Simpler Wines

April 29, 2017 in Category: What’s New

Although canned wine is the new kid on the block when compared to centuries-old wine packaging of glass bottles and corks, its benefits are propelling it to industry stardom. Aluminum cans are lightweight, portable and cost less to ship, and they’re easier to recycle than glass.

The downside? The product inside the can doesn’t always stand up to its bottled counterpart. Tickled to tackle the task of finding a wine that meets our strict standards to fill the can-do can, our wine team rolled up their sleeves and worked with an Italian supplier to develop Simpler Wines Italian Sparkling Wine in 4-pack cans.

Simpler Wines combine the convenience of a can with a delightfully quaffable, Italian vino frizzante (sparkling wine). In Simpler Wines White, notes of juicy honeydew and fresh cut herbs provide sweet sippability, complementing such savory pairings as fresh bread & olives or Parmigiano Reggiano. The elegant, mineral notes and red fruit flavors of Simpler Wines Rosé are a natural fit for fresh pasta, seafood or sweets.

Whichever you choose, the floral bouquet and effervescence of these Wines will provide an instant party-like atmosphere upon first sip, whether you’re at an actual party, or just celebrating a Wednesday night dinner. And the perfectly-portioned cans (187mL each, or about 6 fluid ounces) are incredibly handy when you’re mixing up a cocktail and only need a splash (or two) to top up your glass.

With no fancy opener or glassware needed, Simpler Wines dare to venture where their bottled brethren can only dream. Picnic at the beach or concert in the park? No problem. Backyard BBQ or pool party? Simpler Wines for the win.

We’re offering four – 187mL cans (748mL total) of Simpler Wines White or Simpler Wines Rosé for the WOW price of $3.99, a fraction of the price we’ve seen elsewhere. We’ll drink to that!

Earlier this year, we launched two canned wines that became an instant hit with customers and crew. These Simpler Wines combine the convenience of a can with a delightfully quaffable, Italian vino frizzante (sparkling wine). And because the cans are made of aluminum, they’re lightweight, portable and cost less to ship—and they’re easier to recycle than glass. In summary, a win on all fronts! Eager to further develop our can-do line of popular canned wine, our wine team rolled up their sleeves, got to work and tasted tirelessly to create the newest addition to the deck, Simpler Wines Peach.

The fragrant honeysuckle and juicy peach notes of Simpler Wines Peach shine brightest when chilled. It’s delightful sippability makes it a natural pairing with brunch, grilled seafood, and desserts. Perfect on its own with a little mint for garnish, or as a not-too-sweet base for a lip-smacking sangria, Trader Joe’s latest sparkling wine in a 6 oz. can takes the guesswork out of cocktail hour. Trader Joe’s

In May, we pitted Trader Joes’ new canned wine against their “Two Buck Chuck,”—and, in an unanimous vote, the cans came out on top. So you can imagine our excitement when we learned that the grocery store added a new flavor to their Simpler Wines lineup, called Simpler Wines Peach.

We already loved the cans for their small size, recyclable packaging, and easy-to-pop tops. We’re even more thrilled now that the fizzy sparkling wine inside has notes of honeysuckle and juicy peaches, but still manages to not be cloyingly sweet. It would be perfect served with brunch, nestled into an ice bucket at a holiday party, or even offered with dessert. Of course, it will also be perfect come summer, when it will pair delightfully with grilled seafood. Plus, the cute, colorful cans get icy cold quickly, so you’ll be ready for any last-minute guests.

The 6-ounce. (187-ML) cans are sold in packs of four (the equivalent to a 750mL bottle of wine) for just $4. But if you’d prefer a bottled beverage, Trader Joe’s just released their five favorite picks for holiday gatherings (complete with cheese pairings!)—all under $8. They include a Cherry Blossom Pinot Noir, a Moon X Dark Red Blend, a Spiral Napa Chardonnay, a Secco Peach Bellini, and a Givon Kosher Cabernet Sauvignon (ideal as a Hannukah party-starter).

Trader Joe’s Has Bottled Bellinis That Are Perfect For Summer Parties

The products and services mentioned below were selected independent of sales and advertising. However, Simplemost may receive a small commission from the purchase of any products or services through an affiliate link to the retailer’s website.

Bellinis are such a classic summer drink. Made with sparkling wine and peach puree, the cocktail was first invented in 1948 in Venice, Italy, at the famous Harry’s Bar.

In the years following, Bellinis have become a beloved way to toast the sweetness of summer. But, if you don’t have time to wash, peel and puree peaches for this recipe, no worries: Trader Joe’s is now selling pre-made Bellinis that will take all the effort out of this classic recipe.

Trader Joe’s Secco Bellinis are made with Prosecco and come in flavors like the classic peach, as well as variations such as mango, strawberry-raspberry and grapefruit. Best of all, these bottles of bubbly are only $5.99, so you can grab a few for your summer parties without breaking the bank.

With a low alcohol content (8% ABV), this would be the perfect drink for toasting the sunrise on a lazy summer morning. Trader Joe’s suggests serving these Secco Bellinis, which are made by a family-owned Germany winery, with their Grand Blue bleu cheese. You could try the combo with their new fig and olive crisps, made with California Black Mission figs and Kalamata olives. These Mediterranean-inspired crisps would pair perfectly with the Venetian roots of the Bellini.

Trader Joe’s Secco Bellinis would also pair wonderfully with a light pasta salad (made with their new Green Goddess Pasta Salad, of course) for a summertime lunch by the pool.

Don’t have a Trader Joe’s nearby? There are plenty of shortcut recipes for making Bellinis at home. You can substitute canned peaches for fresh in a pinch, such as with this recipe from Aldi’s. Just make sure you blast the peaches in your blender or food processor until the fruit is very smooth.

Aldi’s

This isn’t the only Bellini in a bottle. You can order a Bellini mix on Amazon as well. Just add Prosecco!

Keep your eyes peeled for Trader Joe’s Peach Bellini jam. Made with sweet, ripe peaches, lemon juice and cane sugar, this sweet jam would be perfect to spread on an English muffin for breakfast or to serve on a charcuterie platter at your next backyard barbecue.
