You know that feeling when you’re trying on a new dress, and then you realize…it has pockets! Done. Sold. I’ll take one in every color.
It’s common knowledge that adding pockets to anything automatically makes it better. Obvi, that applies to workout leggings, too.
As if leggings weren’t versatile enough already, the addition of pockets makes them all the more functional. You never have to worry about forgetting your keys, cards, or cash on the leg press machine. And if you need to Uber home from a long-run gone wrong, NBD, because your phone is right there with you.
Of course, your leggings still need to be breathable, comfortable, sweat-wicking, and snug in all the right places. Your high school soccer sweatpants have pockets, but I wouldn’t exactly recommend working out in them.
So whether you’re looking for a versatile black pair or a more look-at-me now option (or something in between)—I’ve got you covered. Give your thighs and derriere the attention they deserve while still having a place to store all your stuff with these options:

You finally start your workout: burpees, box jumps, Superman push-ups, and the list goes on. But there’s one major problem: Your smartphone, keys, and other gear keep bouncing around in your pocket, or worse, crash onto the floor. And while you could leave your tech at home or in a locker, there’s a variety of good reasons you need your phone at the gym, whether it’s to look at the next move in your workout or to listen to music for some extra motivation.
Yes, there are sweatshirts and pants that have a place for your gear, but they don’t always close. And so many pairs of shorts don’t seem to have pockets at all. That means you’re either setting your stuff down on your mat or next to a machine, and risking a cracked screen or losing it. But now there’s more apparel and accessories out there that solve this problem so you can focus on those reps.
Here are 10 pieces that will help you keep your phone, keys, cards, and more right in place. We guarantee some of these will become your go-to gym staples.
Wolaco Fulton .75

Stuff We Love
Get a daily roundup of items that will make your life easier, healthier and more stylish.
“These jeans are exactly what I was looking for,” wrote one Amazon reviewer, who called them lightweight and stretchy. “It’s the perfect balance between leggings and actual jeans. The stretch is perfect. They bounce right back.”
Another reviewer loved the “classy dark denim” shade, which is just one of three options available. The jeggings also come in a classic black and a summery white shade.
“These are nice quality, thick, (with) real back pockets!” wrote another reviewer. “Nice stitching that looks like real jeans, one hundred times better than the ones I had purchased at Walmart where they almost always have that stretched-out look where you can totally tell they’re not jeans.”
Others praised the sizes offered, which range from a small to an XX-large.
“It’s almost impossible to find pants or jeans that fit in all places without tailoring,” wrote one user, who went on to say that the jeans have fit her perfectly. “The legs are plenty long enough to slouch a little bit around my lower calves, the lower part of the leg is just loose enough to look like real jeans rather than tights.”
“These are fantastic!!!!” wrote another buyer. “The length is perfect, and if you want to roll the bottom up a bit with a casual shoe it looks like real jeans, except you won’t want to take them off the first chance you get.”

It’s easy to head outside for a run in the warmth of the spring and summer sunshine or the crisp, energizing air of fall. But when winter’s cold temperatures, biting winds, snow and rain greet you at the door, you might find your motivation waning. And your standard shorts or capris won’t fight off the chill, leaving your muscles cold and you miserable—or hitting the dreadmill.
Enter full-length tights, which protect you hip to ankle. You can find tights to match nearly any conditions: fleece-lined versions are best for bitter cold, while others feature mesh in places that are likely to overheat, such as behind the knee. Most tights will offer some degree of compression as well for performance and recovery benefit. You’ll also find leggings with graphics, bright colors, and reflective touches to keep you safer in low-light conditions, as those reflective bits amplify light from streetlights and headlights.
How We Selected
To be considered, every pair of tights on this list needed to provide ample storage space on the run—at least two pockets, or an equivalent holding capacity. (For example, Oiselle’s O-Mazing tight uses its entire waistband as a wraparound zip compartment.) In addition, each pair here has been thoroughly evaluated and vetted by our team of test editors. After researching the market, surveying user reviews, speaking with product managers, and using our own running experience, we determined that these 14 tights will not only get you through the season, but also stash your stuff securely. Most models have been tested by our staff, and those that haven’t have been carefully chosen based on their value, technical fabrics, comfort, looks, and ability to hold items without excess bounce.
