway in their social media following. Together, they had an impressive number of followers watching their love story unfold.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Over the period of their breakup, Dan had just bout 15,500 followers, while Wendy was reaching social media stardom with 87,000 followers. Both were posting pictures of their fitness regimens and other topics that interested them and their respective followers. But then one day, the two decided to post about something a little more personal, and opened themselves up to a surprising situation.

A Happy Anniversary

So much time had passed since their initial meeting in 2006, along with a lengthy breakup, that the two had almost lost track of the anniversary. They soon realized that they had been in each other’s lives for 10 years, an entire decade. With things going so well, the two decided to post on Wendy’s social media about their anniversary.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Dan and Wendy were used to sharing their relationship online, but this time was somehow different. Not only had both of them grown over the past 10 years, but both of them were also dramatically different in other ways. And soon enough, the world would take notice. When Wendy hit the ‘share’ button, she had no idea that there would be such a big reaction.

The Post That Changed Everything

Wendy decided to post two pictures side by side. The first showed the couple early into their college relationship. The second showed both of them in bathing suits 10 entire years later. “10 year difference! Left 2007, Right 2017,” Wendy wrote on Instagram.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Wendy’s post continued, “I used to have a perm and wear my hair stuck to my face everyday, and used to shave once a week! Now we take serious swimsuit pictures in different countries,” adding that “life comes at you fast.” The likes and comments started pouring in. The post quickly amassed over 60,000 likes and nearly 900 comments. They were both shocked, but when they started going through the comments, they began to understand why.

Reading Through The Comment Section

Wendy and Dan were both used to posting pictures of themselves together, especially since they had reconciled their relationship. So why was this post in particular getting so much attention? The comment section said it all, and they both could not stop reading.

Instagram/shotsofhennessey

“Did you both age in reverse?? What fountain of youth are you drinking from??” one commenter said. Another wrote “Why does it look like he’s dating the mom in the left and the daughter on the right.” One more “You wanna tell me how you aged backwards?” Wendy and Dan were overwhelmed by the support, and the post gave way to an incredible idea.

A Big Idea, Fit For The Couple

With all of the attention being directed on their “glow up,” this social media savvy couple knew that they needed to capitalize on being a viral fitness couple. From the start of their relationship, both Dan and Wendy had always been interested in nutrition, exercise and health.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

The couple thought that working together on a fitness related career path had always seemed like a natural next step. But this newfound attention gave both of them even more reason to pursue joint careers in the field. They quickly began to devise a plan for their futures that would turn into something huge.

Working Out And Working Hard

In 2014, Wendy and Dan had begun a small fitness blog. But when their viral post continued to gain likes, comments, and attention, the two decided to kick the blog into full gear. The couple announced that they would begin their own business, called True4You Fitness.

Instagram/OhWendyOh

Through their blog and other social media accounts, Wendy and Dan were determined to help others through their wellness journeys, just as they had experienced over the last 10 years. Their goal was to make health and fitness attainable for everyone, and used their own stories as prime examples. Little did they know that this fitness blog would only be the first of their big opportunities.

One Night In Paris

Both Dan and Wendy, along with their fitness blog, continued to gain followers. Their viral 10-year anniversary post was in their past, but the couple was working towards their futures. Then, on a September 2016 vacation in Paris, Dan decided to give Wendy the surprise of her life.

YouTube/Wendy Joseph

During a visit to the Eiffel Tower with Wendy and a few of their close friends, Dan decided the moment had come. Dan got down on one knee and asked Wendy to marry him. True to form for the couple, they posted the entire engagement on Wendy’s YouTube page for their fans to see for themselves. In that moment, Wendy explained that it seemed that life could not get better. Then, it did.

A Model Couple

Beyond fitness, health and nutrition, Dan and Wendy shared a love for another passion: travel. The two started posting videos of their travels all around the world on their YouTube channel. It was on one of those trips that they met another couple who suggested another career path to the pair.

Instagram/shotsofhennessey

The couple Wendy and Dan met both made a living as professional models. Since Dan and Wendy were already attracting a ton of attention on their social media accounts, their new friends suggested they look around at modeling agencies. Thinking it could be fun to at least try, Dan ended up reaching out to a few agencies. Then, he got an unexpected response.

A Picture Perfect Couple

Dan heard back from a handful of modeling agencies who not only wanted to meet with him, but they also wanted Wendy to come along for castings. The couple made their way through New York City to see if they would actually land any gigs.

Instagram/shotsofhennessey

The risk turned out to work in their favor, and both were soon signed as models, landing a handful of contracts. Dan was there to support Wendy as she starred in a Dove face wash campaign. Their success led the two to move to New York City to pursue their new modeling careers. And their social media following followed right along with them as they settled into their new lives.

Everything Is Working Out

Dan and Wendy followed their passions from the gym mats to photoshoot locations. Dan continued to work in personal training as well as modeling, while Wendy kept up her YouTube channel. And even with all of the global support they have received, both say their biggest supporter is each other.

