RELATED: Lady Gaga Has Opened Up About Her Struggle With This Debilitating Condition

The Lady Gaga workout & diet was inspired by the 5-Factor Fitness health trend. To get in Monster’s Ball shape Lady Gaga tapped celebrity trainer, Harry Pasternack. Pasternack is famous for giving workout and diet advice to many stars, including Lady Gaga. He also helps Katy Perry, Halle Berry, Megan Fox, Eva Mendez, and Rihanna. His workouts for Lady Gaga are short and sweet, but they deliver results fast. The Lady Gaga workout has helped make her the post-modern, pop diva that she is today.

“Gaga doesn’t love to work out, but she likes how efficient this method is. Your heart rate stays up, so you burn more calories in less time.”

Pasternack accomplishes this by keeping Lady Gaga moving throughout the workout. Also, he constantly shifts the targeted body area between cardio, lower body, upper body, and core. Pasternack is co-host of the new TV show, The Revolution. He claims to create workout routines for almost 80 percent of the stars in Hollywood. When he has a lot of time to push Lady Gaga during her workout routine, the Lady Gaga workout lasts for over an hour. They make the workouts last longer by adding in more cardio. When she is touring, he has given her a daily routine she can do in 30 minutes. Lady Gaga says:

“My workout is made up of five phases. A cardio warm-up, a circuit of lower body strength, upper body strength, abdominal strength, and a cardio cool-down.”

The Lady Gaga workout succeeds in its simplicity. You only have to do a few minutes of cardio, followed by targeted body exercises. These exercises vary by body part. The key is that you work all sides of your muscles. You can do crunches all day, but you won’t see results if you don’t work the sides as well. Quickly varying what body part you work, minimizing rest between sets, and doing cardio (before and after) are the keys. These keys help to make the Lady Gaga workout short, but successful.

Lady Gaga Diet

The Lady Gaga diet is about eating 5 small meals (breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner). Lady Gaga admits that she even packs 5-factor food on the plane with her. She loves the cookies and shakes that adhere to the 5-factor diet. Opt for “palm sized” servings of protein and a “clenched fist” of carbs. Go with quality carbs (low Glycemic Index) and protein that is low in fat. The great thing is that you get 1 cheat day, per week. When eating healthy, Lady Gaga’s diet opts for meals that have:

  • low-fat, sources of protein
  • healthy, (low GI) carbohydrates
  • high fiber (less refined the better)
  • healthy fats (olive oil, etc.)
  • sugar free beverages (her trainer, Pasternack, is a spokesman for Coke Fuze)

Lady Gaga’s Workout and Diet

Here are two of Lady Gaga’s favorite recipes from Harley Pasternak’s cookbook, The 5-Factor World Diet. The Swedish pancakes are the perfect power brunch, and the tabouli is packed with protein and vitamins — just right for lunch or dinner.

Swedish Pancakes with Raspberries

Makes: 2 servings

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 9 minutes

1 large egg yolk

2 tablespoons Splenda or other sugar substitute

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch salt

1 cup nonfat milk

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

3 tablespoons white flour

3 egg whites

Nonstick cooking spray

1 cup fresh raspberries

1. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolk, Splenda, vanilla and salt. Alternately whisk in the milk and flour, stirring well after each addition to make a thin, smooth batter.

2. In another bowl, whisk the egg whites until they hold stiff peaks. Gently and quickly fold them into the pancake batter.

3. Lightly coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray; place over medium-high heat. Drop about 2 tablespoons batter into the skillet for each pancake. Cook as many pancakes at once as will fit comfortably in skillet, turning when browned, about 3 minutes per pancake. Serve with raspberries.

“I would rather die than have my fans not see me in a pair of high heels,” Lady Gaga recently told a British television show. So just why would a pair of ballet flats send the pop phenom to an early grave?

In the interview, Gaga discusses the current state of our celebrity culture and says that keeping a glitzy image is almost as important to her career as her singing voice. “You see legendary people taking out their trash, I think it’s destroying show business,” she said. “I’d never give up my wigs and hats for anything.”

