18 plus-size women of color to follow on Instagram who will inspire your style game
Image zoom Cassidy Sparrow/WireImage
Let’s be real—plus-size fashion doesn’t get the spotlight it deserves, even though 68% of women in the United States wear a size 14 and above. Usually, the plus-size section of a brick-and-mortar retail store is just a limp add-on: two to three sad racks of super plain, matronly versions of the “straight-size” options. Even inclusivity champion Rihanna skimped on providing her plus-size customers equally dope lingerie through Savage x Fenty.
Online, the plus-size fashion game lives mostly through Instagram. Fashion gurus from all over the world are putting together high-caliber looks, mixing pricier options from Maria Rinaldi or Universal Standard with budget-friendly staples from Forever 21 Plus or Fashion Nova Curve. Some, like blogger Gabi Gregg and cultural commentator Ashleigh Tribble of AshleighChubbyBunny, made the jump to designing clothes themselves, or altering existing pieces to accentuate their curves. On plus-size fashion Instagram, we even get upper echelon, next-level makeup looks that compete with the dopeness of each outfit.
The prospects might look bleak industry-wide, but luckily our Instagram feed is poppin’ and we’re here to guide you down the yellow brick road of Fat Femme Oz. We’ve rounded up 18 influencers who have been flooding our timelines with one fuego look after the other. We intentionally chose to focus on women of color, who typically don’t get the same amount of clout or paid fashion collaborations as their white counterparts. The women on this list are so gorgeous, powerful, and fly that you’ll never question a thicc girl’s ability to slay ever again. Scroll through the list below and smash that follow button for continuous style inspo.
Tbh, it was hard to pick just one of her iconic looks to feature since Naomie is constantly slaying. Her feed is the perfect inspiration for casual looks dressed up with a good smize.
This blue-haired Malaysian beauty constantly dazzles with effortless beauty looks and eclectic fashion pairings.
Each of Enam’s images features unexpected pairings like silver sequined dresses at the beach and rhinestone-studded eyelids paired with cheetah print.
Alex’s page gives us a wide range of outfit ideas for the office, date night, the gym, and more.
If you’re looking for proof that funky blue geographic eyeliner, a cowboy hat paired with angel wings, or crop tops with unexpected underboob could all look stunning, look no further. Kaguya’s page serves alllla that, plus a side of sizzling lingerie shots.
We’re the first in line for Audrey’s Thick Girl Thirst Trap Masterclass. Baby girl is oozing curve appeal with every single look.
She’s the iconic face of the Universal Standard ad that broke the internet. La’Shaunae has a wild talent for putting together looks with bold patterns, colors, and layers.
File under: How to look carefree, cool, and chic when you’re booked and busy.
Alexa, play “Hair Body Face.” Trans model Ceval combines statement pieces, killer makeup, and flawless bone structure to serve each of her iconic looks.
Raven switches effortlessly from streetwear to ultra-feminine ensembles, and we drool every time.
The epitome of Eurasian cool, Lovisa’s attitude shines through with every look.
A Muslim feminist advocate, Leah keeps her looks modest but FAR from boring. She shines from her hijab down to her toes, and we’re here for it.
British model Vivian went viral after appearing in the ASOS swimwear collection. Her page is perfect for anyone looking to add a little zing to everyday pieces.
Stacey’s makeup game is OUT OF THIS WORLD. She isn’t afraid of bright green shadows, pink and purple highlighters, and blue eyebrows, and every risk pays off.
Imagine walking into the pool and watching your frenemies’ jaws drop as you walk in with this cover-up. Osha’s page oozes finesse all around.
Bronx-bred Latinx goddess Jessica GIVES US LIFE. Her feed is full of travel outfit inspo lately, but she keeps it real about #brokegirlfashion, proving that some of the best looks come together through sheer resilience.
Featured frequently on The Thicc Gram, Kendra’s signature looks are usually pared down and natural. Every now and then, this beauty graces us with full-on vintage glam.
We’re convinced that the color pink was invented so that Jay Miranda could wear it. Follow this babe for endless pink-on-pink ensembles.