Instagram/shotsofhennessey

While users on social media follow Wendy for her incredible weight loss journey and fitness tips, Wendy now says that her journey to self acceptance and self love is a never ending process. But throughout everything, social media was to thank for helping find her relationship, her YouTube celebrity status, and her career.

First, Baby Yoda broke the internet. Then, Baby Jabba the Hutt came along to ensure it would never recover.

Baby Yoda has been a mainstay of meme culture since the character, from Disney+’s “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian.” But on Sunday night, a fan art image of a slug-like, drooling Baby Jabba the Hutt, one of the villains from the original “Star Wars” trilogy, began to sweep Twitter into a frenzy.

The image is the creation of 3D artist Leo Viti, who is from Italy but now lives in London, England.

Viti, 28, told NBC News he’s been an artist for nearly a decade, making characters professionally for advertisement and marketing campaigns while creating images like Baby Jabba in his spare time.

Let our news meet your inbox. The news and stories that matters, delivered weekday mornings.

The image of Baby Jabba was published by Viti in November, but went viral on Sunday night after it found its way to Reddit, and was later amplified by actress Olivia Munn, according to ComicBook.com.

“It got bigger than I ever imagined,” Viti said. “I just wanted — I always liked ‘Star Wars.’ I grew up with it. I saw Baby Yoda, the YouTube videos about it. I love Baby Yoda. I actually wanted to do another fan art of Baby Yoda.”

But seeing how saturated the internet was with Baby Yoda content, Viti decided to try his hand at creating a different “Star Wars” baby.

“Jabba has always been one of my favorite characters, and I thought I’d do something about it,” Viti said.

It took Viti about two days to create the image of Baby Jabba. On the first day, he sculpted the image and on the second he completed the composition, he said.

“It was really quick,” Viti said. “A lot of stuff I’ve done in the past took a lot longer.”

The image took a while to go viral, but once it did, Viti said it exceed all expectations.

“I think I’m happy about it, but it’s such a weird reaction and totally unexpected,” Viti said. “I’m happy that people loved it and almost all of the people loved it. I’m quite happy about it.”

Despite his love for the “Star Wars” series, Viti said he’s unsure if he’ll tackle another character from the beloved franchise.

“Maybe. We’ll see,” he said. “I’m quite busy.”

If you’re going to splash the words “BREAK THE INTERNET” across your print magazine cover, you better be able to provide sufficient goods to support that claim. And, in the case of the dual covers of Paper magazine featuring Kim Kardashian that hit the ’net last night, accompanied with such a promise, they, we would assess, certainly delivered (even if the Internet did not, you know, technically break).

In one of the images, Kim is seen baring her world-famous behind—shined and polished to an extreme extent—while in the other she is opening a bottle of champagne which sprays behind her into a glass resting on her derriere. These images were shot by Jean-Paul Goude, the renowned French artist famous for his shots of Grace Jones (and the Kim champagne shot is an homage to Goude’s “Champagne Incident” work).

Kardashian tweeted the images, along with the amusing message, “And they say I didn’t have a talent…try balancing a champagne glass on your ass LOL.” Adorably, Kim’s husband, Kanye West, also posted the cover, with the caption “#ALLDAY.” While some—like Glee star Naya Rivera—bristled at the provocative shots, the general Internet sentiment seemed to be one of bemused appreciation. Lorde, in one of the best responses, reposted the photo with the word “mom” (the singer just released a collaboration with West). Meanwhile, as Kris Jenner orders poster-size copies for every room of her house, and as Paris Hilton decides to turn off her phone for the rest of the day, it seems obvious that—as the parodies and memes have already emerged—the “The View Hosts Get in Heated Debate over Kim Kardashian’s Paper Magazine Covers” headlines will emerge in the next few days, the “Grandmas React to Kim’s Paper Magazine Covers” video will hit next week, and the “Seth Rogen and James Franco Re-Create the Kim K Covers” images will come out shortly after that: if not, then we will know the Internet really is broken.

Update: Paper has released the full cover story, titled “No Filter: An Afternoon With Kim Kardashian,” along with the rest of the photos—all quite provocative—from the shoot.

Paper magazine’s winter issue, with the cover shot of Kim Kardashian by Jean-Paul Goude, set out to #BreakTheInternet. Well, we didn’t literally “break it”, but we definitely broke through, setting off a flood of coverage and commentary.

Of course, we expected some controversy from the very beginning. Having Kim Kardashian in any form in Paper, let alone posing nude, was likely to generate interest. Print, radio and TV jumped on the photos and reported the story with breathless excitement, feigning shock and awe. Tweets, likes, shares, comments, Instas and memes came surging forth, a torrent of butt-inspired commentary both delighted and outraged.