While keeping up an appearance like Gaga’s is undoubtedly serious work–she has an entire team devoted to nothing but her wardrobe and confessed to Oprah that she spends an inordinate amount of time conceiving her next looks–I have to agree with her that the tabloid weekly shots of big-time movie stars wearing terrycloth sweatsuits has taken some of the gloss off of the culture of fame. Yes, yes, celebs are people too, and they’re just as entitled to a lazy day in jeans and sneakers as the rest of us, but if you’ve devoted yourself to being a name, a persona, a star, a fame monster, then you better be prepared to always look your best when there are cameras around. So much of Hollywood is an illusion, a clever bit of trickery for the sake of our entertainment, and when regular folks like us have a chance to peek behind the curtain, it kind of dilutes the whole concept.

I can’t help but think of Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner here–two completely stunning women who have each had their fair share of wow moments on the red carpet, but who also have rarely been photographed in anything other than jeans and T-shirts off the red carpet. Every time I see one of them all glammed up and dressed to kill, all I can think is, “Her stylist did a good job. And I bet she can’t wait to get out of that getup.” I’m not saying that these two lovely ladies should be decked out in ball gowns and perfect updos at all times, just that the invasiveness of the celebrity media has made it harder for me to believe they’re the glamourpusses we’re meant to believe they are at big events. And if you’re someone whose career is built on the foundation of being a glamourpuss, like Gaga, it seems the only solution is to look perfectly camera-ready at all times. Even if it means wearing high heels at 7am after a transcontinental flight.

Sure, the fact that she’d “rather die” is a little dramatic, but I’m totally picking up what Gaga is putting down. How about you, ladies? Do you think so many photos of celebrities in Uggs and fleeces is ruining the Hollywood illusion? Or do you kind of like those voyeuristic glimpses of starlets looking real and down-to-earth? 5 Days in Shoes: Lady Gaga Steps Out in Wild T-Strap Sandals

The week’s biggest surprise? Dita von Teese ditched her standard stilettos for a pair of flats. Shocking, we know.

Lady Gaga has seriously mixed up her style quotient, taming the wild platinum and performance makeup with brown roots and a (somewhat) refined makeunder. Along with the changes, she’s been embracing a wide variety of single-sole (i.e. non-platform) footwear looks for everyday wear, from Jerome C. Rousseau’s thorn-heeled pumps to the Sophia Webster single-sole “Mollie” stilettos she was snapped in this week heading into her New York apartment. The four-inch leopard pony with silver speckle, black patent ankle strap and mirror pin heel from Webster definitely signals a more artisan approach. “I thoroughly enjoy the artistic process involved in the design of each shoe,” the London-based designer tells Pret-a-Reporter. “So it is very exciting to see an innovative woman such as Lady Gaga wearing Sophia Webster.”

Hello, gams! Minnie Driver showed off her strong, lean legs in a body-con, laser-cut, black-and-orange Mara Hoffman mini at the Television Academy’s 66th Emmy Awards Performers Peer Group Celebration event at the Montage on Monday, styling it with a pair of bright royal blue suede, three-and-a-half-inch-high DKNY “Lidia” stilettos. This playful sartorial footwear choice was spot-on, and Driver looked very much the A-lister that she is, while showing that true style doesn’t have to be expensive. Making waves recently for her Emmy-worthy, heart-wrenching performance in Lifetime’s Return to Zero and her role in NBC’s About a Boy, we’re glad to see Driver thriving and rocking out — on both the career and fashion front.

