Trish McEvoy 24-Hour Eye Shadow and Liner in Smokey Quartz Review and Swatch

After my makeup session with Nick in April, I did a little shopping. One of the girls who works at Bluemercury told me she really enjoys the Trish McEvoy 24-Hour Eye Shadows so I knew I needed to buy one. I chose Smokey Quartz because I didn’t have any cream eye shadows in a similar color. And because purple.

I am such a sucker for gold packaging. Did you know that? I really am… I want the entire line of these just because they would look so glitzy in a glass cup on my vanity. Don’t even get me started on the new Dramatic Lash Mascara. I might pop in to Bluemercury this weekend sans mascara just to try it out.

Here’s the thing about these 24-hour pencils. The swatch can be super misleading. On the left I drew a line with one coat. On the right I drew a line and ran my finger across it. Aaaannnnd it almost all came off. So draw it on and leave it. The edge of the cream pencil can be buffed out lightly, but I find that placing the color on my lid and buffing a powder eyeshadow into the crease (like I did below) works really well. As far as layering powder on top, the best move is to pat-pat-pat. This formula doesn’t set instantly which allows enough time to work with it, but it can also blend away entirely if you’re not careful.

I see this as a quick swipe-and-go product…can you imagine what a time saver this could be during holiday party season? Perfection. And if you’re currently looking for quick makeup to wear during smoldering summer nights out, try Topaz.

Smokey Quartz is all shine and all glam with total sophistication. Just when you think my makeup looks plain…

Things start to get interesting. I am amazed at the sparkly finish and the fact that Smokey Quartz stayed put the 8 hours I wore it. I did prep my lid with an eyeshadow primer (my rapidly aging lids are no friend to shadows), but I didn’t experience creasing in the 24 Hour Shadow and Liner.

I can’t get enough of this finish! Cream and Rose Quartz are also gorgeous, plus there is a new Smokey Emerald. I love emerald…just sayin’.