But did we expect it to go global, to become a major story for two weeks running? Or for it to lead a Saturday Night Live segment and become an ongoing discussion on late-night talkshows? Or that, taking up our challenge to #BreakTheInternet, versions of Kim’s behind would turn up on a piñata, a Thanksgiving turkey or Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s Christmas card? Never.

The thing about popular culture – or “virality” – is that it cannot be fully predicted or manufactured. It’s more art than science, and there is no recipe.

We began with the idea of creating a conceptual art project for our art issue. Thanks to the creative team, led by Drew Elliott and Mickey Boardman, Kardashian and Goude came on board, game to take on the hyperbolic mandate “#BreakTheInternet”.

Many magazines have shot Kardashian over the years. W did a major shoot; Vogue ran exclusive photos of Kim and Kanye’s wedding; British GQ ran them bare-assed on their cover – none went viral like this. Jean-Paul Goude, a pop culture legend in his own right, with work in the Louvre and several iconic images under his belt, was able to make you stare at one of the world’s most photographed women as if for the first time. But this alone would not have been enough.

Behind the scenes, we were mobilising the troops, adding servers to handle the anticipated online surge and lining our ducks in a row for the social media campaign. Paper has been spotting new talent in fashion, entertainment and the arts for decades. With the arrival of the internet, we’ve had a harder time being heard above the noise.

And so, a cover with Kardashian, already one of the world’s most famous women, was meant as the first salvo of an assault on the world wide web. The plan was to publish online in conjunction with the magazine’s appearance on newsstands. But seeing the photos made us change our game plan. They were too outrageous. Somewhere along the chain, from the printer to the truckers to the distributors, we were afraid someone would leak the photos; the next thing you know, they would have been on TMZ and we would have lost our own story. So, we switched gears – we released the covers first.

The response was immediate and overwhelming, reaching a fever pitch when Kanye tweeted “the butt cover” with the hashtag “#ALLDAY”. Within a couple of hours, he had been retweeted about 70,000 times. The inside photos – including the full nude – were released the following night at 8.30pm. Everyone in the office spent the night glued to real-time analytics, watching the traffic on the site skyrocket. The numbers were staggering: on 13 November, one day after the full story appeared, our traffic measured nearly 1% of the entire web browsing activity in the US.

Appearing on the cover of a small-circulation magazine proved to be a brave and brilliant move for Kardashian. Those familiar with Paper as an indie magazine were shocked by the choice of this mainstream star. Those new to Paper were beguiled, wondering what the queen of reality TV, gossip talkshows and social media was doing on the cover of a publication they had never heard of. It caught people off-balance, made them look twice and led many to speculate that either she was paid or we were paid. According to one outrageous – and false – theory, Kanye paid us to push Taylor Swift out of the news cycle.

From there, the conversation moved on to more weighty matters, such as the future of print in the face of the digital revolution. “That Kim Kardashian can ‘break the internet’ with a print magazine cover (as opposed to, say, an Instagram) is perhaps the biggest coup of all,” wrote Time. “A magazine is relevant again because the internet is talking about it – how ironic is that?” wrote Lauren Tuck, on Yahoo Style.

Blue Telusma, writing for the Grio, took a more nuanced view: “Those of you saying that Kim Kardashian needs to put on some clothes simply because she is a mother also need to sip a big champagne glass of ‘Girl, Bye!’ Because this antiquated idea that mothers are not allowed to celebrate their sexuality is ridiculous and naive.” But she went on to question the racial undertones in the photograph’s history and the iconography of Jean-Paul Goude. Some have long taken issue with Goude’s obsession with black women, as documented in his uncomfortably titled 1979 book, Jungle Fever.

Telusma wrote: “When I looked at the spread, all I saw was … imagery that is steeped in centuries of racism, oppression and misogyny … In a cultural landscape that continues to appropriate all things black, it looks like Mrs West has just Columbused several hundred years of black female exploitation and most likely has no friggin idea.”

Which brings us to the first rule of how to create a pop phenomenon: be polarising. Kim Kardashian is both loved and loathed. Detractors tend to play the talent card, as if America only rewards the talented actors and artists and musicians creating culture today. Perhaps what enrages people is that she doesn’t claim to be any of those things. She is a beautiful woman, with an amazing, unreal body and a knack for profiting off of those things. And she knows it. And that, for whatever reason, makes people incredibly angry. On Facebook, many of my “friends” hold Kardashian (and, by extension, Paper) complicit in the decline and fall of western civilisation.

If that’s what it takes to shake the world, so be it. Guilty as charged. We had an idea that worked for this specific issue. To claim that we can keep replicating this level of attention, or act as if there was real strategy or prophecy behind it wouldn’t be true. We’re enjoying our 15 minutes – but we’ve been here holding court for 30 years.

Baring It ALL: Kim Goes Full-Frontal For Paper Mag In New Pics, Editor Speaks Out On Photoshopping Rumors (NSFW PHOTOS)

Kim Kardashian‘s fully nude spread in PAPER Magazine has nearly done its job of breaking the internet.