Dita von Teese showed off a fresh interpretation of her signature pinup style at her annual garden party in Malibu on Sunday. Wearing a Catherine Malandrino maxi in soft green, she paired the relaxed silhouette with a structured red bra from her Von Follies lingerie collection for a brightly colored beachy moment. Tossing her usual stilettos aside for the occasion, she donned a pair of Christian Louboutin “Athena” flat sandals in black, python and silver metallic T-straps. Von Teese, known for being one of Louboutin’s muses, has worked with the footwear genius on designing all of her shoes for her shows throughout the last decade — from custom-made pointe shoes to Swarovski-encrusted stilettos — that has created a new red-soled standard for burlesque dancers across the globe. “I almost always wear Christian Louboutin shoes, as Christian is a longtime friend and collaborator,” says the famous pinup girl.

Alicia Quarles has been upping both her career and fashion status with some bold moves. The New York-based correspondent for E! News weeknights, makes the rounds on the red carpet and seems to nail it every time with a mix of classic and dramatic looks that garner her attention from The New York Times and Vogue. Attending the Jazz at Lincoln Center Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live! event Tuesday, Quarles dressed to make an impression on Gaga herself — and that she did. Pairing a bright orange Millin dress with bright metallic pink and green spectator cap-toe stilettos from Ursula Mascaro, Quarles cited both the high-impact design as well as the comfort factor. She explains: “Most people would not pair a bright orange dress with such bright shoes, but the point of fashion is to take risks, have fun and in my case make sure my feet are not dying by the end of the night. Ursula’s shoes have extra padding so you could literally run in them (trust me, I’ve done it), and feel no pain.” Quarles is a big fan of the brand for the old-world, high-quality Spanish craftsmanship and notes, “You can skimp on everything else, but never, ever the quality of your shoes.”

Kelly Osbourne (Photo credit: Brian Dowling/Invision/AP)

Kelly Osbourne, co-host of E!’s Fashion Police, hosted the Young Hollywood Awards Sunday with her usual panache and witty banter. For her arrival ensemble, she paired a black-and-white geometric minidress from Israeli designer Dodo Bar Or with a simple pair of black suede Barneys pumps. These made-in-Italy, three-and-a-quarter-inch stilettos were the perfect choice with the fierce and funky minidress, grounding the ensemble in a classic silhouette. As Osbourne puts it: “I just thought these shoes would f—king rock with the amazing dress. And they were comfortable!” Who says you can’t have a little comfort with your rock ‘n’ roll style?

Lady Gaga’s ‘endless navel-gazing’

Lady Gaga’s grandma seems to be the only person who actually stands up to her. That is one of the inadvertent revelations in Gaga: Five Foot Two, a supposedly bare-all, fly-on-the-wall documentary.

The film is meant to shape the next phase of her career, recasting her as a serious artist

There is a deliberate theme, too. Gaga talks to the camera about everything from her personal relationships to her role as a witch in American Horror Story. As she does, she keeps circling back to the idea that society considers strong women threatening, and that women have to push back and take charge of their own lives. Wandering around her house without make-up, feeding her dogs, she announces that her tolerance for taking rubbish from men is down to zero.

– Can Angelina Jolie make a great film?

– The daring comedians pushing boundaries

– The surprising origins of Wonder Woman

The film’s message is empowering but its subtext is more fascinating, as Gaga puts her take-charge philosophy to use. Grandma aside, Five Foot Two offers a glimpse of Gaga shaping the next phase of her image, recasting herself as a serious artist and equal-rights role model rather than a pop-star spectacle in a dress made of meat. This film is part of the reconstruction project.

Her brash irreverence makes the documentary fast and entertaining on the surface. The film was shot while she was creating her album Joanne, released last year. She is seen in the studio with her friend and producer Mark Ronson, recording a new song, now familiar as the hit Million Reasons.

There is surprisingly little music in the film, though. Instead, the cameras follow her to a family christening, to photo shoots, even into a doctor’s examination room, capturing scenes that are both raw and calculated.

Is there no reason to doubt how genuine her emotions are here?

She often talks about her physical pain, the lingering aftermath of a broken hip. She lies on a couch crying as pain travels from her head to her toes. And we hear audio of a phone call to a friend in which she talks about her loneliness. “I go from everyone touching me all day and talking to me all day, to total silence” at night, she says.