11 Plus Size Models To Follow On Instagram Besides The Lovely Tess Holliday Or Ashley Graham
When Tess Holliday signed to Milk Management back in January, I first saw it covered here at Bustle before it quickly spread to news outlets across the globe. The story of a 5’4″ size 22 woman getting a modeling contract was seemingly shocking to people outside of the plus-size community. But to most within the community, Holliday’s signing was inevitable. She completely created her own lane in the industry and eventually the world began to see her as the star that we always knew.
The line between plus-size model and plus-size blogger is so blurred that I see bloggers like GabiFresh constantly clarifying that she defines herself as a blogger and not a model. And though style blogger Nadia Aboulhosn does identify as a model, she still still identifies as a blogger (which is how she started).
But this blurred line makes sense to me. The path to becoming a working plus-size model when you are above a size 12-14 is one that involves organizing your own shoots with photographers, running a blog to gain exposure, and connecting with indie brands who will likely be your first clients. I get almost daily questions about how to become a model, which is still odd to me because I consider myself a designer first and foremost. But my answer to that question is always the same: You create your own opportunities. No one is going to take a chance on you that you wouldn’t take on yourself! This is why I wanted to create this list of unsigned plus-size models, because they have all created amazing portfolios of work without an agency behind them.
1. Essie Golden
Modeled for: Ekineyo, Rue107, Feminine Funk, PopUpPlus, Monif C., Nakimuli, RebDolls and Plus Model Magazine.
There’s no doubt that Essie Golden knows how to hustle — just look at the long list of popular plus-size brands under her belt. It is a shock to me that with that roster, she is still unsigned. Blurring the line between model, blogger and advocate, Essie promotes body positivity with the hashtag #GoldenConfidence.
2. Olivia Campbell
Modeled for: Monif C., Slink Magazine, Skorch Magazine, Plus Model Magazine.
Named a “Powerhouse to Watch” in the February ’15 issue of Skorch Magazine, Olivia Campbell is a force. She can be seen in Monif C.’s latest swim campaign which also landed her as the only unsigned model featured in Plus Model Magazine’s “15 Models We Think Are Perfect For the Next Sports Illustrated.”
Modeled for: Zelie for She and Domino Dollhouse.
Though she doesn’t put her real name on her Instagram, Dandy (as I call her in my mind) is constantly on my feed as one of the main models for indie darling, Zelie for She. She can pose with the best of ’em and her selfies are truly museum-worthy.
4. Megan Kimberling
Modeled for: PHILOSOPHIE Boudoir Magazine.
Megan Kimberling is definitely a model who creates her own opportunities. Though she doesn’t have a long list of publications or clients like some others on this list, her Instagram is full of impressive professional photos that she orchestrated including a babely series of tasteful nudes.
5. Isabel Hendrix
Modeled for: Tunnel Vision, Alexandrea Anissa, and Skorch Magazine.
Isabel Hendrix is a self-identified weirdo babe who has found her niche among more alternative-leaning plus-size brands. Donned with what feels like a different rainbow hair color nearly weekly, she is breathtaking in every shade. She can be found wearing glitter, fur and sequins on her blog or as the face of Tunnel Vision’s “Hottie with a Body” section.
6. Katana Fatale
Modeled for: Chubby Cartwheels, Skorch Magazine, and Volup2.
I first saw Katana Fatale when she became a model for one of my favorite fellow indie brands, Chubby Cartwheels. There’s no denying that between her aqua green hair and piercing eyes, she’s a stunner. In 2015 alone, Katana has been featured on the cover of Skorch Magazine as “the world’s newest IT girl” and the back cover of Volup2 magazine.
7. Sabrina Servance
Modeled for: WMDSF Magazine and Curvysta Magazine.
Sabrina Servance doesn’t blur the line between model and blogger so much as model and reality television star. While Sabrina’s modeling opportunities continue to stack up, she’s probably best known for her role as the voice of reason on the Lifetime’s Big Women Big Love. And Sabrina hasn’t wasted any time since the show wrapped; she has already been featured on two magazine covers in 2015: WMDSF and Curvysta.
Modeled for: Thick Chic Boutique and Glazed LLC.
Peach doesn’t just have curves straight out a Nicki Minaj song but she also has the voice of an angel. As evidenced from her IG name, Peach is an up-and-coming vocalist but she also can be found sporting her signature pout while modeling curve-hugging fashions.
9. Jezra M.
Modeled for: Manik Mag, Amitabon Boutique and Plus Model Magazine.
There’s no doubt that Jezra M. is working to change the face of plus-size modeling. She’s a strong advocate for body positivity and empowerment. Confidence and self love radiate from each and every flawless picture she posts.
10. Rayna Salcido Alvarez
Modeled for: Swak Designs, Unique Vintage, Domino Dollhouse and Pose Magazine.
Rayna Salcido Alvarez may add a #SometimesIModel to her posts on the ‘gram, but she certainly has an impressive roster of vintage and vintage-inspired work including a regular gig with Swak Designs.
11. Sydney Sparkles
Modeled for: Skorch Magazine and Pinup Girl Clothing.
I am of the belief that being true to yourself always wins and Sydney Sparkles has certainly found her niche as a pinup model. With a look that reads very Barbie meets Grease, Sydney can currently be found on the homepage of industry-leader Pinup Girl Clothing.

Instagram Fitness Models: The Body Positive Revolution
Plus size women encounter harsh criticism for their size, lifestyle and overall health. Not only is it annoying, but it can be hurtful. Curvy women are often dismissed as being “lazy”, “unhealthy” or “junk food fanatics”. In a society that equates beauty with thinness and thinness with health, it’s difficult to view ourselves as beautiful.
Thankfully, plus size Instagram fitness models changed the game. Bold, curvy and courageous– plus size and body positive Instagram fitness models shatter standards of beauty and fitness by promoting health at any size. By offering women (and men) of all ages positive plus size representation, these inspirational fitness models instill confidence, self-love and a sense of self-worth in their fans.