The accompanying interview featuring the 34-year-old reality starlet has just been released, along with two brand new pictures from the shoot. And these photos are even more explicit than the now-famous booty shot, since one of them is totally full-frontal nude.

Being that the idea was to “break the internet,” Kim’s interview is ironic, considering she discusses whether she would be where she is today without social media:

“I don’t think so…” she says, slowly, then reconsiders. “I don’t think social media was that heavy when we started our show, but I think we really evolved with social media.”

“I love sharing my world with people,” Kardashian tells me, and I detect no hint of falseness. “That’s just who I am.” No more, no less.

Kim even goes on to call her family’s reality show, which is currently filming season 10, the “best family movie ever,” and states that “we’re kind of obsessed with each other.”

Reports claim Kimmy was not paid a dime for the photoshoot, and that it was her idea to go full-frontal nude in the first place.

TMZ reports:

Our sources at Paper Magazine say … Kim’s sole motivation was working with famed photog Jean-Paul Goude. The mag does not have the money to pay Kim her market value, so compensation was never really an option.

We now know the shoot went down during Paris Fashion Week in September. The plan was to shoot just one cover, but she and JPG hit it off so well they “got creative” and shot a lot more.

Since the release of her photos, Kim has received some backlash, including from Naya Rivera and Chelsea Handler, who mocked the photos with a butt shot of her own. In fact, many naysayers claim Kim’s famous booty was Photoshopped.

But the editorial director of the mag has spoken out, revealing that Kim’s cheeks were retouched, but not enhanced in any way.

Mickey “Mr. Mickey” Boardman told Us Weekly:

“Every cover of every magazine is airbrushed on some level,” Boardman tells Us. “But what I will say, is that is her butt. It is not padded. It is not augmented. That is all really her. But, yes, there was retouching to clean things up and make things look amazing,” he admitted. “That’s what retouching is. It’s not building an ass that isn’t there or taking 50 pounds off the waist.”

“We were really just planning on recreating the champagne shot…but she came in and was like, ‘Let’s, you know, let’s just go there!’ She and Jean-Paul just got into it with each other and got excited. She’s not shy about taking her clothes off, and the next thing , magic was happening.”

It’s a fact: Kim Kardashian is a bombshell with the confidence of a thousand women. Although she may not be everyone’s favourite celeb, Kim does have the press in the palm of her hands – especially when she decides to ‘break the internet’!

Splash News

Last week, she was on holiday with her sister Kourtney and the beach shots showing Kim Kardashian’s bum had the haters hating. So much so that Kim hit back.

Comments about her bikini body were gross, with one Daily Mail comment saying ‘she should have sat on the robbers,’ and calling her body ‘vile and disgusting’.

On Tuesday, Kim poked fun at the hype over her bikini body, which btw has its own emoji and caused a sensation on the front cover of Paper magazine in 2014. She tweeted: “Oh and as for me you ask? …I’m just sitting here on the beach with my flawless body.”

And she didn’t stop there, on Wednesday she shared a gorgeous picture of herself in a silver dress on her website kimkardashianwest.com shutting the haters down once and for all.

KimKardashianWest.com

The reality star has gained criticism in the past, and has previously said that it’s a woman’s right to love their body and not be shamed when they do.

Jean-Paul Goude for Paper

Her Paper magazine cover is what started this conversation in the first place. Her champagne shot, featuring full frontal and of course that oily bum, was headlined: “Break the internet, Kim Kardashian”, and yep, you’ve guessed it, she broke the internet. Well, not literally obviously.

She described the shoot as “empowering”, explaining that it helped build her confidence at a time when she didn’t feel happy about her body.

Kim Kardashian/Instagram

Not long after her cover, Kim shared a naked selfie on Instagram, rocking platinum blonde hair and her hourglass silhouette, and well… All hell broke lose! She was criticised for not being a good role model for young girls. However, some praised her for doing it, and claimed it was a feminist act. Regardless, she broke the internet. AGAIN.

Kim Kardashian-West Instagram

Chloë Moretz, and Pink weren’t fans of Kim’s photo, but Amber Rose, Miley Cyrus and Emily Ratajkowski all pitched in to share their positive thoughts on Kim’s post.

Soon after she was officially honoured with an award to celebrate her ‘bold and creative’ use of online platforms. As she collected the first ‘Break the Internet Award’, Kim proudly promised “naked selfies until I die”.

Webby organisers commented: ” in recognition of her unprecedented success online and the bold and creative ways she has used the Internet, social media, apps and video to connect with a truly global audience.”

On International Women’s Day, shortly after all the controversy, Kim decided to settle things once and for all, and published an open letter on her website Kim.

She wrote: “Hey, guys. I wanted to write a post elaborating on my tweets last night. In all seriousness, I never understand why people get so bothered by what other people choose to do with their lives.