The fame monster

The film provides a visceral sense of how exhausting her level of stardom might be. She is constantly having her make-up and hair done. Someone is always hovering and fussing about her, pushing and pulling. She complains to friends that her career has cost her several romantic relationships. Although this is an edited version of her life, there’s no reason to doubt how genuine her emotions are.

But really: who lets cameras record a doctor’s visit except someone obsessed with her own image? Her conversation with the doctor about pain management – a stylist does her eye make-up as she sits on the examination table – is not candid. It’s imagery. The scene telegraphs: here’s Gaga being transparent, in pain yet getting ready to face the cameras, doing it for her fans.

The film says only and exactly what Gaga wants it to say

As those millions of fans know, the album Joanne was named for her father’s sister, who died of lupus at 19, in the 1970s. Gaga says that her aunt’s death cast a shadow over her childhood, and that writing and recording the album was intensely personal.

We realise how personal when Gaga and her father visit his mother, Joanne’s mother. Sitting at a table in the modest apartment, Gaga plays the newly-recorded song Joanne on her phone. Gaga and her father are both weepy. Her grandmother is dry-eyed, and for good reason. She obviously adores her granddaughter and tells her how special she is, but says with some concern, “Don’t become maudlin over all this.” No one else in the film offers such a sensible warning. The film breezes by the line, but it jumps out as a moment of clarity cutting through Gaga’s endless navel-gazing.

The director, Chris Moukarbel, also made Me at the Zoo, the story of a YouTube celebrity, and Banksy Does New York. His style of building a film from densely-edited fragments suits the life-as-it-happens façade of Gaga: Five Foot Two. And like a magician’s assistant creating a distraction, Moukarbel’s busy style helps obscure how much the film says only and exactly what Gaga wants it to say.

All of her media manipulation doesn’t negate her message about personal acceptance for women and men. But let’s not be naïve. Gaga: Five Foot Two is a carefully designed delivery system for Gaga: Now I’m Serious.

  • Lady Gaga looked amazing at the Emmys, and one look at her dedication to fitness and it’s easy to see why. While Gaga isn’t without controversy (she’s admitted to occasional drug and alcohol use), she remains extremely focused when it comes to her diet and fitness regimen.

    • She keeps a consistent workout schedule: Gaga maintains the fitness regimen created for her by longtime trainer Harley Pasternak. Even while touring, she works out five times a week for at least 25 minutes each day. The secret to Lady Gaga’s killer abs? Lots of crunches. Harley starts her on a basic crunch and modifies that into reverse crunches, ending with a double crunch. If you want to get abs like Gaga, check out Lady Gaga’s favorite ab exercises. When you’ve finished the ab routine, watch this video of Harley as he takes you through Gaga’s butt workout.
    • She keeps a healthy diet: Besides following Harley’s fitness routine, Gaga has also subscribed to his 5 Factor Diet, which says to eat five times a day (two meals and three snacks) of foods falling into these five categories: lean protein, low-glycemic carbs, healthy fats, fiber, and a sugar-free beverage. The diet also allows for one cheat day a week. Some of Gaga’s favorite foods to munch on are salsa with grain chips, tofu, turkey slices, hummus, and coconut water. Tonight, make yourself a Gaga-approved meal: check out Harley’s recipe for five-spice halibut.
    • She believes in the healing power of yoga: A longtime yogini, Gaga even makes a habit to practice at local studios wherever her travels take her (Bikram and hot power yoga are her styles of choice). She has said, “Yoga makes me feel like I can do anything,” and has called her longtime NYC-based teacher Tricia Donegan an inspiration, saying ” . . . yoga heals me and so do you.”

    — — Harley Pasternak is a trainer to the stars, working with everyone from Lady Gaga to Katy Perry, Rihanna, Megan Fox, Halle Berry, Gwen Stefani, Jessica Simpson and Ariana Grande.