Mays’ unapologetic power and sexuality drips fierceness. Her focus on confidence, sexual appeal and fun reflects on her Instagram where she parades her awe-inspiring pole skills. “The Diva’s” dauntless self-love and body positivity teaches followers to own their body and sexuality.

13 Plus Size Fitness Babes On Instagram Who Will Inspire Your Movement Practice — PHOTOS
In a culture obsessed with a very specific (thin) ideal for health and fitness, many plus size athletes are revolutionizing the ways we think about movement and wellness. Although there is so much stigma surrounding fat bodies in fitness-related spaces, more and more plus size fitness practitioners are proving that big bodies can be strong, fast, and flexible.
Despite all this positive change, it can still be challenging for those of us with bigger bodies to sign up for workout classes or gym memberships. For many, it’s frightening to put ourselves out there in communities that have historically been very hostile to fat individuals. Plus, with all the pressure often placed on plus size women to view physical activity purely as a weight loss strategy, it’s no wonder the gym can feel like a dangerous space.
I like to turn to social media for inspiration from all the fat, fabulous fitness babes who are rocking their own movement practices. It’s easy for me to get overwhelmed by the one-dimensional narratives of striving and deprivation that fill mainstream fitness forums, and the plus size fitness movement often has exactly the body positive antidote that I need. If you also need a little inspiration in your own practice, check out these awesome plus size fitness Instagrammers, and prepare to get your sweat on.
Luisa A. is a curvy yogi who posts great poses and honest commentary. I love that she shares pics of herself practicing in a variety of different locations, highlighting how flexible (and portable) a yoga practice can be.
Leah Gilbert is a triathlete, running coach, and fitness instructor with formidable drive and a body positive perspective. Check her out when you need a break from mainstream fitspo.
If you haven’t heard of Jessamyn Stanley yet, allow me to introduce you. A true revolutionary, Stanley serves up serious yoga, body positivity, and style with a deep commitment to inclusion and honesty.
Jessica is a body positive plus size yogi and instructor with a gorgeous smile and bold sense of style. A role model for mixing up your fitness routine, she also posts pics of dance workouts, weight lifting, and other great movement practices.
5. CeCe Olisa
As a health, fitness, and fashion blogger, Cece Olisa does it all (and does it well). Whether you need outfit inspiration or great workout ideas, she’s your girl.
Yogi and instructor Dana Falsetti, aka Nolatrees, has one of my favorite fitness accounts on Instagram. Her photos are gorgeous, her words are gentle and supportive, and her approach to movement is so inspiring and nurturing.
Brittany Danielle makes fitness fun with images that remind us that movement can be a form of play. A true multi-tasker, she also posts awesome pics including her kids in her fitness practice.
This girl is such a source of inspiration to me. Focusing on fitness, fashion, and travel (all with a major sense of humor), her account is a playful, positive breath of fresh air.
Activist and teacher Dianne Bondy not only inspires with her killer yoga moves, but with her value-centered commitment to equity, accessibility, and compassion. When my active routine needs a loving kick-in-the-pants, she’s who I turn to.
There is just so much to love about Amanda’s posts, from hilarious yoga inspo, to adorable Rottweiler fur babies, to killer tattoos. She always reminds me that my body can do amazing things, no matter its size.
Plus size trainer, triathlete, and body positive activist Louise Green is one of my major fitness inspirations. Her uncompromising efforts to break down fitness barriers for large bodies are matched only by her badass athleticism.
Amber is a yoga teacher who strives to make this practice accessible to bodies that have traditionally been excluded from health and fitness environments. Her account is an affirming melange of yoga, travel, nature, and daily life that is not to be missed.
When you need an extra dose of positivity in your day, Amber Smith’s upbeat approach to yoga (and ridiculously cute cupcake pics) will have you looking on the bright side in no time. Check her out for an instant mood lift.
It can be hard to imagine possibilities for ourselves that we can’t see; this is why representation matters so much, and why plus size athletes and fitness advocates who share their practices can be so life-changing. If you need some inspiration, education, or encouragement to take your active routine to the next level, these 13 fitness babes should rock your world.

10. Julie Creffield’s The Fat Girls’ Guide To Running.
This blog is all about running and how it doesn’t matter what size you are, you can still run being plus sized. Julie Creffield signed up for her first marathon, which is why she started the blog. It was so she could document and be accounted for what she was doing.
Over the years more and more plus sized women started to follow her blog saying that they also run. She says on her blog that everyone bangs on people who are overweight, which puts a lot of pressure on people to be a certain size. This means that body confidence is very low, but if we embrace our bodies as they are, to be healthier and happier, then we are able to find the weight we want to be in the process. This is why she is amazing!