I don’t do drugs, I hardly drink, I’ve never committed a crime-and yet I’m a bad role model for being proud of my body?

It always seems to come back around to my sex tape. Yes, a sex tape that was made 13 years ago. 13 YEARS AGO. Literally that lonnng ago. And people still want to talk about it?!?!

I lived through the embarrassment and fear, and decided to say who cares, do better, move on. I shouldn’t have to constantly be on the defence, listing off my accomplishments just to prove that I am more than something that happened 13 years ago.

Let’s move on, already. I have.

I am empowered by my body. I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world.

I am empowered by my husband, who is so accepting and supportive and who has given me a newfound confidence in myself. He allows me to be me and loves me unconditionally.

I feel so lucky to have grown up surrounded by strong, driven, independent women. The life lessons I’ve learned from my sisters, my mother and my grandmother, I will pass along to my daughter. I want her to be proud of who she is. I want her to be comfortable in her body. I don’t want her to grow up in a world where she is made to feel less-than for embracing everything it means to be a woman.

It’s 2016. The body-shaming and slut-shaming-it’s like, enough is enough. I will not live my life dictated by the issues you have with my sexuality. You be you and let me be me.

I am a mother. I am a wife, a sister, a daughter, an entrepreneur and I am allowed to be sexy.

#happyinternationalwomensday.”

You tell ’em, Kim!

Her love of naked celebrities has waned since October 2016 since she was held at gunpoint in Paris.

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. (TheStreet) — If power and influence can be measured in tweets and social capital, then Kim Kardashian was rewarded handsomely for her “Break The Internet” campaign, despite reportedly going unpaid.

The reality television personality who posed completely nude for the most recent issue of Paper magazine, earned herself 578,000 mentions on Twitter(TWTR) – Get Report in the two days following her full posterior and frontal reveals, according to data provided to TheStreet by social media platform Spredfast.

Kim also bumped her Twitter mentions per day average by a factor of 28, according to Spredfast, which measured Twitter data between 8 p.m. CST on Nov. 11 and 11:30 a.m. CST on Nov. 14. The hashtag “#BreakTheInternet” also netted more than 360,000 mentions on Twitter, and Kim’s Instagram butt shot accrued more than 833,000 likes.

With her social media coup, Kim not only brought new meaning to the idea that all exposure is good exposure, but also padded her resume of famous-for-being-famous achievements with the most notable yet: upping the ante on the social media stunt.

What’s more, the moment, which will no doubt be studied by anthropologists, is perhaps a watershed moment in pop culture. At the very least, Break the Internet, as a type of marketing campaign, has already become a social media benchmark by which all others will be measured against, Altimeter Group Principal Analyst Brian Solis told TheStreet.

“The true state of pop culture, media, and the Kim Kardashian stunt is actually reinforced by the ability to monetize this moment,” he said, adding that Paper will make money from additional magazine sales and ad impressions, while Kim will benefit from new business opportunities. “We are basically building a society that if we can’t capture attention the way BuzzFeed grabs attention, then we can’t necessarily monetize it. So what’s happening is this sensational form of exploiting monetization opportunities.”

The point of baring it all, at least according to the now famous catchphrase, was to break the Internet. To that end, the campaign was unsuccessful: the Internet as Kim knows it — Twitter, Facebook(FB) – Get Report , and Instagram — proved quite resilient, though that worked out quite well for her. The Internet carried her taunting dare to audiences far and wide.

You may hate her, but odds are you viewed the photos or shared one of the ensuing memes.

“At the end of the day, the are going to share and consume and become part of the media network that feeds her popularity and relevance,” Solis observed.

He’s right. Even large corporations and brands such as Southwest, TBS, and Nissan jumped on the KK awareness bandwagon to reap the benefits of residual mentions and retweets. Not even the Metropolitan Museum of Art could pass up the chance of riding, like the infamous champagne glass, on the back of the celebrity. By and large, these brands walked away winners.

Nissan, for instance, saw more than a 22,000% increase in retweets and 15,000% increase in favorites versus what it usually sees, Spredfast Director of Analytics and Research Chris Kerns told TheStreet. On average, for the 11 brands that repurposed the #BreakTheInternet hashtag, they saw a 5,200% bump in retweets and 3,800% bump in favorites, Kerns said.

“We’re fueling the machine,” Solis said, “which means we’re only going to continue down this path.”

Surely some anthropologist or data scientist will eventually attach a monetary sum to Kim’s latest cultural coup d’état that will make dollars and cents out of it all. But just extra exposure isn’t a bad thing for a woman who has businesses that depend on her exposure. Her hit mobile game, “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” developed by Glu Mobile(GLUU) – Get Report , has been downloaded nearly 23 million times since its June release. It raked in more than $43 million during the September quarter, according to the company’s earnings report.

“Kim reflects all the things we hate about society and reality television … but she is also widely successful at it,” Solis said.