“Good Morning America” paired Pasternak with Nicolette Mason, co-founder of fashion line Premme, to see if the same wellness principles he teaches celebrities could be effective for Mason.

Here is Mason’s experience, in her own words.

I met with Harley for the first time several weeks ago and felt immediately at ease with him.

As a plus-size girl, I’ve dealt with a lot of projection when it comes to fitness. I’m an avid boutique fitness participant, and love my spin classes and barre classes, but I’ve seldom taken a class where I didn’t get unsolicited feedback from strangers or a weird congratulations for “keeping up.” Hello, just ’cause I’m a little bigger than your average cycler doesn’t mean I’m not interested in doing something that genuinely makes me feel good!

I loved that Harley recognized and affirmed me where I’m at: As someone who wants to use wellness tools to manage and improve my health, stress, and anxiety, not to whittle away at my frame. I know that might be foreign to some people … but it has taken me a long time to love myself and my body, and I’m not trying to make drastic changes to the way I look. My goal, instead, is to just feel my best, especially in terms of managing my pain symptoms and stress.

Let’s talk diet, first. I have Celiac disease and fibromyalgia. To my delight, Harley’s plan was so similar to how I already eat that it felt really seamless, approachable and realistic for me to make the modifications to successfully stay on plan. Like me — Harley doesn’t believe in fad diets; instead, the emphasis is on fresh, whole foods and balanced meals, and if anything, the new plan meant I was eating more and on a more consistent schedule than I was previously doing.

I started every day with a smoothie and filled the rest of my meals each day with delicious salads, fresh vegetables, grilled fish and seafood, quinoa and fruit. It was all so satisfying, and because I was very intentional about balancing my meals with protein, fat and fiber, I immediately noticed how infrequently I felt hungry.

Next, was the fitness component. We both knew I wasn’t going to become a marathoner overnight, but it was important for me to re-frame my approach to workouts. I’ve been so married to my group fitness classes for so long that on days where I was too busy to schedule in an hour-long class or get to a studio, I was foregoing dedicated workouts entirely. Harley introduced me to seven simple, low impact, non-contact exercises that I could literally do anywhere.

Besides the simple seven, we also set a goal of 12,000 steps a day, which were tracked on my FitBit.

I got kind of competitive with myself and the step number, and felt lucky to already love walking everywhere. Plus, the movement reminders became little benchmarks for me to take breaks from my work, which actually made me feel way more productive, too.

With minimal intervention, the FitBit gave me something that I’ve long desired with my anxiety: Control. It literally gave me a tool, sitting right on my wrist, that handed me the steering wheel to pivot away from my otherwise totally debilitating anxiety. Anxiety attacks have absolutely been one of the triggers to my fibromyalgia flare-ups, and though it’s only been a few weeks, my chronic pain has definitely dissipated a lot.

The verdict: Safe to say, I’m definitely sticking with this approach. It’s so intuitive, honors my approach to wellness and nothing about it is punitive. Living your best life shouldn’t ever feel like a punishment or a chore.

*Note: The diet listed below is a weight-loss diet, totaling 1,650 to 1,800 calories a day. A maintenance diet is, for the average woman, 2,000 calories a day.

    1. Eat three meals and two snacks every day.

    2. Each meal should be approximately 400 calories total and include servings of protein (at least the mass of your hand), high-fiber whole grains or high-fiber fruits (a handful size), unlimited non-starchy vegetables and two thumb-size portions of healthy fats like nuts, seeds, olives and avocado.

    3. Snacks should be between 150 to 200 calories each and include protein and fiber.

    ‘Simple seven’ exercises

Do one exercise each day, for about five minutes, following a brief warm-up. Over seven days, you’ll work every major muscle group. On day eight, repeat this sequence of exercises.

    1. Reverse lunge.

    2. Superman.

    3. Lying dumbbell triceps extension.

    4. Stiff-leg dumbbell deadlift.

    5. Standing dumbbell curl press.

    6. Single-arm dumbbell row.

    7. Standing dumbbell side bend.