WOLACO Pier 25 Legging
WOLACO Pier 25 Legging $104.00 wolaco.com
- Squat-proof with no fabric sheerness
- Excellent for sweaty indoor and outdoor workouts
- No left-side pocket
Originally an exclusive men’s label, WOLACO (short for Way Of Life Athletic Company) recently expanded into the ladies’ workout realm—and we’re glad it did. The Pier 25 has a comfy, high-waisted silhouette and is made from a brushed polyester-elastane fabric that stretches with zero sheerness. And of course, it’s got pockets—one in the back, and a sweat-proof phone sleeve on the side. (Dudes can get the same pocket perks in the Fulton Full tight.)
Tracksmith Allston Tight
Tracksmith Allston Tights $118.00 tracksmith.com
- Higher waist and more compressive material
- Won’t slip at fast paces
- More expensive
Front, back, side to side—those are the four places you’ll find pockets on this pair from that well-known hare. These tights sit higher on the waist than the brand’s previous models, and also feature a longer inseam and wider waistband. Take note that a remixed material of nylon and elastane gives these tights a slightly more compressive feel.
Janji Deviation Tight $86.00 runjanji.com
- Extremely comfortable waistband
- Made from eco-friendly recycled polyester
- Not warm enough for runs below freezing
The Deviation can carry everything you might need on a long run—including the shirt off your back. While the front waist pouch holds your fuel and keys, the back pocket can be unzipped on both sides to slide through a light jacket or tee. Plus, a blend of recycled polyester and Lycra make it unbeatably smooth and stretchy. (Guys who want a similar pocketed pair can check out the Odyssey.)
Skirt Sports Toasty Tights
Skirt Sports Toasty Tight $43.99 skirtsports.com
- Windproof panels at the thigh and rear
- Two pockets at the hips
- Soft, furry fleece for added warmth
- Limited sizing availability
It’s hard to start a run in freezing weather without bundling up in so many layers you can barely move. Toasty Tights put soft, furry fleece next to your skin so you stay snowsuit-warm during the coldest runs without losing the ability to flex your knees and elbows (which is pretty important in running, as it turns out). Wind-blocking, UV 50+ panels on the front and back of the tights’ top half keep the elements out, without the need to layer shorts overtop to keep your butt from going numb. Two pockets at the thigh are tight enough to hold your phone, snacks, and keys.
Brooks Formation Crop
Lakota Gambill Brooks Formation Crop $85.00 zappos.com
- Moisture-wicking DriLayer fabric
- Sweat-resistant waistband pocket
- Some might dislike the textured fabric
The thick fabric on these compressive tights kept us cozy and warm on the coldest winter runs, thanks to a poly-spandex DriLayer fabric with scratch-proof flatlock seams. The length was another area of praise: We appreciated the long crop that skewed closer to full length. But we had mixed feelings about the wide, mid-rise waistband: Some found it to be perfectly snug, and others felt it could use more stay-put compression—so consider sizing down if you have a comparatively small waist.
Lululemon Zoned In Tight
Lakota Gambill Lululemon Zoned In Tight 27 $148.00 lululemon.com
- Compression with full range of motion
- Bounce-free pocket
- Waistband may ride too high and tight for some
The best part about these tights is the high, compressive waist, which holds your phone or heavier items in a zipper pocket at the waistband without budging mid-run. The fabric is snug and supportive but not so restrictive it feels like a sausage casing. And it’s durable, too—we unintentionally put these tights to the falling-on-gravel test, and the fabric still showed no signs of ripping or wear.
Senita Athletics Luxe Pace Pants
Senita Athletics Luxe Pace Pants senitaathletics.com
- Very high quality at low price
- Fabric is especially soft and comfy
- May be too high-waisted for some runners
When it comes to running gear, Senita is queen of the three P’s—patterns, pockets, and price. From tights to sports bras, the brand decks out all its designs with rockstar prints and stowaway pockets (large enough to hold even an iPhone 11 Pro Max) that only look like they cost a pretty penny. The Luxe Pace is no exception with two deep side compartments and a new Herringbone pattern for only $40.