And so, as that final full frontal photo suggests, Kim is laughing at the Internet — because we all care darn so much.

Can a Kim Kardashian Naked Selfie Still Break the Internet?

A fresh effort to break the internet has been launched by Kim Kardashian, who posted a number of nude selfies to promote her latest product launch.

Kardashian proved she is still the undisputed master of social media when the revealing image, posted on Instagram in the early hours of Tuesday morning, racked up over a million likes before breakfast.

She accompanied the post with a straightforward plug for her new product range, writing: “Ultralight Beams highlighters & glosses launching Dec 1st” and directing fans to her KKW Beauty website.

Kardashian famously attempted to first “Break the Internet” back in 2014, when she was the nude cover girl for Paper magazine’s winter 2014 issue.

Kim put her famous derriere on display for legendary French photographer Jean-Paul Goude, who recreated his iconic “Champagne Incident” photo, with Kardashian’s butt serving as a table for the glass.

The new image by an unaccredited photographer shows an implicitly nude Kardashian from the lower waist up covered in body glitter with one arm across her breast acting as a kind of organic modesty bar.

The new products will join Kim’s KKW Fragrances, which sold out on its launch less than two weeks ago.

Kardashian has previously defended her decisions to frequently pose naked, writing, after she was criticized for a 2016 post, “I never understand why people get so bothered by what other people choose to do with their lives. I don’t do drugs, I hardly drink, I’ve never committed a crime—and yet I’m a bad role model for being proud of my body?”

Kardashian has often identified her habit of posting nude selfies as an empowering way to take control of the narrative of her own body, as opposed to the “embarrassment and fear” she initially lived in after a sex tape of Kardashian and singer Ray J was leaked in 2007.

Kim Kardashian Covers Paper Mag Virtually Naked [PHOTOS]

Kim Kardashian is no stranger to garnering attention. Whether she’s making a public appearance at the latest fashion event, or simply taking her daughter for a casual stroll, she manages to crash the web by simply just being who she is — a very attractive woman!

So Paper Mag came up with this silly idea to place Kim on their Winter 2014 cover as part of their ‘Break the Internet’ campaign…oh, and she’s naked too! That’s right, Mrs. West is nude on the web again. You may recall her spread in Playboy Magazine in 2007, which came just months after her sex tape with Ray J hit the internet. But honestly, there probably isn’t one person in the country that would complain about seeing her in all her splendor, once again.

Legendary photographer Jean-Paul Goude wanted to re-create this famous “champagne incident” and Kim K. was the perfect candidate. The issue drops Thursday, November 13, but you can get your sneak peek below.

God is amazing, isn’t he? Kanye West is definitely standing in the mirror like…

What Does It Mean to ‘Break the Internet’?

Late Tuesday night, Kim Kardashian’s butt announced it would “break the Internet” when it appeared on the cover of Paper magazine. But what does “breaking the Internet” even mean? Is the Internet like a Gameboy that can break if someone sits on it by accident?

Obviously, Kim isn’t the first person to claim to “break the Internet.” In September Taylor Swift “broke the Internet” when she wore a T-shirt saying “no it’s Becky,” a super-meta reference to a Tumblr post where a user insisted that a picture of young Taylor was, in fact, someone named Becky. Beyoncé’s surprise album “broke the Internet” when she secretly released it last year. Alex from Target “broke the Internet” just by looking cute at work. Even Obama’s sensationally tan suit was almost able (but not quite) to “break the Internet,” according to Shape magazine.

Apparently, the Internet is about as durable as an 87-year-old hip.

And when it comes to Internet buzz, Kim Kardashian is Shiva the Destroyer — she has created a fame engine so big, she can dominate Twitter by flashing her nether cleavage (which, by the way, everyone has already seen.) But the most interesting circle on the Kim Kardashian cover isn’t her glistening derriere — it’s the tiny zero in $10, which is what that magazine costs. Paper magazine is just what it says it is: a magazine made of paper, and it costs money to buy it. That Kim Kardashian can “break the Internet” with a print magazine cover (as opposed to, say, an Instagram) is perhaps the biggest coup of all.

Paper Magazine is a small but prestigious art and fashion publication with an edgy bent. So while her Vogue cover with Kanye helped legitimize Kardashian with the fashion set, Paper is a better print venue for her to bare it all in a non-pornographic way. It’s prestigious in an artsy way, but not too prestigious to demure from the full-butt experience. Plus, print is always unexpected, and Kim loves the unexpected–remember her divorce from Kris Humphries?

It’s reminiscent of Benedict Cumberbatch’s recent old-fashioned newspaper engagement announcement, which immediately went viral. Most of the fascination was the news that Sherlock was off the market, but there was the added shock that the announcement wasn’t made on Twitter or Instagram, but instead appeared on a piece of pulpy grey newsprint in The Times of London. “It’s a kind of traditional thing to do,” Cumberbatch told People magazine. “I wanted to have some control over the message.”

