Fashion Leggings That Aren’t Just For Working Out
Leggings are popular workout attire, but there are some types of leggings that can (and should) be worn outside the gym. These fashion leggings are perfect for dressing up for nights out or worn as stylish everyday wear. From faux leather to mesh details, here are seven fashion leggings that take your favorite athletic piece from the treadmill to the office or grocery store.
High Waisted Leggings
High waisted leggings sit high on the abdomen like your favorite pair of high waisted jeans. This style is available in thin spandex material like your workout wear, but high waisted leggings also come in thicker materials that are more suited for everyday wear. Choose a pair that has a thicker material and pocket details for an outfit that can go from your afternoon meeting to your dinner reservations.
With their thicker material, corduroy leggings don’t even resemble their workout cousin in the slightest. These leggins fit slim to the leg but can be dressed up with a button up shirt and a pair of pumps for a more professional outing. These leggings can also be dressed down with your favorite t-shirt and sneakers as well, just like you would style your regular corduroy pants. This material looks great in different colors, like soft or dark greens, reds, beiges, and more.
Faux Leather Leggings
Sleek and slinky, faux leather leggings give the shine of leather pants with a bit more stretch than the real thing. These leggings can be paired with heels and a chic top for a night out, or a graphic t-shirt and fashion sneakers for a trendy streetwear look. If you love faux materials, be sure to check out faux suede leggings while you’re at it.
Keep in mind that you should never dry faux leather in the dryer after washing as the heat can shrink and ruin the material.
Jeggings combine the softness of leggings with the casual yet polished look of denim. These pants often feature fake pockets for detailing and can be almost indistinguishable from the real thing. The major difference you’ll feel, however, is the comfortable stretch and softness the material has compared to a pair of real jeans. Style jeggings like you would your go-to pair of skinny jeans. Wear them with an oversized sweater, a comfy t-shirt, a casual button down with the sleeves rolled up, or a professional blouse. Keep in mind these leggings are generally best for days when you’re not leading meetings or eating at a michelin star restaurant. These are comfy and casual, and do best in those situations as well.
Leggings featuring a print like plaid, checkered, or vertical stripes are great options for dressing up for a professional or dressy situation. A thicker and softer material like cotton works best when wearing printed leggings outside of the gym, however, printed spandex leggings should not be ignored for comfy days off. Fun holiday prints featuring christmas lights, reindeer, or snowmen are also fun printed options for holiday parties and cozy nights in with the family.
Athleisure isn’t clothing you’d wear to the office, however, it is perfect for comfortable everyday wear. Wearing clothing that was intended for working out in is wonderful because it is meant to move with us without restrictions. Athleisure leggings can feature fun details like mesh cutouts or come a bit looser in the form of joggers, which is almost like a glorious mix between leggings and sweatpants.
Business Casual Leggings
Athletic leggings are a big no-no in most workplaces, however, some business casual leggings are more professional than you may think. With the look of a fitted pair of dress pants, these leggings are often black or gray and can be paired with heels or flats and your go-to button down or blouse. These pants also often have added details like a detailed seam or a cropped fit at the ankles for added work-ready features. Ponte pants and twill leggings are both examples of great business casual options.