Outdoor Voices TechSweat 7/8 Leggings
Outdoor Voices TechSweat 7/8 Leggings $85.00 outdoorvoices.com
- Flattering near-compression fit
- Highly breathable
- High waistband may be too tight for some
While not the warmest of tights, the TechSweat 7/8 leggings are the ideal weight for staying cozy without overheating on just-above-freezing runs. Initially, one of our testers feared the lack of a zipper on the back pocket would cause her to leave a trail of keys and snacks along her route, but the pocket held her belongings securely. We liked that the leggings had a snug waistband and compressive fit that stayed put and never had to be readjusted on the fly, without losing the flexibility and breathability of our comfiest casual tights.
Oiselle O-Mazing 3/4 Tights
Oiselle O-Mazing 3/4 Tights $84.00 oiselle.com
- 360-degree waistband pocket
- Highly durable Nyelle fabric
- Nyelle offers less stretch than most other tech fabrics
For the runner who likes to take everything with her, these tights have a new pocket design so you can run hands-free. The entire waistband can fit your keys, cards, phone, Chapstick, gel, and energy bar at the same time.
Lululemon Speed Up Tight
Lululemon Speed Up Tight $79.00 lululemon.com
- Interior waistband drawcord to adjust fit
- Multiple lengths for tall and short runners
- Few reflective details
There’s a lot to love here: A medium-rise waist provides support and added protection against frigid updrafts, two side pockets provide easy access to your stuff, and an additional back zip pocket and front waistband pouch keeps your key and gel secure. Plus, there are a variety of inseams and colors—like Tidal Teal shown here—to choose from.
Nike Epic Lux Running Tight
Nike Epic Lux Tights $70.97 nike.com
- Tight, slightly compressive fit
- Mesh panels on lower legs for cooling
- More expensive
The Epic Lux has breathable coverage all over, with a mesh design that provides ventilation so your legs don’t overheat. A zippered rear pocket is big enough to hold a phone, while side and waistband compartments come in clutch for house keys and energy GUs. These tights are a luxury well worth the splurge to keep you toasty.
Brooks Threshold Tights
Brooks Threshold Tight $95.00 amazon.com
- Excellent heat retention in cold weather
- Ankle zippers for easy on and off
- Taller runners found the length too short
Classic black gives you the look of a hard-driving badass, but these tights will also keep you comfy. The DriLayer fabric wicks moisture to keep your skin dry and fight off the chill, while two pockets lay flat on the sides with a third sweat-resistant pouch in the waistband. Plus, there’s an SPF treatment to protect your skin from sun damage.
New Balance Printed Impact Tights
New Balance Printed Impact Tight $39.99 newbalance.com
- 360-degree reflective details for safety
- Mesh panels behind the knees add breathability
- Some runners found the sizing slightly small
A compression fit and four total drop-in pockets (two at the thigh and two on the waistband) will make this tight your new go-to. NB’s poly-spandex tech fabric will keep you cool and dry as you accumulate miles, and a mesh-lined drawcord waist allows for fit adjustments. The men’s version is non-printed, but still has reflective details for visibility.
Puma HIT Feel It 7/8 Leggings
Puma HIT Feel It 7/8 Leggings $65.00 us.puma.com
- Five pockets for storage on the go
- Bold design
- The V-cut elastic waist makes the waistband slightly loose by the stomach
- The stirrups successfully cinch the legs from slipping or riding up, but cause the entire garment to slip down if tucked underfoot
A comfy, second-skin fit elevates these warm leggings, with five pockets (three on the waistband, two on the sides of the upper legs) for everything you could possibly need on a run within reason. We also liked the flatlock stitching, which kept the tights from scratching or chafing dry skin in cold weather. Less appreciated were the added stirrups, designed to hold the leggings in place. We found they tugged when not tucked out of the way.