Obviously, if the Internet does actually break, a paper magazine is probably not going to be what breaks it. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt said in October that surveillance programs like the NSA are “going to end up breaking the Internet,” because foreign governments won’t trust the United States not to snoop on their online activities. And according to The Guardian, sharks could “break the Internet” by nibbling at underwater cables.

Those events might change internet. But in the context of viral media content, “breaking the Internet” means engineering one story to dominate Facebook and Twitter at the expense of more newsworthy things. (Like, for example, the fact that humans have landed a probe on a comet for a first time in history.) So perhaps a more accurate term would be “hijacking the Internet,” since really these stories seem to be manipulating online fervor rather than shutting the whole thing down.

Sometimes people “break the Internet” by accident, which was the case for Alex from Target, the baby-faced Target checkout boy whose photo when viral after he was photographed by a teenage girl (and who is reportedly kind of freaked out by his internet fame.) Another example of accidental internet takeover is PR director Justine Sacco, whose offensive AIDS tweet went immediately viral and cost her her job.

But for celebrities, Internet destruction more often a calculated PR maneuver, designed to maximize social media hype and make themselves — or their projects — the center of attention. That’s what happened with Beyoncé last year — her self-titled album dropped the night of Dec. 12, 2013 with no fanfare or PR announcement, and by the next day she dominated Twitter, Facebook and iTunes. And this month, Taylor Swift’s entire rollout of her album 1989 has been calculated to maximize social media buzz, from dropping the first single (“Shake It Off”) through a Yahoo! livestream event to removing her entire catalogue from Spotify. Add her new Tumblr presence and her surprisingly thoughtful interaction with fans, and you’ve got an Internet tornado.

Kim Kardashian and the editors of Paper weren’t quite as strategic as Swift, but they do get points for irony. After all, the web helped eclipse print partially because of the popularity of bare butts online, so if this magazine cover were really able to break the internet, it’d be sweet revenge for paper and ink.

See Kim Kardashian’s Most Memorable Magazine Covers Kardashian was photographed by the controversial photographer Terry Richardson for her Rolling Stone cover. In the issue she talks about Caitlyn Jenner, her marriage to Kanye West and her love for the Backstreet Boys. Terry Richardson—Rolling Stone From the #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple to the #worldsmosttalkedaboutbutt. Kim Kardashian already got national attention for being naked when a sex tape went public in 2007, but as the new cover of Paper magazine suggests, it’s still her body — not her multi-million dollar iPhone game, not her TV show, not her marriage to Kanye West — that has the power to “break the Internet.” Jean-Paul Goude—Paper Kardashian called her first Vogue cover “a dream come true,” while critics accused to magazine of chasing what was trendy rather than defining it. “As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it,” Anna Wintour said in its defense. Annie Leibovitz—Vogue Before Kanye and Kim posed for Vogue, they posed on the cover of the French magazine L’Officiel Hommes in 2013. Is this just a strikingly suggestive pose or actual candid moment between now-spouses? Probably a little of both when it comes to this steamy photo shoot. Nick Knight—L’Officiel Hommes In 2012, Kardashian graced the cover of V magazine — shot by Nick Knight, who also shot her L’Officiel Hommes cover — and defended her reality show empire in the magazine’s pages by comparing it to rap music. “When rap music first came out, people were like, ‘We don’t understand this, what is this, it’s just a fad.’ But rap music is definitely here to stay, and I think reality shows have proven they are as well.” Nick Knight—V Magazine Channeling the typographic work of the iconic American artist Barbara Kruger, the cover of W magazine’s November 2010 issue found Kim Kardashian (almost) bearing it all. Inside its pages, the only layer she had on was a thin coat of silver body paint. Mark Seliger—W Magazine Kim Kardashian lands magazine covers because she’s a familiar face, but that didn’t matter to YRB. The magazine made her look near unrecognizable in a bob and dramatic makeup for a 2012 photo shoot that she later called “one of the most unique shoots ever done.” YRB Two of America’s biggest style icons met in 2009 when Kim Kardashian dressed up like Barbie, who “guest edited” an issue of Australia’s Kurv magazine. But it’s no surprise the star would say yes to a magazine that starts with the letter K. Kurv A 2009 shoot for Complex caused controversy when the magazine’s website accidentally published an unretouched photo of Kim Kardashian. While it reignited the ongoing debate about beauty standards, Kardashian herself wasn’t mad. “So what? I have a little cellulite,” Kardashian later wrote on her website. “What curvy girl doesn’t? How many people do you think are Photoshopped? It happens all the time!” Complex Kim Kardashian was the most-clothed person on the cover of Prestige magazine’s September 2010 issue when she posed with two naked men while looking like a sexed-up gladiator. “This might be one of my most risque covers to date!” she tweeted. Prestige In 2012, Kim Kardashian covered New York magazine’s fashion issue, which asked whether she had a place in the industry. Since then, she’s only shown that the answer to that question is a resounding yes as she attended Paris Fashion Week and the Met Ball and landed that Vogue cover — a magazine that in the past has been not-so-open-minded about women with curvy figures like hers. Buzz-wise, it’s been a coup. On November 8, just an average day, Kim Kardashian was tweeted about 12,000 times, according to social analytics firm Topsy. When news broke two days later that she had made $43 million on her app, she received 20,000 Twitter mentions. Then the booty dropped. Yesterday she was tweeted about more than 200,000 times.

An alternate cover photo featured Kardashian actually wearing the dress in an homage of photographer Jean-Paul Goude’s famous “Champagne Incident” portrait: a naked model, posing from the side, balances a glass on her butt and sends a stream of Champagne flying over her head and into the glass from the uncorked bottle in her hands.

The Winter issue of Paper magazine (just $10 an issue) is the New York City-based fashion and culture magazine’s annual art issue. Yesterday Digiday spoke with co-founder and editor Kim Hastreiter about how it came about — and what comes next for the 30-year-old publication. Excerpts:

How did this cover come together?
This cover was proposed by our visionary CCO Drew Elliott and longtime wonderful editor Mickey Boardman. They proposed an issue themed “Break the Internet.” The idea is that we would do an entire issue about trying to break the Internet.

Why?
This issue was actually our annual art issue and the fact that it would end up kind of a conceptual art piece slash commentary on virality, audience and the power of social media and the enormity of the superstars that own it really hit home for me. We would collaborate with Internet superstars on the most viral ideas we could think of so every single story would have massive reach and audience that could be pushed out by everyone all on one day. And for the cover, who better than Kim Kardashian to break the Internet?

She was totally on board?
Yes! Kim really adored the work of Jean-Paul Goude and was dying to work with him. Well that was a good start because Jean-Paul is a true hero of mine and has become a friend collaborating with us on shoots for Paper over the years. So we made the match and once we did, Kim needed no cajoling. It was like a dream shoot. In fact she arrived at the shoot totally excited and game to collaborate and do whatever it took to make the most amazing break the Internet images possible. And they went there!

You joked your phone was melting. What’s the response been?
I laughed myself to sleep last night when I heard that there were 5.5 million Google searches of us between 8 p.m. and midnight. I have not laughed so hard in so long. This is so much fun. Andy Warhol would have loved this. In fact I got an email today from my hero and old friend the 80-something-year-old ad genius George Lois who actually discovered Jean-Paul Goude in the ’60s at Esquire. He sent me an image of himself and Jean-Paul at the four seasons that was taken in the sixties by Andy Warhol.

How do you capitalize on this momentum?
The response has been gargantuan. I’m fielding emails from Israel and Denmark and the Daily Mail just ran a page of memes that are hilarious. We have figured that by a week we will have reached a billion eyeballs. I think we have to reach two and a half billion to break the Internet but maybe that will happen tonight when we release the rest of our cover story images.

A meme among many

DoubleClick went down the morning after your cover hit the Web. Maybe you guys really did break the Internet.
Remember this is just the tip of the iceberg of what we are unleashing in the next week. More to come tonight, this weekend and next week. we wanted to keep it building. People will die when they see what we push out tonight.

You mention the memes — notably people having a little fun with Photoshop — your reaction?
I adore the memes. Someone did a meme of my face on Kim’s body for my birthday which is today.

And the allegations this was Photoshopped?
Of course it was Photoshopped. Do you really think that you can open a bottle of champagne and get it to spray in a thin line over someone’s head and land perfectly in a glass sitting on that same person’s bottom?

How have advertisers responded?
The smart ones bought pages in the issue. The others were shortsighted and will probably wish they’d been on the wild ride with us.

Kim Kardashian ‘Breaks the Internet’ with Her Paper Magazine Cover

If you follow Kim Kardashian on Instagram (guilty!) then you were in for quite a surprise as you mindlessly scrolled through your feed last night. A cross between something you might see in the wax museum and a Barbie doll on steroids, it was pretty hard to look away from Kim’s glossy butt, which she captioned “#BreakTheInternet.” And that’s exactly what Paper magazine intended when they chose to feature the famous derrière on their cover.

“For our winter issue, we gave ourselves one assignment: Break The Internet. There is no other person that we can think of who is up to the task than one Kim Kardashian West. A pop culture fascination able to generate headlines just by leaving her house, Kim is what makes the web tick,” Paper writes.

The second cover Kim Kardashian posted last night was a recreation of Jean-Paul Goude’s iconic “Champagne Incident” photo, which she shares was shot in Paris, naturally.

Whatever you think about the photos, you’ve gotta give the girl credit for owning her curves and sharing her body confidence with the world. Let’s face it, the woman knows what people want.

In case that somehow wasn’t enough Kim Kardashain for you, the inside images will be released Thursday, and they’re teased to be even more jaw dropping.
